Chernobyl
The accident
On April 26, 1986, Soviet's Union Chernobyl nuclear plant exploded letting out a massive amount of radiation that all Russian citizens would debate for years to come. At exactly 1:21 am. on April 26th 1986 in Chernobyl, a city near the Pripiat River the No. 4 reactor exploded and released thirty to forty times the radiation of the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombing. The exact causes of the explosion are not known, however scientists and researchers, under thorough investigation, have uncovered possible causes to the explosion.
The reason
The main reason why the explosion might have occurred was that the operators of the plant were attempting to conduct an experiment with the emergency cooling system turned off, they made six fatal errors which sealed everyone’s fate. Soviet officials clamed that, if the technicians would have avoided at least one of those mistakes, then the plant could have been saved. The technicians began the test one day before the explosion. They started reducing the reactor's power level so they could run the turbine experiment, however in order for the plant to run at lower power they had to turn off the automatic control system, which powered all emergency limitations that the plant should make in case it goes out of control. Turning of the cooling system was an unnecessary action and though it did not cause the explosion, it made the consequences more fatal. Just then, the operator's receive a call from the local grid controller in Kiev who needed the power and asked the technicians to stop lowering it. Once that was done the reactor was running with out the cooling system, which was a very serious mistake. At 11:10 p.m. the grid controller said he no longer needed the power, and the operators returned to reducing the power. At twenty minutes past midnight the operators forgot to set the regulator properly, it was the second fatal error. At that point the operators would have abandoned the experiment, but they attempted to rescue it, for the next time they would be able to conduct would be in one year only.
The senior authorities that had ordered the test would have been furious and would have found out the regulator problem, so the operators decided to pull out the stops to restore the reactor's power. Their third fatal mistake was the pulling out of control rods. The plant's rule was to have thir...

...en Gorbachev was asked to tell more, the Kremlin shut it's doors and acted same as they did many years ago. It was bad enough that the Kremlin covered up the deaths, and put the people in imminent danger only for saving their face, but to others outside the Soviet Union the cover-up was of no surprise.
Disasters ranging from plane crashes to fires were never admitted to anyone. In 1957 a nuclear-waste pant exploded and spewed contaminants over hundreds of square miles in the southern Ural Mountains. More then hundreds of people died, and for years afterward the area was a radioactive wasteland. Only in the 1970s did a Russian scientist in exile, Zhores Medvedev, publish the story. Even then, the Kremlin did not acknowledge that the explosion ever happened. Many Russians accept the Soviet government's actions to cover-up any bad things.

Every since the industrial revolution, society has moved to jobs, factories, manufacturing goods and products, and larger cities. This process called industrialization is when an economy modifies its way of living from an agriculture based living to the production of merchandise in factories. The manual labor that is required for farm work is replaced with mass production on assembly lines. Andrew Blackwell visits this idea of industrialization in Visit Sunny Chernobyl but to a higher extent. Blackwell states “today that society is an industrial one, resource hungry and plant-spanning, growing so inefficiently large, we believe that it is disrupting its own host… It’s not just about living sustainably. It’s about being able to live with ourselves,”
Humans feel a need to transcend boundaries even if the consequences are numerous. A prime example of this is found in Chapter 1 of Visit Sunny Chernobyl. The engineers exceed the safety limits of the reactors to understand what will happen, and the results of disregarding the limits were catastrophic. Another excellent example is in Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh and Enkidu overreach the periphery of the gods, and the result of their actions is the death of Enkidu. Consequences always follow pushing boundaries, but humans never stop exceeding perimeters.
Imagine working with radioactive materials in a secret camp, and the government not telling you that this material is harmful to your body. In the book Plutopia: Nuclear Families, Atomic Cities, and the Great Soviet and American Plutonium Disasters by Kate Brown, she takes her readers on a journey to expose what happened in the first two cities that started producing plutonium. Brown is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She has won a handful of prizes, such as the American Historical Association’s George Louis Beer Prize for the Best Book in International European History, and was also a 2009 Guggenheim Fellow. Brown wrote this book by looking through hundreds of archives and interviews with people, the evidence she found brought light to how this important history of the Cold War left a nuclear imprint on the world today.

On March 28, 1979, at 4:00 A.M. Eastern time, the worst accident in commercial nuclear power history happened. It was a nice day in Dauphin county, Pennsylvania, and then it all happened. This accident was rated a 5 on a scale that only goes to 7. The scale is called International Nuclear Event Scale. It all started inside the secondary-system where the pilot-operated relief valve was stuck open releasing large amounts of nuclear reactor coolant. This horrific accident caused many scientists to worry about nuclear energy, as well as concerning scientists that it could be a danger to the world, so this caused many safety concerns among activists and the general public which resulted in in new regulations for the nuclear industry, and has been cited as a contributor to the decline of a new reactor construction program that was already underway in the 1970s. Even though this sounds like it should have caused many people to develop cancerous cells, epidemiological studies analyzing the rate of cancer in and around the area since the accident, determined there was a small statistically non-significant increase in the rate and thus no causal connection linking the accident with these cancers has been substantiated. After
Russia failed, maybe because of their pride, which led to their no deals with terrorists policy. Barriers were set by Russians, their negotiations were poor, lacked strategy, obviously provocations were not useful. Because of their unilateral thinking they could not find or tried to find a peaceful solution. Maybe they did not negotiate to prevent other terrorism acts, and by refusing coming to terms they showed the terrorists that raiding a central theather and taking hostages was not enough to solve problems. The need of security and feeling of distrust brought up a bigger emotion, resentment. Unfortunately after an incident like this especially Putin does not seem to appercieve.
On April 26, 1986, a test was booked at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant to test a system for keeping the reactors legitimately cooled in the case of a force network
Chernobyl wouldn’t have been the traumatic event that it was if the Soviets were technologically advanced and obviously, if they trained their personnel to manage radioactive materials.
Chernobyl was the greatest nuclear disaster of the 20th century. On April 26th, 1986, one of four nuclear reactors located in the Soviet Union melted down and contaminated a vast area of Eastern Europe. The meltdown, a result of human error, lapsed safety precautions, and lack of a containment vessel, was barely contained by dropping sand and releasing huge amounts of deadly radioactive isotopes into the atmosphere. The resulting contamination killed or injured hundreds of thousands of people and devastated the environment. The affects of this accident are still being felt today and will be felt for generations to come.
...r more than a hundred thousand years. (Lindsay, 2002) The Chernobyl Accident in 1986 which has not taken the right safety measurement by the power plants operator caused the nuclear power plant to release radiation. There were more than 30 people found dead in this accident impute to radiation exposure. (WNA, 2012; U.S.NRC, 2011)
"The tops are leaping off the reactor lip" this was the first warning which the control room received before the destructive explosion in Chernobyl that occurred at 1:23 AM local time. Twenty three minute after the warning in the morning of 26 April 1989, the reactor exploded. The Chernobyl nuclear accident was an unexpected catastrophe that can happen in the history of producing nuclear power. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) defined a nuclear accident as an accident that includes any activities that lead to the release of radioactive material and causes significant consequences. The location of Chernobyl city is in the north of Ukraine near the Belarus border. That nuclear accident happened when in reactor number 4 in the Chernobyl nuclear power in the Soviet Union exploded. Because of that extreme explosion, the radioactive emissions dispensed into the environment and caused immediate deaths, illnesses and many health problems. World Health Association (2013) reports that during the accident, one person died immediately and another one died in the hospital due to the harmful injuries he received. Health World Organization (WHO) (2006) also reports that a few weeks after the disaster 28 people died because of the Acute Radiation Sickness(ARS). The Chernobyl nuclear accident is one of the major disasters in the history of nuclear power which had many serious effects on humans and the environment.
The other kids’ reactions to him really gave his school year a rough start. August’s mom was trying to encourage August to make friends with Jack, Charlotte and Julian but August did not want to meet anyone because of his past experience meeting others. His mom said, “August, I thought it would be a good idea for you to meet some students who'll be in your homeroom this year. I figure they could take you around the school a bit, show you the lay of the land, so to speak."August said. "I don't want to meet anyone." “August must have been afraid to meet anyone because of his experience with others being horrified just looking at his face. In the end everyone accepts August as a normal kid. Their reaction to him made him more confident with the way he looks. Finally, people chose to look at his inside not his outside. August showed courage during the whole book. The book showed that he has accepted himself for who he is. Before August went to Beecher Prep he was homeschooled by his mom and August felt safe and cared for like any other human. After August went to Beecher Prep he realized that skipping school does not solve his problems. It actually made it worse by causing others to see him as a baby. Eventually August grew strong enough not skip school every time someone picked on his deformed
One of the most significant environmentally damaging instances in history was the Chernobyl incident. In 1986, the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant in Ukraine exploded. It became one of the most significant disasters in the engineering community. There are different factors that contributed to the disaster. The personnel that were tasked with operating the plant were unqualified. The plant’s design was a complex one. The RBMK reactor was Soviet design, and the staff had not be acquainted with this particular design. As the operators performed tests on the reactor, they disabled the automatic shutdown mechanism. After the test, the attempt to shut down the reactor was unsuccessful as it was unstable. This is the immediate cause of the Chernobyl Accident. It later became the most significant nuclear disaster in the history of the
The first and most brave thing Auggie has ever gone through is having surgeries. In all of Auggie’s life, he has had 27 surgeries to correct facial anomalies; this definitely requires much bravery! Another act of bravery was when he decided to go to his new public school, Beecher Prep. This decision was very brave, since Auggie would risk being made fun of for his deformed face. In the past he was always protected by his mother, who homeschooled him, and no one could make fun of him. Going to a public school was definitely a brave step for Auggie. In addition, the middle school Auggie goes to planned to go to camp. Deciding to go on this camping trip was a remarkable decision for Auggie, since he had never slept anywhere without his parents. This was another brave choice for Auggie. Also, when he was at the camp, he and Jack left the group watching a movie when both boys needed to pee and the line for the toilets was too long. Because the lines were so long, they went into the woods to do their business. On their way back, they bumped into another group of people they did not know. As soon as they saw Auggie, they screamed and were calling him names. Then, one of the boys named Eddie shone the flashlight he was holding in Auggie’s face. After that, Jack tried to push the hand holding the flashlight away but the boy just pushed him to the ground. Auggie then said, “We’re smaller than you guys…” Then suddenly,
On April26, 1986, the nuclear power plant was exploded in Chernobyl, Ukraine. At 1:23 AM, while everyone were sleeping, Reactor #4 exploded, and 40 hours later, all the city residence were forcefully moved to other cities, and they never return to their home. The Chernobyl disaster is ranked the worst nuclear accident. The Chernobyl nuclear power plant was ran by the Soviet Union central nuclear energy corporation.
