Over the years, cheating on tests and exams have become more common. And by definition, cheating is to gain an advantage over a situation by unfavorable or dishonorable methods. As shown in a study from Josephson Institute Center for Youth Ethics, 59% of high school students admitted cheating on a test during the last year. 34% self-reported doing it more than two times (“Plagiarism: Facts & Stats”). In other words, the school board could be more focused on producing academically, high grades achievers over the honest achievers. Although, various schools will punish the students the moment they're caught cheating, especially on an important exam. In our present world, it was said that "Grades, rather than education, have become the major focus of many students" ("Academic Cheating Fact Sheet"). Which can mean the higher the letter grade a student has, the higher his or her chance of getting into a prestigious college or university. Another reason for a student to cheat is because the real world doesn't necessarily follow specific rules to gain a masterpiece. Take making jazz music as an example. "Jazz is all about rule-breaking, tossing out the conventional structure of music and replacing it with something closer to improvisational anarchy" (Kluger). Jazz is a fun and energetic music, the random but flowing rhythm and sound of the song are the points of the music. If people do follow the rules to make music, it won't be jazz. This also links to students who cheat to appear cooler in front of their friends. In most cases of testing, "the pressure placed on students to score well on a single test, which plays a big role in determining the academic future for so many high-schoolers, may be encouraging them to cheat" (Khadaroo). They are expected to ace their tests and gain a steady job in the future, but if they fail a class, the chances of a pretty future lower. It can also affect their friendships with those who only play with the smart kids. Some kids need to exceed their current level of learning to impress society, all because their "parents have deep pockets and high expectations" (Khadaroo). For those parents who are wealthier than the average citizen, the kids may inherit the wealth later on in their life, so good academic record at least gives them the credibility of being the right person to be entrusted with the wealth. Therefore, kids and students cheat in academic to gain a perfect record and to minimize the pressure they are placed
