The book I chose to read and review is Chasing My Cure by Dr. David Fajgenbaum. This memoir captures the story of Dr. Fajgenbaum and his journey through battling a mysterious and deadly disease. This story truly drew me in and I was astonished by all that this one man had endured and overcame. I listened to the audio version of the book, which was narrated by Dr. Fajgenbaum himself. I believe this allowed me to connect with his story even better as I heard everything from the one who lived it. As the story progressed, I found myself growing in admiration for Dr. Fajgenbaum as he showed such resilience and determination, even when things looked bleak. I found this to be such a profound response to such a tragic event. If I were in Dr. Fajgenbaum's shoes, I don’t believe I would have had the willpower or mental capacity to think of founding a group to comfort others. This group grew to have multiple chapters at universities across the country. I really admired how Dr. Fajgenbaum used his traumatic experience to help others and fuel his desire to become an oncologist, stating that he “wanted revenge” on cancer (Fajgenbaum, 2019, 52:33-52:52). As one struggle came to a close, another one followed shortly after as David became unexplainably sick. This mysterious illness progressed to the point of near death. Of course, I had expected something like this to occur as the title of this book is Chasing My Cure. However, I did not expect that David would battle this disease relentlessly for years and be on the verge of death five separate times. This was very shocking to me and I was filled with utter respect for Dr. Fajgenbaum for being so determined to uncover the puzzling disease and fighting so hard to keep his
