Charlie Gordon a 37 year old man has a mental disability and chooses to have A.I. surgery, the surgery though will not be permanent. Some of the effects of the surgery have some negative impacts on Charlie’s life.The story Flowers for Algernon” is about Charlie Gordon, the 37 year old man who happens to have a mental disability. But Charlie is different then most tall that Charlie wants to do with his life his become smart. Charlie later agrees to have a surgery to triple his I.Q of 68 making him basically a genius, but the surgery doesn’t last long,the surgery ends up wearing off leaving Charlie in a worse state than he was before the surgery. Charlie having the A.I. surgery was a bad idea. Charlie after he has A.I. surgery starts having strong negative feelings, as he started getting smarter people became more and more afraid of him, after A.I. Charlie says in progress report 12 on June 15 that “it’s hard to throw off thoughts of suicide.” That clearly states that charlie starts having strong negative feelings. In a result showing these feelings since A.I. Charlie would have been better off without A.I. At least instead of being smart he would have been happy and not having these negative feelings all the time. Another way that Charlie having the A.I. surgery was a bad idea is that people started becoming afraid of him. After A.I. was in effect with Charlie, and he started to get smarter people became more and more afraid of him making his life harder to handle, because he felt as if he had nobody that cared about him for example Charlie said “Now I’m more alone than ever before….” that clearly shows that Charlie was better of not having A.I. surgery. Another way charlie was better off not having A.I. surgery was that after A.I. Charlie started pushing people
