I feel like the voice that stood out to me the most had to be Charley’s Dad. I think it was super brave of him to discuss the struggles that his son was dealing with and even the stuff he had to go through with the different staff members that worked at Charley’s school that were not doing their part or not even doing anything to help benefit Charley’s needs. It is definitely sad to say, that there are those educators out there that do not treat their students that have a disability with the respect and help them with their needs that they deserve. Charley is the main character in the book Soldier's Heart, He is going into the war at Fort Snelling. Charley was very young especially for war, he enlisted to the union at the age of fifteen. The war needed more soldiers, so Charley lied about his age and enlisted. Once Charley got in the war he completely changed his mind.
How does this relate to how you see yourself as a teacher? I appreciated how the teacher was spontaneous in reading to the children. For example, in the story Otis makes a noise putt puff putted chuff and she asked the students to mimic the noise that Otis made. I think that by being spontaneous and being sensitive to the environment and atmosphere learning will be fun and more memorable for the children.
In this paper, a scenario of the Brice family from the book “The Family Crucible” will be described in detail. The Family Development Theory and the Family System Theory will be analyzed to understand the Brice’s family scenario. Also, the two theories will be compared to discover which theory is more productive when analyzing this family’s scenario. After reviewing the Sanchez Family case study, I have chosen to review Emilia Sanchez with Erikson’s Theory of Psychosocial development, Operant Conditioning, and Social Learning Theory. As a social worker it is often complex to determine which theory to employ in practice, each client will warrant for an in-debt assessment of the presenting problem and goals the client desires to achieve. This paper will explore one family intervention model that can be applied to the Taylor family. The two theories analyzed are Cognitive Behavioral Family Theory, (CBFT) and Structural Family Theory (SFT); both theories can be utilized when assisting individuals or families. The social worker will focus on the Cognitive Behavioral Family Therapy model when applying treatment and interventions to the Taylor family case.
Due to experience with technological advancements, we have learned that there can be several drawbacks to something that may seem like a way to make our daily lives easier. This is especially true in the case of Charlie, as the operation did not give him the exact results he was expecting. Although he did get everything he wanted out of the procedure, Charlie's intelligence was not permanent like everyone had hoped. Instead, he lost all the knowledge he had gained which returned him back to square one. However, we know for certain that much thought was put into deciding whether Charlie should undergo the operation and the pros and cons of the procedure.
First, with all the money that is being put into public education, it needs to be distributed evenly. If public schools had similar resources and capabilities, students wouldn’t need to travel far to get a good education and this would solve many problems. An example of this from the film is when a Mother is speaking about her child’s experience at an open discussion. She talks about how her student loves music and music is taught at a one public school and not the other. Money is being distributed unequally and kids are being taken of opportunities that they could have a passion for. Another aspect that I agree with is that for things to change for the better in the future, everyone needs to get involved. Kids in these unfortunate situations can only do so much to speak up for themselves but it will only get them so far. Most of the students aren’t even able to vote yet so it is important the country as a whole is aware of these problems and learn about how to help. I think it was a great idea for Ms. Myers to invite John Gray to speak in front of the school and tackle the issue of racism and settle down people’s prejudice thoughts. His strategy to handle the issue was an intelligent one, because instead of him talking the whole time he allowed the students to share their thoughts and ideas by expressing the seriousness of being silent. In so many words he basically said that if you stay silent nothing will change. But what really got the students going was when Mr. gray asked the boy who stated that you can’t get away with calling me prejudice if he was Jewish and since he is a good Christian and Jews believe in a god besides Jesus that they should go back to Israel. That was a good idea because negative people usually act in negativity when they see someone else acting in the same negative way. One student bought up that woman can never hold positions of authority and power because are more emotional than men (in which is very false). I remember when I was working at this supermarket and we had this manager who was a man and almost every day something went wrong, but when they finally fired him and hired a woman instead the store improved a lot, and should I add she was nice
A gust of air audibly exited my lungs as I opened the creaky door of my mother’s beat up four door car. Charley didn’t have the same spring in his step that was present in his youth, but he did his best to run over and hop in. I wish he didn’t try so hard. I liked the role that I played, especially after getting the information about my motives. Mr. Plum was mostly interested in getting the Individual Education Plan (IEP) completed to meet legal requirements. He was not truly concerned about Robert although he was acted as if he was. I was able to see them happy and unfortunately sad as well. It was very valuable to me for the future to have that experience working with children with disabilities such as autism and attention disorders as i feel a lot of teachers font have the experience and therefore don't know how to deal with the children which isn't fair to that child.
The stimulations were really eye opening. I was able to see through the eyes of a child with a learning disability in different areas. I always understood that children who have learning disabilities learned differently, but I didn’t imagine how extreme the difference could be. The problems were hard for me and became frustrating. I now know firsthand how frustrating it can be for students who have learning disabilities in different areas. It’s amazing what extra time or shorter questions can do to help increase understanding. I realize that some things that come naturally to me may be extremely difficult for someone who learns differently. As a new teacher, I will make sure to teach children strategies and develop assignments that increase student understanding.
As a child, life was great for me. I spent my days being a hyperactive boy, running around and causing general chaos on my two sisters, Kelly and Libby. The world I lived in was a stress free world, I had not had many difficult experiences growing up. Life was beautiful for me, until a tragedy struck my family.
