On June 2, 1985, Officer Daniel Wright, of the San Francisco Police Department, was dispatched to a lumberyard where a shoplifting had just occurred. Upon arrival, a store employee informed the officer that an Asian man had concealed a bench vice in his jacket and was seen placing it in the trunk of a 1980 Honda Prelude., and when the employee attempted to question the man he quickly fled on foot. Officer Wright looked into the vehicle and discovered a bag that contained a silenced handgun. At this point a bearded man approached the officer with a sales receipt claiming that he had paid for the vice his friend had taken. Officer Wright questioned the bearded man after discovering that he had someone else's drivers' license and the vehicle plate had been switched. Wright recovered the silenced handgun from the vehicle after placing the bearded man under arrest.
At the department the bearded man was further interrogated by Officer Wright. Approximately 30 minutes into the interrogation the bearded man asked for a pen and paper along with a glass of water. The man then identified himself as Leonard Lake and that he was a fugitive wanted by the FBI. He also identified the Asian man to be Charlie Chitat Ng. Lake then stated, "I didn't think a lousy bench vise would bring me to this." With out saying another word, Lake placed the letter he had written to his wife in his pocket then quickly removed and ingested something from under a label on his shirt. The substance sent Lake into convulsions which resulted in Lake's death a few days later. The substance was later identified as having been two capsules of cyanide. Landscape painting was extremely important during the middle of the nineteenth century. One of the leading practitioners of landscape painters in America was Thomas Cole. He visited many places seeking the “natural” world to which he might utilize his direct observations to convey the untainted nature by man to his audience. His works resolved to find goodness in American land and to help Americans take pride in their unique geological features created by God. Thomas Cole inspired many with his brilliant works by offering satisfaction to those seeking the “truth” (realism) through the works of others.

An interpretation of Charles Simic's poem 'Cabbage' is as a parody of Andrew Marvell's 'To My Coy Mistress' and John Donne's 'The Flea.' These are two well-known seventeenth-century carpe diem love poems (The Explicator). I choose this poem because it is one of his most famous. Some of Simic's best known works challenge the dividing line between ordinary and extraordinary. He gives substance and even life to inanimate objects to such ordinary objects like a knife or spoon ( CAO ). Or in this case a head of cabbage. I wanted to know what he was trying to say in this poem and what the cabbage symbolized. To understand the poem it is important to first know the poet.
The school's undercover narcotics officer, Randy, was killed in the faculty parking lot. A car pulled up, and a black tinted window rolled down. As we cruised around the community, he pointed out countless minor traffic violations, both moving and non-moving, but opted not to make any stops. At this point he stated his main concern was to spot any impaired drivers and get them off the road. Eventually, as we came up behind an older civic (the Civic had a broken brake light) on Centreville Road, the officer stated that he detected the scent of marijuana coming from the Civic. The driver of the Civic noticed Crutchman’s police cruiser behind him and dropped his speed to 5 mph under the posted limit. Officer Crutchman began tailing the vehicle which immediately turned off on the next available road. We proceeded to follow the Civic for a couple of miles. I could tell that Officer Crutchman wanted to make the stop, and I inquired why he hadn’t done so already on account of the Civic’s faulty brake light. He responded that he is cautious about making such stops because he does not want a “new law named after him” on account of the controversy surrounding pretextual stops. It is possible that this careful attitude has developed as a result of the rising public outcry against police and
Charles Bukowski was a hero to some while a degenerate to others. He found beauty in the ugliest aspects of life. He spoke of violence and drunkenness, and did it with pride. In “My Madness” Bukowski has created an opinion on life that’s raw, vulgar, and to the point. He had a non-sympathetic attitude in this passage and a non-sympathetic attitude in his life. Bukowski employs no purpose to create a purpose in his literature that inspires the reader with his loud and outspoken style. He tells of his struggles in life and how he has used them for his advantage in writing. His style and tone are where he shines and he uses them to his advantage in everyway to attract the reader and keep them interested.
