The Odyssey was written by Homer and is a Greek Epic Poem. It tells the story of how Odysseus returned from Troy after the Trojan War and his adventures and experiences of the journey. In the book, Odysseus is portrayed as a hero by his actions and how he copes with the challenging situations of his trip. Throughout the nearly 10 years traveling, Odysseus showed responsibility, justice, and wisdom in each one of his trials. Responsibility, an important trait of a hero is demonstrated throughout the book constantly for a good reason. Odysseus shows his responsibility well near the start of his adventures at the Island of the Lotus Eaters. On the island, some of Odysseus's men eat the lotus's and begin to loose hope, wanting nothing but to stay there forever. Odysseus also shows responsibility by quickly accessing the situation and taking charge to lead, and even force, the men off of the island and back onto his ship.
