Character Analysis: The Parsley Garden

At a young age many people make mistakes , some learn from them and some don´t.

In this short story “ The Parsley Garden ¨ William Saroyan suggests that by doing something wrong will give you consequences in the long run. It is important that you work hard for what you want , make good choice and be successful. Making good choices will make your life brighter, successful

and have higher limits if you work hard for what you want.

In the short story “ The Parsley Garden “ Al showed you if you work hard for what you want you will have a better outcome.After, Al feels ashamed by getting caught stealing he returns back to the store and lets them know that is not how he is. Al Condraj shows this by thinking of his mistake and ends up going back to the store and asking the old man if he can work. “ We didn’t talk, but at the end of the day he took me to Mr. Clemmer’s office and he told Mr. Clemmer that I’d worked hard all day ought to be paid at least a dollar.” Since he was wanting to accept the job that they were offering him he did. But they offered to pay him a dollar but he turned down the money. This justifies that he was not really working for the money, he was working to prove to them that he is a

hard worker. Because Al worked hard for his prize at the end of the day he received his award which was his hammer.

Making good choices will help you be successful in your life and prevent you from getting into trouble. One of the good choices he made was once he got caught and they let him go from the store as he was walking he decided to go back and do it again , BUT he made the better choice and decided to just go home. When he got home he made the right choice to let his mom know what he had done wrong. ‘He even told her what he had thought of doing after he had been turned loose , ¨ to go back and steal the hammer again“ This demonstrate that he did the right choice to let his mother know what he did. He points out to his mother that he was thinking of going back to go steal again , he thinks since they want to say he was a theft he was going to go back and be one. But he made the right choice and didn´t! Finally, this justifies that if you make good choices you will have so much off your mind and that you dónt need to stress about & be up all night thinking about the mistake you have made.

To conclude the short story “ The Parsley Garden “ the moral of this story was basically in order to get what you want and have a good outcome instead of a bad one you have to either work hard for it or do something maybe in return.

As in this story Al wanted to build a bench but did not have the tools for them , so he then decided to go to the store and steal a hammer. Eventually he had got caught. After , he went through the whole process of getting caught then eventually being able to get out the store with no trouble , he realized he messed up and wanted to pay for it. He wanted the hammer so bad and other tools that he went back to the store and asked if he can work for it. He then started working and eventually got his Hammer. “ Work Hard For What You
