Margaret Thatcher's Quote as Represented in 'Antigone'

Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of Great Britain, once said, “In politics, if you want anything said, ask a man; if you want anything done, ask a woman.” This quote is very well represented in the play Antigone. Being strong is defined as able to withstand great force or pressure. The protagonist, Antigone, presents to the audience that she is the strongest character. She sees the importance of justice and liberty before seeing the brick wall of the laws and suggested gestures of the kingdom. To have to go against the whole community to do a deed that could get her killed is very strong. Antigone is going against the pressure and does what she believes is right. Not to mention, once she is caught she is not scared of death. She knew

what she was getting out of her actions and the consequences to these ordeals. After she is caught, she does not try to find what she did. Antigone is proud that she buried her brother, and doesn’t deny the crime. On page 829, Creon states, “An enemy is an enemy, even dead.” Antigone then states, “It is my nature to join in love, not hate.” This quote represents that she respects people who are kind and people who have done wrong in their lives. After this conversation, Ismene comes into the scene and is ordered guilty of the burial as well. The burial was a one woman deal, and Ismene was not involved, so Antigone begs Creon to only kill her not her sister. Going against the law is one thing, but sticking up for your sister and praying he only kills you is very strong.
