Every day, society misconceives identities. Through the eyes of Christopher Reeve, '' a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles''. Society tends to connect heroes with stereotypical words such as adventurous, daring, courageous and show upmost bravery to the ones they care and show love for. A hero is assigned to work in the face of danger, combat adversity through feats of bravery or strength often sacrificing their own personal concerns for the greater good. A hero is typically looked upon as being masculine, brave and intelligent. Yet a woman, also referred to as a heroine is heroically admired for her courage, outstanding achievements, noble qualities and putting

Heroes stand up for the weak and innocent and clash with wickedness. From beginning to end Katniss’s persona is identified as the lead female born into the poor country of panem. During the story Collins portrayed Katniss’s character as a traditional male archetype yet also accepting female archetypal characteristics. Katniss takes on the role of hunter, provider, and protector that are typically designed for the male gender. A hunter goes out to capture or kill food to make sure the family is fed each and every day. A provider is an individual that ensures that the family's needs are met, like food, water, shelter, and overall health. The protector watches over the family to keep them out of harm's way: She is driven by the will to survive and through her hunting learns to provide for her family on her own. After the death of her father, Katniss embodies the features of protector for her family. She risks her life going into the woods hunting for food to put on the table to protect her family for survival; as said by Katniss "Inside the woods [animals] roam freely and there are added concerns like venomous snakes, rabid animals, and no real paths to follow. But there's also food if you know how to find it”.(Collins pg 6). Providing for a family, hunting and finding the will power to survive on so little definitely shows how much respect and dignity katniss
