Cal is a character who has to deal with other peoples' problems while having to deal with his own problems. Cal has to deal with his father losing his job and his father doesn't support Cal when it comes to sports. Wanting his dad to go to some of his games, Cal discusses with his mom about his dad coming to the games. "Do you think you and Dad might come?" "No... not tonight, you know your is going through a lot right now." I zipped my gym bag shut. "Yeah, I know, but I wish he'd see me play sometime" (West 16). Helping out Cal, Peggy brings up Cal's last football game at the dinner table, trying to gain her fathers' attention on the subject. "I didn't say anything about the game at dinner that night! like I'd be begging my dad to come, I mean a lot of kids

Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring is a nonfictional based movie portraying the infamous activities of a group of California based friends who burglarize celebrities houses looking for fashionable accessories. Mrs. Coppola’s main message throughout the movie examines the power and values their friend group possesses. Examining the scene where Rebecca convinces Marc to rob Evan’s house helps us to break down the movie’s main and underlying messages. Looking at this robbery through Crary’s lens helps the reader to see how her underlying message trumps her more obvious main message. This scene appears to test the values and power of two criminals, but it’s main underlying message addresses the overconsuming lifestyle that Rebecca and Marc possess.
Everybody hates Chris is a television series created by Chris Rock and Ali LeRoy that focuses on the life of young Chris rock in 1980’s Bedford Stuyvesant (Bed-Stuy), New York. Bed-Stuy is a neighborhood that’s directly affected by the then rising problem of crack cocaine. Chris lives with his father who has two jobs, his mother, younger brother and sister. Although Chris lives in bed stuy his mother sends him to Jr. High School across town in a poor Italian neighborhood called Brooklyn beach. She believes Chris will have a better education with “White kids”. Chris’s good friendship with Greg, one of the least popular students in the school, makes Chris more of a target of bullies and other white students. I chose this show because it focuses in the struggles of a teen facing racial problems head on and searching for solution to defeat dominant stereotypes placed on him and his family.
I received a free copy of The Girl from Everywhere by … from Hot Key Books in exchange for an honest review, this has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about the book.

In a time where the general population is overweight and obsessed with technology, there isn’t much time for the outside world. A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson is about two corpulent men on a journey to walk the Appalachian Trail. At first their tale seems unlikely because of their weight and the fact that they have never hiked a day in their lives. However, it quickly turns into an inspiring story that we, as people, should use to spark our own adventure in the great unknown. Bryson writes A Walk in the Woods to encourage people to live a little and experience the great outdoors, to meet interesting people in it, and to encounter the enthralling wildlife that resides on the Appalachian Trail.
It starts with spotlights. They shine down on a face; weathered, yet so full of life. He has witnessed the worst of this world and it has within him stoked a fire. Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier two twelve year old girls were held in court for stabbing another twelve year old girl 19 times. What could have been the motive to stab a twelve year old friend who was so innocent? The supposed motive behind the stabbing was a character called ‘Slenderman’. The two were supposedly influenced by this character and wanted to “please” the character. Morgan and Anissa apparently had this planned since February. In court, Morgan and Anissa were tried as adults instead of juveniles despite them being only twelve. Many people believe Morgan and Anissa should have been tried as juveniles because of their lack of knowledge on what is right or wrong and because of their age. Morgan and Anissa should be tried as adults in court for stabbing a twelve year

The Crucible was the turning point in literature and in history. It showed how people were convicted with only a minute amount of evidence. The only thing that would have caused a person to be convicted was if people went into hysterics. However, for someone to be accused of using witchcraft, someone else has to say he or she had seen them practicing it or they were the only person who could see it. The trials caused some of the characters to learn new attributes about themselves. Elizabeth Proctor is more reserved. John Proctor, on the other hand, is more prideful; whereas, Reverend Hale is more confident. These three characters go through their own personal journeys and uncover the person within them beneath the surface, which in turn broadcasts their true identity to the audience.
