Character Analysis: A Long Walk To Water

“ Or should they begin the long hard walk, and hope they reached hep in time?” A book “ A Long Walk To Water “ is when Salva and the lost boys go through difficult times in South Sudan. Nya had to walk miles a day for water. It happened around 1985-2009. There was a war in Sudan, and they were facing challenges. Love, unity, and perseverance were the most important values Nya and Salva needed to survive.

First, Nya and Salva both needed love to survive. One example on page 45 is “ Nya’s mother nodded that she understood, but Nya could see the worry in her eyes. “ This example shows that Nya needed love to survive because Nya’s mother loves Nya, and everyone needs to feel loved at some point to feel safe, and think they belong in this world. Another example on page 41 is “ Salva, I have a gun. I will shoot any lion that comes near you. “ This example shows that Salva needed love to survive because from a the suffering he’s been going through, he feels like someone loves him and feels safe knowing that his uncle is by his side. To survive, Nya and Salva both needed love.

Next, Nya and Salva both needed unity to survive.

On example on page 57 is “ Nya joined the crowd of children following them. “ This detail shows that Nya needed love to survive because all of the kids were gathering together to get through their long journey of suffering, and they all stuck by each others side and both helped each others. Then, Another example on page 60 is “ There will be many other people in the camp. You will become friends with some of them, you will make a kind of family there. “ This example shows that Salva needed unity to survive because he has people waiting for him that want him in their family, and will always be by his side and be there for him as a whole group because he is going to be apart of their group as a new member in the family. Nya and Salva both needed unity to

survive.

Finally, Nya and Salva both needed perseverance to survive. One example on page 8 is “ She looked at the bottom of her foot. There is was, a big thorn that had broken off right in the middle of her heel. “ This detail shows perseverance because Nya persevered through difficult times, and also persevered through pain. She stayed strong for how young she was to go through getting a big thorn stuck in her foot. Another example on page 85 is “ It was hard to keep hope when there was so little to feed it. “ This example shows perseverance because Salva still had hope, even though he was on his own working hard giving his all to succeed. Salva did not give up. To survive, Nya and Sava both needed perseverance to survive.

In conclusion, love, unity, and perseverance were three important values Nya and Salva needed to survive. First, love is important is our world today because love makes us think that someone is there for us, and someone who cares, which keeps us going in life because we feel safe and happy. Next, unity is also important in our world today because everyone should help someone if needed, and should be included and not left out in a group when you can include them and make their day better. Finally, perseverance is important for surviving in our world because if you believe in yourself, and persevere through difficult times by not giving up. Love, unity, and perseverance were important for Nya, Salva, and in our world today.
