PROBLEM/ SOLUTION TEXT
The department of Cesar, located in the northeast of the country, is one of the most important place in Colombia. In first place, the region has five strategic ecosystems; these are La Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, that has all thermal floors and was declared as a zone of a natural reserve by the UNESCO, La Serrania de Perijá,, El complejo Cenagoso de Zapatosa, El Valle del Rio Cesar and El Valle del Rio Magdalena. Additionally, El Cesar is the most productive region of Carbon (Gobernación del Cesar); for example, in 2008 the department produced the 45,82% of total of Carbon. Nevertheless, the department deals with an environmental crisis due to the strong relation between the carbon and the economy of the region and the country. Now it is important to highlight that a 49% of the exportations in Colombia are hydrocarbons (Orduz, 2011).
However, the mining of carbon in El Cesar has been done improperly since 1989. Approximately, “14% of the ecosystems of the department have been affected by the large mining industry and 71 % of the mining applications that rest in Ingeominas would affect another 85 percent of the ecosystems” (Pardo,

For instance, taking in to account the high radiation of the zone (approximately 5 KWh/m2), the photovoltaic energy projects are viable. In general, the photovoltaic panel, which is the main component of the system, convert the solar energy in electric energy. According to a study of the University “Universidad Cátolica de Colombia”, this technology began to be used in the aerospace industry. Now, after years of investigation, the photovoltaic energy is able to meet the energy demand of countries like France and Germany (Ospino & Isaza, 2016).With respect to the Cesar, there is a project ,called “El Paso”, that will have a generation of 176 gigawatt per hour (López Suárez,
Caetlin Asher Spanish 325 10 March 2017 Lack of Separation Between the Church and State The separation between state and Church has been a controversial issue for decades. In the movie “Mar Adentro”, this separation between Church and state, or lack thereof, is brought to attention through the court battle between the state and Ramón Sampedro. Ramón Sampedro was a sailor who became a quadriplegic during an accident diving into the ocean water causing a permanent spinal cord injury leaving him paralyzed. Over twenty years of being paralyzed from the neck down, Ramón decides to receive legal permission to end his life through assisted suicide, specifically Euthanasia.
I have read two articles, in which they both talk about the same topic. They both talk about dogs and leadership. “Cesar's Way” is an article written by Cesar Millan, he is a well-known dog training expert, in his article he mainly talks about the proper training for dogs and their background. The second article that I read was “Pack of Lies” and it’s written by Mark Derr from The New York Times. Mark Derr has written two books about dogs. Mark Derr’s article mainly criticises the way that Cesar Millan trains his dogs. He believes that Caesar Millan's methods of training dogs can overwhelm them. I have read both articles and I personally believe that Cesar’s article ,“Cesar’s Way”, is more informing and persuasive about the topic. I believe this because Cesar clearly explains how packs work, how to identify a leader and a follower, and how anybody can lead a dog.
Art has been the reflection, interpretation and representation of artists' beliefs and morals eternally. Various artists stand for different matters that quite possibly affect their lives, or might be of an interest to them. Norval Morrisseau is an artist that I was intrigued by his portrayal and the techniques used in his paintings. In this paper, we are going to look at the implementation of Morrisseau's painting style used to expose his philosophies of different aspects in his life.
This policy memo addresses the development and expansion of the cattle ranching industry in Brazil, which has contributed to the mass deforestation of the Brazilian Amazon in the last 40 years. It exposes the regional and global consequences to deforestation and provides strategies for the Brazilian government to sustainably manage cattle ranching industries while protecting the future of the Amazon. The rainforest ecosystem is an immense reserve of natural recourses that is far more valuable than the beef produced on Brazilian cattle ranches. Not only does the rainforest create habitat for up to 65% of the world’s biodiversity, but when harvested sustainably, it provides humans with an abundance of spices, foods, oils, medicines and vital research areas (NEWMAN).
This rainforest is also a great ‘carbon sink’. It has many photosynthesis plants and this allows the control of carbon dioxide (CO2). The plants take in the CO2 from the atmosphere and return oxygen (O2). b) Logging has impacted this ecosystem. There are trees that are hundreds of years old and their timber is being pushed to be sold for high prices.
The broad range of topographical elevations has encouraged agricultural expansion whose diverse production of food constitutes an important part of the Colombian economy. The agricultural sector contributed 14% of GDP, excluding coffee, with a production worth almost 11 billion US. In the hot lowlands of the Caribbean heartland, the inter-montages valleys, and the savannas of Orinoquia, there are immense plantations of bananas, sugar cane, rice, cotton, soybeans and sorghum, and large cattle farms that produce meat and dairy products. In “The Fish” by Elizabeth Bishop, the narrator attempts to understand the relationship between humans and nature and finds herself concluding that they are intertwined due to humans’ underlying need to take away from nature, whether through the act of poetic imagination or through the exploitation and contamination of nature. Bishop’s view of nature changes from one where it is an unknown, mysterious, and fearful presence that is antagonistic, to one that characterizes nature as being resilient when faced against harm and often victimized by people. Mary Oliver’s poem also titled “The Fish” offers a response to Bishop’s idea that people are harming nature, by providing another reason as to why people are harming nature, which is due to how people are unable to view nature as something that exists and goes beyond the purpose of serving human needs and offers a different interpretation of the relationship between man and nature. Oliver believes that nature serves as subsidence for humans, both physically and spiritually. Unlike Bishop who finds peace through understanding her role in nature’s plight and acceptance at the merging between the natural and human worlds, Oliver finds that through the literal act of consuming nature can she obtain a form of empowerment that allows her to become one with nature.

The theme death has always played a crucial role in literature. Death surrounds us and our everyday life, something that we must adapt and accept. Whether it's on television or newspaper, you'll probably hear about the death of an individual or even a group. Most people have their own ideas and attitude towards it, but many consider this to be a tragic event due to many reasons. For those who suffered greatly from despair, living their life miserably and hopelessly, it could actually be a relief to them. Death affects not only you, but also those around you, while some people may stay unaffected depending on how they perceive it.
William Golding , the author of The Lord of the flies believes that evil resides in all human beings. The Lord of the Flies begins softly but nearing the end everything turns upside down. But would the world be the same way it is today without societal structure and rules? Only through societal structure, rules and order will humans be thought morality/principal and proper behaviour. The Lord of the Flies demonstrates what society would look like/resort to without any rules or guidance for man to follow. Others might believe this is true because of natural evil and actions done by individuals, a comparison through savagery and civilization, and certain truths in the world that are evil.
Preview: Today I will discuss the potential that solar power has to become this country’s main supply of energy and the latest research that can make solar power more efficient and cost effective. I will also present the environmental benefits that come with using solar power over other and more harmful forms of energy.
The destruction of this forest releases 340 million tons of carbon per year according to the World Wildlife Foundation, or WWF, which in turn causes climate changes everywhere around the world. Undiscovered species can hold the key to curing a plethora of diseases, but if those species become extinct, those keys are lost forever. If nothing is done to prevent this, the world’s treasure trove of bio-diversity will cease to exist, creating irreversible damage to not only the South American people, but also the rest of the world. Conversion of the tropical forest into cropland and pasture began a long time ago in Ecuador, before its secession from Spain. Their major crop was cocoa, which was grown along the waterways to be exported as their main source of trade.
Everyone is a part of a community. Most people are a part of multiple communities. A community is a group of people that have a commonality. Sometimes it is based on where you live, hobbies, goals, etc. I believe that communities are created unconsciously and are connected to someone’s identity, especially when a person is considered a part of multiple communities. Sometimes, a person may connect very well with their community. Sometimes, a person may feel very distant from their community. In the movie, “English Vinglish”, the main character, Sashi, shows examples on how communities are created through commonalities, and the acculturation theory. Sashi was a part of multiple communities. A few communities included her, her Daughter’s school,
