Throughout history, influential individuals have shown that a single person can make a difference to an entire community. Individuals that show when dedicated to a cause, they will rise up with honor, leadership, and courage to make a difference. Cesar Chavez is a prime example of an individual being able to use these qualities to lead a community. Chavez stood as a leader for his people; he rose above his self-concerns to meet the needs of the people. Cesar Chavez showed us that, “The highest form of freedom carries with it the greatest measure of discipline.” He lived by this standard and fought freedom. He helped out the agricultural workers in problems they faced in the work force, mainly due to the fact that he knew the exact struggles they were going through. He even started a Labor Movement, he fought for the rights of the immigrant workers so they would be able to get a maintainable living salary. Mexican-Americans often didn’t take a part in the government, which lead to Chavez urging them to vote. The leadership and example that Chavez was eventually lead to other Mexican-Americans to speak up. His encouragement led to many to realize that staying in silence wouldn’t solve any problems, actions needed to start taking place. This is what started protest and movements for rights, something that Chavez hoped for. Cesar Estrada Chavez was born near Yuma, Arizona. Chavez got his name from his grandfather, who escaped from slavery on a Mexican ranch and arrived in Arizona during the 1880s. A brief background about Cesar Estrada Chavez; he began school at age seven, he was a child of six as well. The bibliography of Chavez discussed how Chavez, coming from Mexico found school difficult due to the fact he came from speaking only Spanish.
