Cesar Chavez's Qualities To Lead A Community

Throughout history, influential individuals have shown that a single person can make a difference to an entire community. Individuals that show when dedicated to a cause, they will rise up with honor, leadership, and courage to make a difference. Cesar Chavez is a prime example of an individual being able to use these qualities to lead a community. Chavez stood as a leader for his people; he rose above his self-concerns to meet the needs of the people. Cesar Chavez showed us that, “The highest form of freedom carries with it the greatest measure of discipline.” He lived by this standard and fought freedom. Chavez is known for popularizing the slogan "Sí, se puede. This slogan was even adopted by Barak Obama in his campaign for presidency. This

shows how highly respected Chavez was by not only his community but as a global figure.
In the life of Cesar Chavez, he was well known as a labor leader.

He helped out the agricultural workers in problems they faced in the work force, mainly due to the fact that he knew the exact struggles they were going through. He even started a Labor Movement, he fought for the rights of the immigrant workers so they would be able to get a maintainable living salary. Mexican-Americans often didn’t take a part in the government, which lead to Chavez urging them to vote. The leadership and example that Chavez was eventually lead to other Mexican-Americans to speak up. His encouragement led to many to realize that staying in silence wouldn’t solve any problems, actions needed to start taking place. This is what started protest and movements for rights, something that Chavez hoped for.
Cesar Estrada Chavez was born near Yuma, Arizona. Chavez got his name from his grandfather, who escaped from slavery on a Mexican ranch and arrived in Arizona during the 1880s. A brief background about Cesar Estrada Chavez; he began school at age seven, he was a child of six as well. The bibliography of Chavez discussed how Chavez, coming from Mexico found school difficult due to the fact he came from speaking only Spanish. Chavez at a young age already began life as a migrant worker; he started so young because during the depression his farther lost

land.
One of the most influential people Chavez had in his lifetime was his mother. Her notion was that violence and selfishness were not the way to live and she passed down these beliefs to her children. Chavez took her word of advice and applied it to his and brought down the same notion to others. Chavez moved to California with his family primarily to look for work. In California, the Chavez family became part of the migrant community; they traveled around to many farms collecting harvest. Chavez who was on the constant move changed school frequently; the movie described how he often faced discrimination in the schools he attended. Chavez only went up to eighth grade and after he decided to work full-time. He also later made a commitment to serve in the Navy this he did for many years.
Ultimately after seeing this film about Cesar Estrada Chavez I seen much of the hardship and struggles he went through. This is why I believe so many Mexicans idolize him; because he was relatable to them and showed people anyone can make a difference. Not only Mexican but also other races idolized him as well because they respected what he stood for. He was able to be the voice for many people that were afraid to stand up for themselves.
