Annoying is the blasting sounds of music or the loud conversations people have when they are on their cell phones. It seems as though most of us cannot function without them, since we use them in our everyday routine with friends, family, social media and business. Cell phones have become a growing trend amongst young school children and adolescents, so it is no surprise that they want the freedom to use them in public schools. However, cell phones have no place in the classroom. The usage of cell phones would only create distractions, interfere with the privacy of others, and are unnecessary due to the fact that schools are fully equipped with adequate learning devices. To begin with, cell phones are problematic in classrooms because they become distractions to both the students using the phone and to those that are trying to learn. In either case, they will both miss out on the opportunity to learn. According to M. Beth Humble-Thaden, “Cell phones ringing during a class time present unwanted distractions and, for some students, sending or receiving text messages can lead to cheating” (10). The recordings, which were taken in secret, showed teachers in the midst of different emotions. Using a cell phone can help people to focus a lot better through texting and listening to music. For example, most people focus by drowning out distractions through music while they work. It helps them to understand what they’re learning at a faster rate. Texting helps because it can help the students to better understand the lesson they are learning through their friends at a quieter rate.

If I ask her to put away her cell phone, she would complain “I can’t live without my cell phone.” Cell phone should be prevented from using excessively because if cell phone is used in an improper way, it would ultimately becomes a distraction device for students. Therefore, students would be lack in interpersonal relationship, distracted during class, which can lead to academic failure, and distracted while driving, which can lead to serious accident and death. When students reply to texts or check social media, what’s going on in class gets ignored and students begin to fall behind. Additionally, the noise of someone’s phone going off not only distracts that person, but also his/her peers. The chaos caused by a phone may not only distract the owner of the phone, but the entire class. On the same note, the aftermath of being distracted by cell phones is clearly visible in the students’ overall performance.
Cell phones are small and portable yet provide so much to its user with being able to look up anything to calling your parents in case of an emergency or if you need to give them a heads up on something. Just the thought of a a message or text on your phone screen can make you have the urge to look at it or take your time and reply back even if you were still in class causing damage and harm to the teaching environment. This issue of letting students have cellphones in class is a very big argument on both sides leading to many schools starting to give up and trying out new methods with cell phones. One after another schools are falling to the hands of cellphones. Although cell phones may give parents access to contact their child, schools should still ban cell phones in school because they cause major distractions to students that are using them, ruin the teaching environments the teachers has set up, and it may even distract other students. This becomes a wider issue when students begin to pull out cell phones in the middle of class. Cue the distractions. Speaking from a high school student’s perspective, I can say that as much as I love having my phone with me at all times, it is definitely a distraction during class. There is always a number of times, during a lesson or a presentation, where I find my attention drifting off of the lecture, and towards my cell phone. As an individual who usually has a strong attention span, I can speak on behalf of my peers when I say that allowing personal technology would only be a distraction to students.
I remember a classmate when I was in high school because he never talked to anybody. He spent most of his time on his cell phone or using his tablet, and he did not do well in school. He was different than my other classmates and I believe that he never felt comfortable in the classroom. Everybody knows that cell phones have changed peoples’ life dramatically.
