The progression of cell phones has developed at a tremendous speed. On the account of new technology providing expediency, it is also harming people in the course of action. To exemplify, the development of cell phones has had pessimistic effects on people; especially teens. Cell phones have become an obligation to everyday life for not only the youth but for adults as well; however, adults tend to use their cell phones in a more industrious way than the youth. For instance, the youth have turned the cell phone into more of a social device more than an industrial implement. Cell phones impact the youth’s priorities, communications skills and level of crime. Having access to cell phones in school is giving teens a reason to lose focus in school. Cell phones impact school focus by lack of sleep, lack of attention and lack of proper grammar. Many teens are constrained to sleep with their cell phones in close proximity in order to counter calls or text received throughout the night. Teens tend to feel obligated toward remaining accessible at whichever point in time; consequently, when a teen’s sleep is incoherent, it disrupts the capacity to …show more content…
Cell phones have affected the way people type, communicate, their lack of focus, theft, texting while driving, etc; however, with every problem there is a solution. Parents are the key to any problems with cell phone issue. Parents should set rules with teens with their cell phones such as, when they can use it, the purpose, and the consequences if the rules are abused. In contrast, for parents who are worried about their teen’s use of their cell phones, should identify what has caused the concern, how it is impacting the teens life, and what would you like for the teen to do. Overall, it is a very exhilarating to be a part of the technology world but teens need to know the limitations of having a cell
ANALYSIS The author’s purpose is to persuade the reader to learn how to control the use of smartphones and involve more in face-to-face conversation rather than chat online “It is not giving up our phones but about using them with greater intention” (Turker). She notices that many people do not really pay attention when it comes to face-to-face conversation because they get used to playing the phones. In the article, she gives out many details and examples to support her position, her sources are reliable. She points out a lot of facts from her own experiences and other’s interviews to prove the problems that are caused by texting that people do not even realize. She then argues how the smartphone is a psychological device that changes what we do and who we are.
Our lives tend to revolve around our cell phones and sometimes put us in danger. “These young people live in a state of waiting for connection. And they are willing to take risks, to put themselves on the line.”1 The young people are the generation who never knew what it was like without having a cell phone; therefore it is hard for them to disconnect- they don’t know how to. If this generation hears their phone buzz or hear a notification, they feel as if
A common theme is taking place where as people feel that cell phones are starting to take over others daily lives. Many people go through their day to day lives not even relizing how often they are on their cell phones. In the article, “Our Cell Phones, Ourselves” the author Christine Rosen talks about how cell phones are starting to become a necessity in every way towards peoples lives. Rosen talks about both the good and bad effects of cell phones and how they have changed the way in which we work our daily life. Although I think cell phones can be necissary, the constant need for use could be the beginning of how cell phones will take over our every day lives.
In the article entitled, “Our Cell Phones Ourselves”, Christine Rosen describes how cell phones have changed the way we communicate. Rosen tells the readers the main purpose for cell phone use in the past, versus present day. Her purpose is to make society aware of how cell phones have influenced our lives in order to inspire change as to how we view our cell phones. Rosen directs her writing to everyone in the present day by describing the negative results of cell phone use and how it impacts our lives and those around us. Without a doubt, cell phones are going to be a part of our world, but it is the responsibility of every cell phone owner to exercise self control and understand that a cell phone is nothing more than a device.
Today’s society accepted phones so fast and easily, that most of the things that can harm us, are actually some of our social norms that we don’t even realize we are doing. Cell phones can have effects on the way people think and act, their interactions with people in society, and the amount information people retain from the direct result of multi-tasking. Cell phones are a very important asset to people, and good resources of information, but they can have negative effects on people such as depression, anxiety, and addiction to the use of the cell phone. Distractions from cell phone use have also been linked to many motor vehicle accidents as well. Cell phones were created to make our lives better, and more efficient, but do they harm us more than help
Cell phones have crept into an owner’s possession at all times. “The mobile phone has become a part of us: our best friend who will save all our secrets, pleasures and sorrows” ("Exploring"). Teens have developed the need to know the latest news on social media every minute of every day; they do not want to miss any little detail. Since the beginning of smart phones, high school students have felt the need to have their media open on their smart phone in front of them so they do not feel empty. Once someone has become attached or addicted to something, it is hard to change their habits. Cell phones have changed people socially, especially with the availability to social media with electronics.
Children under the age of thirteen and using electronic devices is not a good idea due to their innocence and how easily they can be manipulated. The way irritation is connected to the addictive quality is that it slowly develops a mental illness. Common illnesses include depression, anxiety and frequent anger issues. All of these facts tie together to show how children can be overpowered by cell phones at an inappropriate age. Someone may argue that children with phones would in fact be safer from such things because of the special feature of easy communication. A child could easily call or text an adult or parent they know when they need to. Such as situations when a they need to be picked up from an unsafe area, therefore getting rid of any stress or anxiety levels. Although communication is very important for a young child’s safety, they should not have to constantly depend on their cell phones to relieve them of stress or anxiety. They should feel free to talk with a group of friends or an adult they trust and feel comfortable with. This is one way to quickly form an addictive, yet unhealthy
Docksai, Rick. Teens and cell phones: cell phones can be noisy and distracting. But they can also be an aid to learning." The Futurist. Jan.-Feb.
In conclusion, this essay has tried to argue that cell phones are valuable tools in schools. Many of us see cell phone pessimistically but really haven’t looked at them optimistically. We all know that "with every good, comes a bad, and with responsibilities, come consequences". By all means allowing cell phones in schools is a great idea, and students should start to learn the positive features of that new device. Overall, this essay has attempted to show that allowing cell phones in schools is not a bad idea.
There has always been controversy as to teens not being able to concentrate and focus because of texting and cell phone use. Visiting any U.S. high school can show the lack of concentration and focus of students caused by using their phones. Benefits of having a cell phone can have the advantage of reporting crimes as they happen, handling an emergency, and always being connected with friends and family; however there are drawbacks such as reducing concentration, having poor grades, and causing an accident while the driver is using his phone. They (cell phones) allow people to stay connected to friends and family, for example, and provide a way to report crimes and emergencies.” (How Does Cell Phone Use Impact Teenagers 9).
The question of young people and cell phone use and texting causing young people to be less able to concentrate and focus has always been a difficult one to answer. Technology gives teenagers so much but includes many drawbacks. Cell phone use and texting has it’s advantages such as teachers embracing tech, uses for educational purposes, and easy to use;however, some drawbacks are as socializing, time away from homework, and bad communication skills.
The use of smartphones in class affects students’ focus and academic performance in school and their relationship with their teachers. “Staying up all hours to play online games, letting homework slide and avoiding friendships in the real world are some symptoms to watch for in intense gamers” (Tamsyn). This shows that students who are obsessed with playing games on their smartphones (and other technologies) can be easily distracted from doing their homework and finishing their projects. When students also play too many video games, it can result to a lack of sleep which makes them come to school late and get moody. Teachers notice that some of their students’ marks are dropping due to students not handing in their assignments on time and not paying attention during classes. In...
Mobile phones have various negative effects on a teenager's life and their life style. It can affect the student's in many ways. It can lead to health related problems, academic distractions, exam malpractice and change in behavior of teenagers. Today’s cell phone is the front line technology at our fingertips. Keeping this in mind the use of cell phones have become an affair when it comes to allowing teens to use them in educational environments, such as schools. One part of society supports the use of cell phones while the other part of society disapproves the use of cell phones. I personally believe that cell phones should not only be allowed in school, but cell phones should be mandatory just like a textbook. Cell phones do not only allow students to stay united with friends and family, but cell phones are also a magnificent learning system, and they boost the liable use of technology.
I remember a classmate when I was in high school because he never talked to anybody. He spent most of his time on his cell phone or using his tablet, and he did not do well in school. He was different than my other classmates and I believe that he never felt comfortable in the classroom. Everybody knows that cell phones have changed peoples’ life dramatically. Cell phones are one of the most revolutionary advances in the last decades because they make things simpler and easier but cell phones have a strong impact on teenagers. Teenagers are in one of the most important phase in their lives because they are exploring the world and developing their capacities. I believe that cell phones have more negative than positives effects on teenagers for many reasons.
