Steven Spielberg once said, “Technology can be our best friend, yet it can also be the biggest party pooper of our lives. It interrupts our own story, interrupts our ability to have a thought or a daydream, and to imagine something wonderful.” Spielberg’s quote directly applies to today’s generation as the advancements of technology continue to impact society. More specifically, as producers continue to advance and improve cell phones, these devices become more and more popular and high in demand. While avid cell phone users rely heavily on their devices, many of these users may not be aware of the possibilities too much cell phone use can cause. The increasing popularity and demand for the cell phone, has resulted in several negative outcomes such as death, less face-to-face interaction, and unnecessary expenses. As the cell phone popularity and demand grow, so does the death rate at which cell phone involved deaths occur. It has become very hard for today’s generation to simply put down the phone. So much so that many users cannot do without their phone while driving. The National Safety Council in Washington, DC states “at least twenty-eight percent of all traffic crashes each year involve drivers using cell phones” ("NSC”). These types of reckless drivers carelessly choose to attempt multi-tasking rather than submit their full attention to the roadways, as required by the law. When using a cell phone while driving the drivers’ attention is divided. The personal life that seemingly exists through one’s cell phone often times becomes more important than the safety of others. While an irresponsible driver is distracted by their phone, he or she may not recognize themselves drifting into another lane, or the child walking across ... ... middle of paper ... ...penses. As the popularity and demand continue to increase society becomes more and more dependent and obsessed with cellular devices. While the average person spends an excessive amount of time consumed in their phones, much time, money, and relationships are lost. If cell phone addicts learned to put down the phone, he or she may be able to enjoy the true beauty of life through their own eyes rather than a small screen in their hands.
