Introduction My position as a post-modern feminist and equal rights activist has compelled me to chose a topic that combines my interest of celebrity culture with my passion for social issues and movements. Issues such as racism and sexist seem to be the most prevalent issues of celebrity discussion with stars like Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj commonly promoting their importance. My question, “how and why do celebrities impact society’s opinions on social issues such as racism, sexism and classism” reflects on why we feel the need to over-identify with celebrities and why they are so important in our lives. Her stance on feminism certainly doesn’t go unrecognised as she is very outspoken about her views on gender inequality. She demonstrated this by adapting author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “We Should All Be Feminists” TEDx speech into her hit song, ***Flawless. She also wrote an essay titled, “Gender Equality Is A Myth” that targeted unequal pay between the genders.

She uses her combined social media following of 113 million people, she is able to reach a substantial amount of people with her opinions. When she posts on social media sites about these issues she is attracting attention to them and that really is only positive with situations like these because the world should know how prevalent racism still is today.
