Chris Brown and Rihanna, Alec Baldwin and his daughter, and Justin Bieber have been vilified in the news at one time or another. Their inappropriate behavior is tweeted and You-tubed for everyone to view and pass judgment on. Controversies in the general public's lives are not broadcast and their character is not judged by people worldwide. Celebrities' decisions are not private and known to only people within their community. They are broadcast and debated by television shows and newspapers. The public’s perception can make or break a celebrity's career. Celebrities are expected to display behavior that is irreproachable, but they are ordinary people with normal problems and struggle with human frailties like everyone else.

Now imagine that same scenario being the lead story on the evening news. Just to make it worst, imagine Barbara Walters and Whoopi Goldberg sitting around a table with the huge picture of your child on display while they castigate your parenting skills or family values. This is another instance of the invasion of privacy of celebrities because famous people are often judged by the actions of their family members, especially their children. This can cause problems for the celebrity where it would not cause problems for the general population. Instead of a family matter, celebrities’ extended family’s problems are displayed as a television drama. Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol’s pregnancy was constantly harped on during her vice presidential campaign and is touted as one of the reasons for a reduction in the conservative support for her candidacy. Teenagers are getting pregnant all the time, but in most cases it does not change their parent’s annual company job review. If decisions made by family members are exactly that, why then, does it become the celebrities’ problem? Simply because they are famous, they are accountable for everyone in their family’s actions. We treat public figures as characters that we should be able to research the background on and/or write letters to the editor to criticize or evaluate their behavior. People should be appreciated for being good at their job, but live their lives in private. Their jobs should not depend on the behavior of others nor should the person be held accountable for every mistake they have ever made. All of these things are happening to celebrities today and it should not be allowed. If they want to star in a reality television show, then they sign a contract to that life. Running Microsoft Corporation does not entitle the world to watch you take out the garbage, push your son on a swing in the park, or find out what you did in Cancun on your spring break in 1986. Do you know the name of the last person who was picked up for drunk driving at your local police station and are you making a petition to keep them out of the country or is that right reserved for Justin
