Celebrities and The Criminal Trial System
Celebrities and the Trial System
Celebrities. We all want to live like they do; we all want to experience what they do; to be accepted in a way that is purely envious. More importantly, we want all the extras that celebrities receive in life. One of those extras seems to be the beating the justice system. Beating is a strong word; I prefer to use the word whitewashing. Why is it that when a celebrity goes on trial, the public seems to be transfixed on the outcome? Does the public even know why or how the accused celebrity manages to be not guilty after not guilty after not guilty? Lets be honest, it is jury of our peers that decides our fate in the legal system. Just because you are a celebrity does not mean that you have a hall pass to a not guilty plea. Now take a step back from all I have said; the extras that I had mentioned are the advantage that celebrities have over the average citizen. Money, the media, and even the jurors and the prosecution play roles that aid the defendant. The fact is that when celebrities are on trial for serious crimes, the advantages that they have are prevalent, and our usually overshadowed by the media coverage that comes with it.
"If you want to know what God thinks of money, just look at the people he gave it to." (Parker, Dorothy 1893-1976). For all God fearing people in this country that work themselves to the bone every day; I believe this quote is something they live by. Let's forget about God and look at the real issue of money and society, more importantly celebrities and monetary advantages in the court system. There is a strong point to that statement. The rich and famous have the ability to obtain the best lawyers in the world, hire the best private investigators, and use the media to their advantage. (No Author, 2005). Law firms are actually hiring public relation firms to help them. (Maier, T 2004). I haven't even mentioned the other fact that celebrities can post bail on any crime short of murder. Robert Blake, the actor accused of murdering his wife, was able to post bail, hire private investigators to go after witnesses, and hire not one lawyer; but fire him and hire another.
The Casey Anthony trial has been arguably the most controversial case since the trial of O.J. Simpson and has been speculated over ever since the verdict had been given in July of 2011. It was decided by a jury of her peers that Anthony was not guilty of murder, for the death of her daughter Caylee. Many believe that Anthony should have been found guilty however, very little Americans actually comprehend the justice system.
room and play then, he took piano lessons when he was seven. By the age of
During the time that O.J was on trial for the murders of Nicole and Ronald, everyone who was following the hearing had a deep sense of fear and pity. They were fearing that the man they once adored and aspired to be like was actually capable of committing such an inconspicuous crime. Also, due to the accusations of the murder, the viewers were also feeling in the sense of pity, in both sadness and disappointment. The acts that O.J Simpson was accused of caused the audience to feel disappointed in his actions, as well as sadness towards his family. The accusations developed about O.J left people who didn’t even personally know him in tears. People were so sad about his downfall. The accusation led to the fact that O.J left his family with no mother and technically no father, as he’d be spending time in prison. Furthermore, since he was found not guilty, there was a large part of the audience that felt a sense of release and emotion, and some felt bad that he was ever accused of this, but rather he just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Due to the fact that O.J and Nicole were separated for a couple years before she died, Nicole had made new friendships, and there was no proof that someone new that she met could have caused this crime and tried to frame Simpson, due to his past accused abuse
Mostly the people who supported R. Kelly information was selected for the news media and the information from the nonsupporters were not selected by the news media. In this case the information was bias to supporting R. Kelly even though he had film a sex tape urinating on a fourteen year old girl. It was ironic that the people would still support R. Kelly after such an incident, but his case was viewed on a racial manner rather than having sex with an underage teenager. The news media was able to view the lawyer sly ways of dealing with the jury to help R. Kelly win his case.
Eventually, Benny earned a name for himself at a young age and began to secure professional gigs with a variety of bands When his father brought home a second-hand Victrola that included several records, Benny listened to, and was fascinated by a clarinet solo by Ted...
A crime being committed is the first event to initiate our criminal justice system. On June 12th 1994 a double murder was reported at the residence of Nicole Brown Simpson the ex-wife of the then beloved Orenthal James (OJ) Simpson. It was discovered that Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman had been brutally murdered and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) began their investigation, this being the second step in our criminal justice system.
Lennon was well known for being a part of the iconic band The Beatles, which formed in 1960. Being cofounder of the band and their songwriter/guitarist gained Lennon a lot of popularity with people. “John Lennon was the most iconic Beatle” (“John Lennon Bio”), the article which this quote was taken from speaks highly of John Lennon and how he lived to be much loved and appreciated in the music world. Though Lennon had a rocky childhood his mother still loved him and he chose to stay close to her, and at a young age Lennon was given his first guitar by her, but his dear mother was careful to include that though the guitar was nice, Lennon could not make a living off of it, which is exactly what he seemed to do. Lennon teamed up with Paul McCartney to create the Beatles, in 1957 at the impressive age of 17 and even at such an early point in his life people already looked up to him, a majority of those who looked up to Lennon would be his band members. In an article by beatlesbible.com they quote Lennon’s band member Paul McCartney when he says “We all looked up to John. He was older and he was very much the leader - he was the quickest wit and the smartest and all that kind of thing.” this shows us all that friend and fan alike adored
This sort of behavior is constant over time. Celebrities today are posted and paraded all over TV and magazines, no matter what they do. Justin Beiber was caught drunk driving, stealing property, and many more crimes.... ... middle of paper ... ...
Today most young people think that if a person is rich and famous, they can get away with anything. They see rappers get charged with felonies and then they see that the charges get dropped. They’ve heard of celebrities running over children while drunk and get away with it without doing any time. However, not all rappers have run-ins with the law, but the ones that do are very well known. Tupac Shakur (RIP), for example, had many run-ins with the law. He was arrested for aggravated assault, and charged with shooting two off duty police officers in Atlanta in 1993, but the charges were later dropped (bomp). He was also accused of beating a limousine driver in Los Angeles and found guilty of threatening a fellow rapper with a baseball bat in Michigan (bomp).
Elton John’s early life definitely influenced his musical life that he later excelled in. He
This mock trial script provided very detailed information on how a court functions and the duties of the participants. For instance, the role of a judge is to give the rules to the jury on how they should debate on whether the accused is presumed innocent or guilty. The judge also represents the law since s/he is the one who enforces it in a court trial. Another thing that the mock trial script offers is how both the crown and defence counsel functions. The crown counsel represents the government and is responsible for conducting legal proceedings against the accused. The defence counsel however, defends the accused from the crown counsel by proving to the court that the accused is innocent. Lastly, the mock trial also showed how the jury is
Musical prodigies are most frequently related to genre, however by definition, such prodigies have natural skills and are not restricted to one musical style. Musical prodigies typically have many of the subsequent characteristics: exceptional talent, associate degreed, or interest in music at an early age. The one component that really defines a musical prodigy is the ability to make a performance dynamic with the audience that's charming and, at times, overwhelming. Elvis Presley's musical talent clearly encompassed all of those characteristics and more. Elvis Presley was a genius. “He did not express himself the way the middle classes do, which is with word play and having the ability to clarify his actions and reactions. He acted on gut instinct and expressed himself by the method he controlled the mike, by the way he moved his hips, by the way that he sings down with microphone” (Elvis Life Story. N.p., n.d).
An only child, Elton’s parents were divorced and was raised by his mother. Sheila, his mother, brought home records that introduced him to rock music. Elton taught himself how to play the piano at the age of four. At the

My Papa always had a big personality, the kind that made a person drop whatever they were doing just to listen to him sing, laugh, tell a story- even if it was just a simple tale of washing the car- that was what made him the best performer. My Papa was always humming a melody, tapping a beat, bobbing his head to song that no one else could hear. Music was everything to him, for every memory he had there was a soundtrack, for every emotion he had felt over the years Papa could think of a song to perfectly relate to it- one that he and his family had lovingly dubbed as His Song was My Way by Elvis Presley. I had always looked up to the broad-shouldered man because of what he taught me to me about music- ranging from how to count the beats and find the chords, to just listening to notes with an open heart and seeing where it takes you. This man was filled with life in the best way, and everyone wanted to be around him because of it.
