I listened intently as Cecelia speak about her day, and then took a sip of her tea. She seemed like she was thinking about something else, but then she chimed in again. "How did you know I was nervous? Is it true you could control emotions? I had heard that you could feel and manipulate emotions, but we never talked much before, so I did not know if it was true." I gave her another smile as I replied, “Yes, it is true, that is my ability. I can’t really use it all the time though, it’s pretty exhausting for me,” I observed Cecelia some more, it looked like she was starting to feel sick. “Are you sure you’re feeling alright?” I started to feel sick as well since I was using my ability, and I could feel a sharp headache coming on. It wasn’t
In “Eleven”, written by Sandra Cisneros, Cisneros uses literary techniques such as diction and imagery to characterize Rachel’s character during her transition from age ten to age 11. When Sophia and Princess Calizaire were four and seven years old, they were taken into foster care after their mother left them stranded at a motel. However, this simple abandonment led to a series of problems. Not only were they tossed from house to house as if they were trash, but they also suffered abuse from their foster families. On several occasions, the two sisters were beaten with belts, hangars, and heels, as well as having their heads submerged in sinks until they were near death; they ate dog food, slept outside, and were raped daily. Luckily, the two girls were able to survive, so that they may share their stories in adulthood. The women now live to warn others of the dangers of foster care, as they did through their interview with
The first chapter of Assia Djebar’s novel, Children of the New World, is split into two parts. The first part is a background into the setting of the novel. The novel is based on the time period when the Algerians were at war with the French in the 1950’s in what is now called the Algerian War. The narrator first describes what it is like for women when neighboring villages were under attack. They try to stay safe by hiding in the backrooms of their house. There they try to hide what is going on outside from the children while at the same time watch what is happening. They would dream of a time when the war was over. The narrator quotes a woman whispering, “’The end,’ someone whispers, and then recites verses from the Koran to ward off bad luck. ‘That will be a marvelous awakening, a deliverance.’” They could be stuck there for days depending on how long the attack is. Even in their houses though, they were not safe. Occasionally, bomb fragments could end up on the terrace and destroy parts of their home. They also were not safe because if the attack was on their own village, the military would set every house on fire until the village was burnt to the ground and there was no way to find refugee from this.

...d again delve into her own emotions, using my words to help her identify how she may be feeling, my client can put a name to what she is actually experiencing. While it may seem obvious to the listener, when under stress, people may not know what they are feeling, or how to deal with it. Self-confidence is built when a listener allows that person to find out for themselves how to proceed (Petersen, 2007).
“Having just escaped the Laestrygonians, my men and I washed up on Circe’s Island, Aeaea. We stayed docked there for two long and relaxing days. We had all just feasted on my great kill, and I was ready to leave the ship. I decided that the best option would be to scope out the island and look for Circe’s house. On the island, there were many colossal mountains and cliffs that would give me the perfect view to look down at the island. I told my men that I would bring Aganon and Iros, two of my most trusted men, and that I would leave Eurylochus in charge of the rest. I informed them that I did not know how long I was going to be gone, so to stay prepared for my return at anytime. I demanded that they must protect the ship and each other from

Magdalena Yesil, I liked how she always gave her best. She wasn’t just learning she made sure to gain a lifelong learning. The lifelong learning gained opened the doors of success. I do not know if she was where she wanted to be, but I am pretty sure that she achieved everything that she wanted in life. One thing that was interesting was how she took every job. I like to think that her jobs were her steppingstones jobs, to reach her star. She did not stay long at each job but she stayed enough time in every job that she development. Every job gave her tools, to start the next one. Without the knowledge that each job gave her, I do not know if she had been able to do what she did. When something did not like her she changed it, and is what

Fear influences people to make irrational decisions and take extreme measures. Often times, these actions are done to protect one’s reputation. Fear causes people to lie and manipulate to those they care about in order to escape what they are scared of most. Fear of failure has caused higher levels of anxiety, and has made society put blame on each other, rather than owning up to their mistakes. Fear can also cause one to forget one’s true identity and lose one’s values. There are two options that one can take when being faced with a fear: run away from the fear, or go through it and learn a valuable lesson in the end that will make you a stronger person. Fear is a harmful emotion that everyone has to go through in order to succeed.
“Only a few certain people. My turn, what is a strange or different talent you have?” I questioned back.
“I must tell you something” Michelle stifled a shriek. The corners of her mouth almost touched her big eyes. Jamie didn’t shift her position to face her friend, she only let her eyes glide to the side. If it were any other person, they would have taken this as a cue to leave, but it was Michelle. She was familiar with these kinds of behavior from Jamie, so she stayed, still as happy.
“Are you done yet?” Sara said, attempting to rip us away from this beautiful moment. I understand now that she was trying to make sure I was safe, as I was talking to a stranger I had just met. I was still annoyed with her from the earlier confrontations we had. Her slight intoxication was another thing I didn’t want to deal with it.
The Character of Eustacia Vye in the Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy Analyse Hardy’s presentation of Eustacia Vye in Book One in the light of this comment. In “Return of the Native” we first come across the character of Eustacia Vye in Chapter 7. In this chapter Hardy gives us an in depth description of the character, for example we learn that she “was the raw material of a divinity”.
"Ok. Well in my mind I was thinking that I could see how her mind works or even gain her trust, ensuring that she won't hurt or aim to hurt me if the time comes. I also thought that maybe I could influence her to be less harmful to others, but that's obviously just wishful thinking on my behalf" I answered.
