CCIB received SOC 341 from reporting party (RP) stating that resident Sam Bordeaux (DOB: 02/25/40) was sent to the hospital by staff who stated that they could not handle the resident's level 4 dementia and aggression. When the resident was medically stable for discharged from ED, staff at the facility refused to accept the resident back into the facility. RP stated that the facility is not taking the proper channels for eviction and they are not assisting with arranging for higher level of care for the resident.

According to the RP Esteban is non-verbal, with mild epilepsy and intellectual disabilities. Furthermore the RP stated Esteban has substantial behavioral issues. It was reported the youth as resided in the group home since 2014. The RP disclosed on 1/22/17 a staff member (name not provided) reported that another staff member named Winter Easter had it Esteban on the head. The Walls’ children were faced with medical neglect from Rosemary and Rex Walls’. Medical neglect means failure to provide adequate medical or dental care for their child. Jeanette was only three years old when she was cooking hot dogs on the stove unattended. Incidentally, her favorite dress caught on fire and burned Jeanette from her stomach to her face. After, Rosemary grabbed Brian and Jeannette and hurried over to the trailer next door. The doctors said Jeannette was lucky to be alive. The doctors took patches of Jeannette’s skin from her upper thigh and put them over the most badly burned parts of Jeannette’s stomach, ribs, and chest. The first key concepts I learned about was using research-based, scientifically validated interventions to the extent available. I learned that PBIS is designed to meet the specific needs for each individual school. Teachers and administrative staff collaborate and discuss the problem areas in their schools. Then they design a plan to help prevent these problems. This is the great thing about PBIS is it is a preventative behavioral program. It’s purpose is to teach and practice before there is a problem. The team uses data to determine where the specific problem areas are. Then preventative rules for these specific areas are designed. So instead of having a general guidelines for the whole school. There would be a set of rules for parts of the school. For example there would be separate set of rules for the classroom, hallway, bathroom, cafeteria, and buses. Then the rules are broken up even further by safety rules, responsibility rules, and respect rules. When the entire school is following the rules and expectations it helps bring consistency to the teachers and staff. There is a consistency when it comes to praise and punishment. I was excited the first time I walked into the 49ers Bookstore. It was big and fancy looking inside with two floors, certainly much “cooler” looking than the one at Long Beach City College. I think unwrapping a book for the first time or opening a brand new textbook and hearing the pages stretch out from its first fold is one of the greatest nerdy feelings a student can experience. Buying books for my education has always filled me with great satisfaction, I love to collect books and have them as reference for the future. However buying school books has become a struggle and a financial burden for me, especially last semester.
