Within the early and mid-1900s, there were several moments in American history in which we feared that our democracy would be overridden by communist influence and infiltrated by communist groups. These two events were labeled the Red Scare, a time in which “reds”; or communists, were feared to be taking an active participation and role within our democratic government. The first Red scare occurred in the early 1919-1924 after the First World War and the second Red Scare occurred after the World War Two between 1947-1954. Both events, while happening in two totally different eras, carried effects that would impact American society for several future generations and impact the racial prejudice treatment towards those who carried communist beliefs and believed in a supremacist government.
There were several causes toward the 1920s Red Scare, and how it had aroused suspicions towards communism. This Red scare lasted almost 5 years until United States’ economy finally started improving after the disastrous World War One. The main reason for the first Red Scare was that Russian Revolution. At the time before the first World War, the Russian people were in an economically corrupted country. Few people had enough to eat or support themselves and were on the brink of death. In conclusion one could evidently see that the Red Scare had many causes and effects, some of which lasted for generations afterward and affected those to come. It created a period of fear and terror for the influence of communism and how it would impact American relationships with Russia. The Red Scare would lead to one of the longest “invisible” wars in which was between America;democracy and Russia;communism. It would create one of the most technology-advanced generations in which both countries competed for stronger weapons and military might. At the same time, it was also a Renaissance in which the greatest minds were sought after by the government.
