A lack of trust lead to Desdemona’s murder, by her husband Othello. Many may argue that death is mainly due to her husband’s ego and lack of trust for women, and that is in partly correct. However, Othello should not be the only one to blame. Othello’s downfall was he was too trusting of the Iago, who was close to him. Iago took advantage of the trust and loyalty Othello had bestowed upon him. Trust and loyalty that comes from fighting along side someone. The main reason that Othello trusted Iago more than his wife is due too the fact they fought side by side Iago was apart of his army. Desdemona’s murder is a mixture of Iago’s manipulative personality and Othello’s flaws.
Iago is the main reason for Desdemona’s murder, he manipulated Othello, Roderigo, his wife and Cassio. Iago, lied and stole to get what he felt he deserved, the position as lieutenant ever if that lead to the death of anyone. Iago was the one that lied to Othello which in turn made him assume his wife was cheating. He was the person that got his wife to take the handkerchief and plot it with Cassio. So, the trust of a conniving conspirator, Iago, was Othello’s flaw that lead to the death of his wife. Othello, also lacked the ability to trust his wife. Another fault is his rush to judgement. Which is seen when he never spoke to Cassio for himself, he was too trusting of Igao that he was honest. Pride, is another flaw of Othello that resulting in the death of Desdemona. As a consequence of Iago’s lies, Othello felt as though he was treated unjustly and the only way to deal with it was by murder. The final flaw the lack of trust in his own wife. He married Desdemona, but he didn’t trust her when someone planted lies in his head.
