The effects and causes of Air Pollution Introduction Air is vital to the human body, it provides us with oxygen, which is necessary for our bodies to function, but the question that rises is what if this air is contaminated. Subsequently, breathing may become difficult which in turn can lead to many health problems. Clearly, air pollution is a significant subject of matter that has been around for hundreds of years. There are numerous explanations to why air pollution occurs, but it is mainly a consequence of unnatural substances. In addition, these artificial matters are entering the atmosphere. Mostly, air pollution occurs from gases and particles carried by the air, such as dust and pollen and if there is too much of it can be damaging …show more content…
Countless types of pollution comprise of acid rain and the ozone layer having holes in it (Welch, 2013). Burning fuel for energy is one of the leading causes for air pollution. For instance, this burning fuel is exhausted from means of transportation, homes and industries. Even having a barbeque can cause air pollution because of the wood burning (Welch, 2013). This is surprising since when one is driving their car or having a barbeque, the individual is unaware that they are causing air pollution, which ironically having an effect on themselves as well. Likewise, the air pollution could also be influenced by turning on the fireplace and the charcoal burning which released from the chimney into the air. Another method for producing pollution is from noxious gases, such as nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide (Welch, 2013). These gases are distributed from manufactured ways like from factories or industries. Moreover, these gases mix in the atmosphere with chemicals, which creates smog and acid rain (Welch, …show more content…
In other words, it does not matter if one is outside for a few minutes versus one who has been there for an hour the result is going to be equivalent. The main concern for the respiratory part is that it initiates difficulty in breathing with diminishing lung function in children and adults. On the other hand, the cardiovascular adverse effects on air pollution are correlated with traffic. To clarify it, epidemiological studies have indicated that having contact with traffic is a sign of developing acute myocardial infarction (Katsouyanni,
Many people are unknowingly exposed to air pollution and have no idea. Some common causes of air pollution are automobiles, factories, landfills and toxic materials. Air pollution destroys the environment; it causes climate change because it greatly affects the greenhouse effect and it causes acid rain. Acid rain contaminates water and destroys animal’s homes. Air pollution has many effects on people it causes coughing, elevates your risk of asthma, wheezing, it can cause diseases and birth defects. It’s estimated “that seven million people died prematurely in 2012 from exposure to air pollution and that air pollution can cause cardiovascular diseases. The use of incinerators has caused protest movements from the Chinese citizens because they are becoming aware of the air pollution that is being given off from the burning of their trash and the effects it has on their health. There have been many reports of premature births and stillbirths of pregnant women that live near garbage incinerators”( Professional Safety, 2014, p.
Automobiles are the cause of 60 percent of our air pollution today (Dewees 214). There are four main sources in which pollution comes from an automobile. The first, on a hot day the sun will heat the gas tank of the car, this in turn causes vapors from the gasoline to leak from the fuel tank. Second, when the car is simply running the engine becomes hot and causes the engine and exhaust system to release gasoline vapors. Third, after a car is turned off and parked, gasoline vapors continue to be emitted because the engine is still hot from running. And lastly, when you go to the gas station to refill your gas tank vapors are forced out of the tank into the air.
Health effects from diesel exhaust is mainly related to the respiratory and cardiovascular systems with the central airway being the most affected. Diesel exhaust can lead to the development of specific diseases that can have a lasting impact on a person. Barath’s article says, “…Recent studies have also suggested a role for pollutants in the development of both asthma and COPD” (1). Asthma and COPD are both diseases of the central airway. They are chronic conditions that affect individuals for a lifetime. Diesel exhaust does the more damage to the respiratory system of children than it does to adults. Oehha’s article says, “Because children’s lungs and respiratory systems are still developing, they are also more susceptible than healthy adults to fine particles”. When children’s bodies are still developing, the environment around them has a larger impact on them. Pollution’s affect on children is so drastic because it can limit the body’s ability to farther
Air pollution is known to affect human and animal life. Plants are also affected indirectly as air pollution is known to cause acid rain, an even deeper detriment to plant life than most. Lung related diseases are among the most important features that the world have come
There are many kinds of air pollution. The ones I want to talk about are the ozone, acid rain, carbon monoxide and toxic air contaminants. Ozone is formed when hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxide react in sunlight. Therefore, ozone is at its peak during hot summer days. Exposure to high levels of ozone can have serious consequences on your health. It can cause respiratory disease, loss of pulmonary elasticity, and premature aging of our lungs. Next, is acid rain, which occurs in the atmosphere in the form of sulfur and nitrogen oxide. These pollutants can have serious damaging affects on aquatic, forest and wildlife ecosystems, as well as deterioration of buildings. Carbon monoxide is another form of pollution. It reduces the blood?s ability to carry oxygen. If a human is exposed to higher levels, it can cause chest pains, angina attacks or even death.
Air pollution is caused by many things such as car fumes, burning of fossil fuels,
Car pollutants cause immediate and long-term effects on the environment. Car exhausts emit a wide range of gases and solid matter, causing global warming, acid rain, and harming the environment and human health. Engine noise and fuel spills also cause pollution. Cars, trucks and other forms of transportation are the single largest contributor to air pollution in the United States, but car owners can reduce their vehicle's effects on the environment. Car pollution is one of the major causes of global warming. Cars and trucks emit carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, which contribute one-fifth of the United States' total global warming pollution. Greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, which causes worldwide temperatures to rise.
In conclusion, air pollution affects the immune system, making it weak and vulnerable to certain bacteria, illnesses, viruses and foreign invaders. Common diseases that are affected the most include asthma and allergies. Air pollution in general has been seen to modify the immune system's handling of particular allergens. The exposure to toxins like dioxin can cause serious health problems for people. Having long-term exposure to this toxin is connected to weakening of the immune system, as well as the nervous system, endocrine system and certain reproductive functions. Hence, everyone has a particular level and exposure of dioxins in the body. Improving air quality is the key answer to avoiding any type of development of disease, but it is a long term goal that will require the help and commitment at the national and global level.
Air pollution according to the Wikipedia << is the introduction of particulates, biological materials, or other harmful materials into the Earth’s atmosphere, possibly causing disease, death to humans, damage to other living organisms such as food crops, or the natural or built environment>>. Therefore, human being should be aware of the facts that the environment and all living creatures are dying. They need to understand the importance of natural items, the nature, etc…

Air Pollution is when a poisonous or a harmful substance is released in the air. There are many form of pollution but air is one of them, it only occurs when dust, harmful gases or smoke enters into the atmosphere and makes it hard for species like plants, animals and humans to live in a difficult situation because of the dirty air.Air Pollution is classified in two sections, invisible air pollution and visible air pollution.. Hence any substance that makes it difficult for the living things that need the atmosphere is air pollution.Humans have been undergoing air pollution ever since the industrial revolution. In order to understand the causes of Air pollution, it is divided into divisions. Primary air pollutants and secondary air pollutants:
Factories and transportation depend on huge amounts of fuel--billions of tons of coal and oil are consumed around the world every year. When these fuels burn they introduce smoke and other, less visible, by-products into the atmosphere.
Every other day a new industries are being set up, new vehicles on roads and trees are being cut to make way for new homes. All of them, indirect way lead to increase in CO2 leads to melting of polar ice caps which increase the sea level and pose danger for the people living near coastal areas. Pollution can have an impact in our health not only affects people with impaired respiratory system such as asthmatics, but very healthy adults and children too. Exposure to pollution for 6 to 7 hours, even at relatively low concentrations, reduces lung function and induces respiratory inflammation and, healthy people during periods of moderate
...rbon dioxide, hazardous chemicals, and other pollutants, which can put a hole in the ozone. Also, the usage of some mineral resources can also pollute the air; burning any kind of fuel fossils releases dangerous elements into the air, such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. All of these kinds of pollution which are caused by the increase of technology, can lead to global environmental problems.
Air pollution is a type of pollution that can severely damage our environment as well as the earth’s atmosphere. Air pollution occurs all the time when the air contains many substances ...
