overpopulation cause destruction of forests and water shortage Overpopulation is an undesirable condition where the number of the existing human population exceeds the carrying capacity of Earth. Overpopulation is caused by a number of factors. Reduced mortality rate, better medical facilities, depletion of precious resources are a few of the causes which results in increasing the population. In the future, overpopulation will become a huge catastrophe. Because of overpopulation, countries will run out of their resources, and they wanted to obtain more and more resources to destroy the environment. This undesirable condition cause destruction of forests and water shortage, but I think people can change some polices, and they also can promote …show more content…
“Growing advances in technology with each coming year has affected humanity in many ways. One of these has been the ability to save lives and create better medical treatment for all. A direct result of this has been increased lifespan and the growth of the population. In the past fifty or so years, the growth of population has boomed and has turned into overpopulation” (Cook, 1999). New technology can make people live longer than in the past because we can use technology to produce many foods, and we can make advanced machine for medical purpose to better health. For example, in China, most people were starvation because of natural disaster in 1953. A great number of locust ate their grain, and they didn’t have enough water to plant crops, but the Chinese imported new technology to promote output of corps. Also, China had good health since they imported the technology from some developed countries. Therefore, technological advancement is perhaps the biggest reason why overpopulation is continuing to be more and more …show more content…
In many countries, they are aware of overpopulation that as big global problem. For example, China has the highest population in the world, encompassing 1.4 billion, and people face serious social and economic problems associated with overpopulation in the years to come. They use polices to control population. “The Chinese government has used several methods to control population growth. The major method is one child per family policy. This policy stated that citizens must obtain a birth certificate before the birth of their children. The citizens would be offered special benefits if they agreed to have only one child” ( Hilali, 1997). The governments also use polices to build some protection zones. They can protect precious forests to make an beautiful natural environment. Making a police is an utility way to control overpopulation. Also, some developed countries make some strict polices about immigration to control population
... overpopulation two countries like China and the United States may have completely different policies on this issue, but yet they both are looking at serious complications because of it. China does have a much larger issue than the United States, but it is evident that if changes aren’t made the roles may be reversed, which unfortunately wouldn’t be good for either one. So despite the different culture, government, location, or history we see that they have both come to face the same issue of overpopulation. They must work to find a good policy that balances in between not violating citizen’s moral rights, but also being realistic about what one country can and cannot allow. This is an issue that everyone is aware of even if they don’t approach it correctly, “Our object must be to bring our territory into harmony with the numbers of our population.”― Adolf Hitler.
It is a known fact that the world population is increasing without bound; however, there is a debate if this increase is a good thing or if it will prove catastrophic. The article “The Tragedy of the Commons” by Garrett Hardin discusses how the ever-increasing world population will exhaust the world of its natural resources, and eliminate human’s capability for survival. On the other side of the argument is Julian L. Simon who wrote “More People, Greater Wealth, More Resources, Healthier Environment.” This article proposes the theory that with an increase in population, humans’s quality of life is amplified. One particular issue that they both mention and have drastically different views on is the future of agriculture and human’s ability to sustain it.
Humans have greatly impacted the global environment. Throughout the course of history, human populations have rapidly increased. Especially in Africa, these numbers have reached extraordinary proportions. Out of all the continents in the world, Africa’s population is increasing the most. The type of growth here is exponential. “Overpopulation is a condition when an organisms numbers exceeds the carrying of its ecological niche.” The growth rate of a population is equal to the birth rate minus the death rate. Therefore, for overpopulation to occur, the birth rate must surpass the death rate (Wiley). The current population of Nigeria is estimated to be 155,215,573. Most of the population consists of the younger generation. More specifically, 41% of the population is between the ages of 0-14. 56% of the population is between the ages of 15-64. However, only 3.1% of the population is 65 and over. This age group represents a very small part of the population. (CIA)
In order to solve the overpopulation issue, the government should pay great attention to it. Some policies, such as “ One China policy”, have already been made in China. They have already paid off. For instance, in 1994, the natural growth rate was 11.21, but in 1999 it was only 8.77 (SFPCC statistics). However, China still has a long way to go in this aspect, for the overpopulation is still serious now, just like what has been mentioned in the previous paragraphs.
Overpopulation has become an issue around our world without ever being properly addressed; until now. This issue needs to be addressed and solutions for it proposed now and that is what I am here to do. Overpopulation is depleting our already low resources and creating issues among the poor by putting more of a strain on them. Along with the poor, the wealthy are also being affected due to their world and the world around us running low on resources and space to put us all.
Over population is a concerning issue in China and Singapore because of the lack of family planning it affects the depletion of jobs and natural resources, crime rates increase, and it cost more for living. There is a lot of controversy over the topic of overpopulation but China and Singapore have experienced issues from overpopulation. The definition of overpopulation is: a function of the number of individuals compared to the relevant resources, such as the water and essential nutrients they need to survive. It can result from an increase in births, a decline in mortality rates, an increase in immigration, or a depletion of resources.
Human population growth was relatively slow for most of human history. Within the past 500 years, however, the advances made in the industrial, transportation, economic, medical, and agricultural revolutions have helped foster an exponential, "J-shaped" rise in human population (Southwick, Figure 15.1, p. 160). The statistics associated with this type of growth are particularly striking: "Human beings took more than 3 million years to reach a population of 1 billion people...The second billion came in only 130 years, the third billion in 30 years, the fourth billion in 15 years, the fifth billion in 12 years..." (Southwick, p. 159). As human population has grown, there has been simultaneous growth within the industrial sector. Both of these increases have greatly contributed to environmental problems, such as natural resource depletion, ecosystem destruction, and global climate change. Also linked with the increasing human population are many social problems, such as poverty and disease. These issues need to be addressed by policy makers in the near future in order to ensure the survival and sustainability of human life.
According to government officials in China, this policy prevented about 400 million births. Although that seems like a good thing when it comes to population control, we also have to keep in mind the ethical side of things. As of 2014, the Chines government allows their couples to have two children. Other countries have put laws and policies in place to encourage couples to have fewer children, but not forcing them. For example the United States in 1970 put in place a policy that provides contraceptive services, information and supplies to mostly people with lower
As long as there are homeless and hungry it’s selfish to make more people. Overpopulation is one of the most serious and old problems in the world. Every year it expands and become more danger than before. Even though it represents a great danger to the world. There were no solutions arouse that eliminate the problem completely. Human population growth had and still concerns scientists for many years. There are many issues attached to this problem as desertification and water problems .These sub issues must be addressed so that we can work towards solving the main problem, which is overpopulation .The population growth increases enormously all over the world .The current population of the Arab Republic of Egypt is estimated to be approximately 84.55 million people .The problem spreads all over Egypt , in both the countryside and the city .From the causes of overpopulation the decline in the death rate .As overpopulation is the difference between the overall birth rate and death rate in populations .The population will stabilize if the number of children born equals the number of adults that die .but as a result of better medical facilities and technological advancement .The death rate decrease with increase of birth rate which causes the huge population growth .Technological advancement in fertility treatment is another cause of overpopulation . with the many discoveries in medical science and technological advancement it become possible for couple who are unable to conceive to undergo fertility treatment methods and have their own babies .which lead to rise in birth rate .A third cause is lack of family planning .Most of developing nations have large number of people who are illiterate and ...
Around the world, people are concerned about overpopulation issue. Population growth mean the increase in the number of people that reside within the state or country (The law dictionary n.d.). Population growth is the root cause of most current global problems. Is not it? Different individuals have varied opinion about human population growth. This issue is the essential topic to debate all over the world. According to Garrett Hardin (1989, pp.11-13) famous essay called 'There is no global population problem ', he wrote: We are not faced with a single global population problem but, rather, with about 180 separate national population problem. Population growth is one of the reason of global issue but is not the root cause of most current global
One of the problems facing our world is population. It began about ten thousand years ago when the humans settled and began farming. The farming provides more food for the people thus making the population grow. Now we are about 6 billion in population and in a few years we will be around 10 to 11 billion. Therefore, our population will almost double in size. This means that we will need more food to support us. A study in 1986 by Peter Vitonesk, a Stanford biologist, showed that the humans are already consuming about 38.8 of what is possible for us to eat. Thus, if the population keeps increasing, the percentage will increase also, making us closer and closer to the biophysical limits. By studying the earth's capacity, Dr. Cornell, another biologist, believes that we are already crowded for this would. He believes that our world can only support two million people. Not only this, but population can cause complicated problems to the countries with very high population. These countries will need more schools to educate its people, they will need more hospitals and public health to take care of their people, and they will need more water and more soil for farming to feed all the people. In order to solve the population growth problem, the people should be educated. Once the people are educated they will be aware of the problems they ca...
Experts worldwide are warning that the current global population has exceeded Earth’s carrying capacity, and that current population growth trends are already leading to overpopulation. According to these experts, the effects of overpopulation could exacerbate poverty, unemployment, urban sprawl and lead to serious food and water shortages. As well as stating his position, this author will briefly explore these claims.
Of all of the environmental issues we perceive on the planet today, overpopulation is one that can be easily overlooked. Challenges such as pollution, climate change and global warming all seem to take priority in coverage, education and discovering solutions, but the majority of key environmental issues flow from the very fact that humans are over populating the globe. Overpopulation is the rapid increase of the human population, which is gradually exceeding the capacity of the globe.
Nowadays a prime example of one such policy is the past one child policy in China. Overpopulation has been an issue in China and the Chinese government has executed their own solution on this issue. The usefulness of the one child policy has been debated but data shows that it has in fact decreased the population during the time it was active. Birth control policies might be a viable solution to the current crisis of overpopulation but many argue that it would be unethical. The situation of China’s overpopulation can be very different from the US situation as well. The American people have much more control with their own personal liberty laws and many argued that a policy that restricts the amount of children our families can have would violate our human right to reproduce. However, birth control policies are not the only
In his book, The Population Explosion , Paul Ehrlich, a famous population controlist, came up with the equation I = PAT. He believes the impact on the environment is equal to the population multiplied by the affluence (meaning the amount of energy and food supply the population consumes) multiplied by the amount of destructive technology a country has. He showed that the impact is directly affected by the population. Therefore with a larger population, there is a greater impact on the Earth's water, air, and land. A common problem that people think is associated with overpopulation is running out of space to live, but there are also many other environmental predicaments that it causes. More people use more cars, need more firewood, drink more water. This causes more air pollution, more land ruined, and more water to disappear. Therefore, population control is necessary on an international level in order to protect our environment .
