There are not very many people that do not see horse shoeing as a very complicated job, but those people are wrong. A farrier must be skilled in ironwork, be able to evaluate a horses hoof balance, gait, and conformation. For those of you that don’t know much about horses, a gait is just a fancy way to talk about how they move, and conformation is, by definition, the degree of correctne...
fun with and enjoy your horse. To start you should have your horse groomed and in the cross ties.
Making sure your horse is thoroughly groomed is the first step to making him comfortable. Assuring the feet are picked and free of pebbles or stones are imperative to prevent any injuries to your horse’s feet. Next, comb out any tangles or debris from the forelock, (the horses bangs) mane, and tail. Keeping in mind the horse uses his tail as a deterrent for insects we want this to be free flowing and free to swat with. Now let’s brush our horse. Using a curry comb, first and in circular motions work your way down the horse’s neck, across his body and around his rump. This will loosen any built up and ground in dirt. Using a hard course brush, brush out your horses coat to bring up and out all that loosened dirt. Taking a medium course brush you may now brush off any loosened dirt that may still be in the hairs. Finalize you...

Have you ever felt stuck? Wherever you are, it’s the absolute last place you want to be. In the book Into the Wild, Chris McCandless feels stuck just like the average everyday person may feel. Chris finds his escape plan to the situation and feels he will free himself by going off to the wild. I agree with the author that Chris McCandless wasn’t a crazy person, a sociopath, or an outcast because he got along with many people very well, but he did seem somewhat incompetent, even though he survived for quite some time.
Grand champion! I was riding Fancy, a paint horse, at the Dallas County Fair in the Horsemanship class. In this class, I had to complete a pattern and it was judged on how well each horse and rider completed the pattern. The judge felt that Fancy and I performed best and awarded me with a big purple ribbon and a trophy with a horse on top. At the end of the fair, all of the grand champions were announced before the races. That was the final reward for successfully showing a horse in competitions.
The definition of grit is simple; it means being passionate about long term goals, and showing stamina to pursue them, but should students in public schools have a class dedicated to a grit-focused curriculum? This has become a major topic of discussion among teachers and mentors. Angela Duckworth, a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, claims grit is not a fixed quality but one that can be developed. Many disagree with her statement. Grit is something everyone all have within themselves, but some just do not utilize this characteristic as often or as well as others. Grit is a puzzling concept. Duckworth has had an obsession with grit for over a decade. Her obsession started when she visited West Point,

For decades, Scientists have contemplated the idea of using horses for the personal gain of children and adults with needs such as autism, heart conditions, anxiety, stress, and other disorders that have yet to be curable. Horses such as Chester, a twenty year old gelding has encouraged more young riders who face difficulties such as social skills, behavior skills, and those who are physically indisposed. The phrase confidence is key, becomes important when people of all ages interact with a horse. Learning confidence may not be as easy as it sounds but is a necessary step to bond with a horse; without it, there can be no trust and most importantly, no bond between the equine and its rider.
Have you ever been to a horse race? Seeing the riders give their horses a pat and an apple after the race, people cheering for their horse as it runs rapidly to the finish line? Seems like a great time. But what happens to those horses after they are done their race. What happens to the people who gambled their family’s lives savings. In the beginning of the summer, the pony would not move at all or go really slow when asking him to run the barrel pattern. After many attempts of trying to get the pony to walk with me on top of him, he finally started to get more confidence and knew that I would not let him run into anything while on him. During training, the pony knew the arena well enough so he would not bump into anything. After building up speed and getting better times, I thought that we were back in barrel racing. I entered the pony and I in the minnesota rodeo.
