A concussion is a serious type of brain injury. Concussions can change someone’s life completely, after suffering from a concussion you will lose certain abilities and be restricted of certain privileges. A concussions can be caused by a “blow to the head or body, falling, or a previous injury that shakes the brain inside of the skull.”
Some symptoms people might show if they are suffering from a concussion are; blurry vision, sensitivity to light or noise, or they may start to feel groggy, it is very likely that they will have memory problems or some type of confusion. Concussions are not always so obvious to spot, most of the time people do not lose consciousness or show the common signs of a concussion right away. Over time some symptoms that you should look for if you suspect that someone may have a concussion are if they have severe headaches or migraines, difficulty concentrating or remembering everyday things, confusion, dizziness, nausea or vomiting. When someone has a concussion it becomes more noticeable as time goes by, the symptoms may worsen overtime.
After recovering from a concussion people have said they feel like they are still not themselves. Some things a concussion may effect even after recovery are often feelings of dizziness, headaches or struggling to do everyday task to do confusion. Although it is not as likely for someone to have all of these symptoms after being cleared, it still can happen. Someone who shows signs of a concussion or is suffering from one should get have regular visits with their doctor. After someone is evaluated it is not certain how long they might take to recover. Most people fully recover from a concussion within a few weeks, although others take longer. After a concussion the brain is more sensitive and it is easier to damage, this is why it is so important to avoid activities or sports that may cause injury and affect you during your healing process.
The best way for one to recover from a concussion is through rest. You need a lot of sleep at night, and you should take it easy during the day in order for you to be able to get back to your normal daily routines as soon as possible. Spending less time stressing yourself and doing other activities is important to help you recover.
