There are several similarities that dogs and cats share. One being that they both require love and affection from their owners. These two animals are the most common pets in our society to this day. Some prefer the company of a cat, while others are considered dog lovers. I on the other hand am a dog lover. I consider a dog not only a pet, but a best friend as well. I have personally experienced the friendship that forms between an owner and their dog, and I can assure you that I will forever cherish the memories that I, and my dog Cubby have shared in the 16 years we were lucky enough to have spent with one another. Through the various aspects of each animal, I will determine the similarities and differences each pet holds, and in the mean …show more content…
The most obvious and noticeable similarity would be that both of them have hair. They are also domesticated animals that are kept as pets. Through my experiences with both cats and dogs, I can determine that they require lots of love and affection. Forms of love and affection can range from playing with the animal, to petting it. Cats and dogs love to be petted, and a majority of the time this will result in them shedding and leaving traces of hair on your furniture, as well as on your clothes. Cats and dogs both give birth to multiple offspring at once, which can cause their owners to have a panic attack, trust me, been there done that. Most people don’t want to own seven cats or seven dogs, and the time it takes to find them a safe and permanent home, is more time than one person can handle. Both animals are easy to love, and with the right affection they can feel like a family member or child to …show more content…
If you are a dentist then you might be thinking to yourself, dogs aren’t teeth! In this case it just so happens that I am not talking about teeth. I am using the other definition for a canine; another name for a dog. Canines travel in a pack in which they consider their family. Being that dogs are canines, it tells the owner that they require a lot of love and affection. Dogs also have a way to show their emotions. For example, when a dog is angry it will growl, when it’s excited it will wag its tail, and when it’s sad it will whimper or give you puppy dog eyes. This is the complete opposite of a cat. Cats tend to have very simple ways to show their emotion, in which they hiss to show danger, and purr when they are happy. Another difference would be that dogs are known to be much smarter than cats. For the most part, almost every dog will respond when you call them by name. Dogs also have a very strong sense of smell and have the ability to respond with action to commands such as sit, speak, jump, rollover, and fetch. These abilities enable dogs to be used for purposes other than just a household pet. Dogs can be used as seeing eyes for the blind or handicapped, or a search and rescue dog, where they are trained to use their keen sense of smell and intensive hearing to search for missing people, and sniff out illegal
But like an exception to every stereotype, my experience with a human –animal relationship is also an exception. When I was twelve, I received a pair of kittens as my birthday gift. I was never an animal lover so I wasn’t too excited to receive it. But as the days went by, spending time with them developed a soft corner for them. Unlike dogs, with cats it’s more of a give and take relationship. You have to spend time with them and show them you care for them to be able to reciprocate the same care and concern for you. The more time I spent with them, the more founder and inseparable I grew of them.
Dogs are common throughout the world, either as a domestic pet, a protector on a farm, or an assistant for hunting amongst others. Regardless of the reason for having a dog, most people have either owned one for themselves or have known somebody who has owned one at some point in their life. Despite the relative normality of having a dog in your life in one way or another, the reasons for dogs coming into existence are not common knowledge among most people. Throughout a great portion of mankind’s history, dogs have been an essential part of life. The truth is, dogs were actually created in part by man.
Cats can be very lazy but dogs are not very lazy. Dogs can be fun and active while cats just like to sleep most of the time . Dogs are very smart and cats aren’t super smart dogs can find there way back home cats don’t really remember where they live by heart.Cats aren't that helpful dogs are helpful because when people can't do something or have a disability dogs will help those people.
A soft purr, a gentle paw. A pet cat is a luxury that humans have indulged in for thousands of years, from their beginnings in Africa and the Middle East, all the way to homes here in 2014. Cats rival dogs as the most common pet in the United States, with 30.4% of houses owning 2.1 cats each (“U.S. Pet Ownership Statistics”).While working cats, such as farm cats, barn cats, and other rural, semi-feral animals may be kept for specific purposes of keeping pest animals at bay, the vast majority of kept cats in the US are pet cats, kept in homes for companionship and affection. Cat owners want the best for their pets, and as such is important to keep pet cat indoors, for their own safety as well as the safety of the local wildlife.
A growing number of studies have attempted to support the theory that cats and dogs differ in their personality attributes. Several common factors have emerged across these studies, such as difference among social behaviours. Higher levels of dominance and hostility have been reported among domestic cats (as cited in Fonberg, 1985). Not surprisingly, domesticated dogs are higher in submissive behaviours (as cited in Marder, 1989). Woodward et al. also reflect upon previously held theories of companion animal attachment that suggest attachment is mediated by the needs of the owner and the characteristics of their pet.
Dogs are extremely lovable and the only thing in life that they want is to be loved by their owners. With dogs, everything in life revolves around love and affection. The only thing that is on a cats mind is food and what they
Today’s domestic house cats sure have changed and traveled far from their old wildcat ancestors across the world. Cats have traveled halfway across the world and now live around the world in various breeds and sizes. Even though they live today in their domesticated form they still retain some of the traits that their ancestors bestowed upon them. The African wildcat is believed to be the ancestor of all domestic cats, and they’re even still alive to this day. Over thousands of years of speciation, domestic house cats came to be from these wildcat ancestors.
“A dog is a man’s best friend” goes much deeper than the phrase might initially imply. Recently many medical journals have begun to identify with the many and varied benefits of pet ownership. Men have always relied upon animals for work, transportation, and survival. As times have changed, man has begun to appreciate a different bond with animals. Gone are the days of animals running free outside around the homestead, for now animals are allowed inside and are considered by many to be an integral part of our daily lives! Medical studies have found that animals have a much greater intelligence level than originally thought. Through proper training and experience, animals are not only household pets, but also are becoming an accepted form of medical treatment.
People have started to make remarks of the resemblance between dogs and their owners, and from what we have found, it is usually noticed at dog shows and from strangers passing by in the streets. There are two factors that could make the owner and the dog similar. One would be people selecting dogs that are like them, and people who select dogs which features start to change and become similar to them over time. As a comparison to animals and their dogs, there is evidence that couples look physically similar after 25 years rather than people who have recently been wed. In the research we have conducted, we have found that purebred dogs have a greater resemblance than people who own non purebred dogs.
Dogs are wonderful creatures. They are loyal, dependable companions if given the opportunity. In recent years I have come to the opinion that we could learn something from these animals. We should also take a look at the manner in which they are being treated. Abandonment, irresponsible breeding, and neglect are only some of the ways that humans are failing the canine species.
Having a pet is a wonderful idea. Pets bring companionship, personality, and gut wrenching humor to households across the world. Having previously owned both a cat and a dog, and currently being without a pet, I began to think about getting a new furry friend. Born a dog lover, and bred into a cat lover, I had the difficult decision of choosing one of the two.
Dogs and cats are the most popular pets in the whole world. Even though they’re both very popular, they are different in many ways. Some people gravitate towards the calmness of a cat, while others seek the companionship of a dog. Cats are a lot more independent and less expensive. Cats don’t require nor do they want to be trained to be a house pet. Dogs on the other hand are very loyal and will act as your best friend. Dogs require more attention and training to be a well behaved family member. The main differences between dogs and cats are their personalities, habits, and training, which all determine what pet to choose.
A dogs behavior is significantly more desirable than a cats. A dog is loving and friendly most of the time and enjoys a good belly rub as a reward. If you try and scratch a cats belly, the cat will try to scratch and bite you. A dog is incomparably easier to train than a cat. You can teach a dog to do anything from bringing you your newspaper to the simplest command, sit. As a result of being able to train a dog, a dog goes to the bathroom outside, leaving no stench behind in your house. Whereas, a cat uses a litter box to go to the bathroom, there is always a stench in your house. Dogs are also far better with children. Dogs form a far greater bond with newborn babies, and often times do not leave the child’s crib side. Also, a trained dog will not cause destruction to your house, while you cannot train a cat to not use their sharp little claws to tear at the side of your couches, and rip and shred all the way down your curtains. Dogs also do not jump places where most cats jump, such as in your lap on your laptop, or on your dinner table at dinner. A dog won’t be a surprise first thing in the morning laying in your bathroom sink either. A dog will lay nex...
Both dogs and cats are good for companionship, because they are both very sweet, loveable. However dogs have a much more need for attention, dogs constantly want to be played with, and sometime aggravate their owner until they get what they want. On the other hand, cats pretty much like to stay to themselves. Some cats may stay away during the day time and only come out at night. Dogs sleep pretty much at night while some cats are up all night.
In conclusion, there are various similarities and differences that dogs and cats hold to one other. This compare and contrast between the two animals is perceived in different ways. Some may think more highly of cats due to their intelligence, while others will choose a dog any day because of their companionship attributes. It primarily relies on the personality and desires of a
