Catholic Beliefs about Justice, Forgiveness, and Reconciliation
Catholics believe that forgiveness is an aspect of love. When you
forgive someone you don’t hold the person’s offence against you, nor
do you seek revenge or treat them like a foe. Christians are asked not
to do evil to their enemies, but to instead to them good, and to pray
for them. Also to always have a forgiving attitude towards them and to
always be prepared to be reconciled with them.
When we are hurt or perhaps injured, we often feel rather bitter and
resentful, when we feel this, its hard to get rid to those feelings
even if that’s what we want. To overcome this, Christians must
remember that forgiveness is an aspect of love of neighbour. The
Catechism of the Catholic Church says, ‘The works of mercy are
charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbour in his
spiritual and bodily necessities.’ This emphasises that forgiveness is
an aspect of love.
The Catechism tells us that, ‘Justice is the moral virtue that
consists in the constant and firm will to give their due to God and
neighbour.’ This tells us that justice is a kind of fairness, its
giving to others what is their right. Justice is a basic way of
putting into to practise the command to ‘love your neighbour as
yourself’. You would not want your neighbour to steal your
possessions, so you should not steal the possessions of your
neighbour. ‘You shall not steal’, this is the seventh commandment and
it ‘commands justice and charity in the care of earthly goods and the
fruits of men’s labour.’ The Catechism tells us here that it’s for the
sake of common good to respect the right to private property.
In today’s world there is a clear lack of justice. It’s a well known
fact that the resources in the world are unequally shared out. In many
areas the rich are getting richer and the poor are becoming poorer.
There are more than enough resources to go round the world, but 80% of

Nearly three decades have passed since the eleven-week armed stand-off between the Mohawk Warrior Society, Sûreté de Québec, and Canadian Armed Forces, commonly known among Settlers as the Oka Crisis. While the relative success of the conflict on the behalf of the Kanien’kehá:ka people is still widely debated today, it is undeniable that it fundamentally changed Indigenous-State relations in Canada. One concrete measure that stemmed out of the stand-off was the creation of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal peoples (RCAP) a year later in 1991. The largest and most expensive commission in Canadian history, RCAP was tasked with contextualizing the history of the Indigenous-State relationship and producing recommendations for its improvement.
can use this to be sin free and be able to gain a place in heaven
In Christianity, the emphasis is placed on love of God rather than on obeying his will. People must believe that God is merciful and loves them as well. As a reflection of God’s love, people must also love other people (and the whole humanity in general) and forgive their enemies. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus endorses agape, or selfless love (in contrast to eros, or possessive love), which consists of dedication to another person’s good, even at the expense of our own good and happiness. People should practice peace and nonviolence, return good for evil and love for suffering (“turn the other cheek”).
...us’s life of no evil! With this you get complete forgiveness, covered by the righteousness of Jesus Christ, and when God looks at you when you meet death, He sees the cross and when he looks at you he sees Christ. This is how anyone is able to get to heaven and this is how evil is ultimately overcome.

Forgiveness is the act of releasing an offender of any wrong or hurt they may have caused you whether they deserve it or not. It is a decision to let go of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group of people. When we choose to forgive, we’re wiping the slate clean, cancelling a debt, or as I love to say, “Letting it go.” In the Bible, the Greek word for forgiveness literally means to “let it go.” This concept, “forgiveness,” is easier said than done. Majority of people find it very difficult to let go of offenses and hurts caused by others. I really do believe that most people desire to let it go, but we lack the knowledge of how to do it. As believers, we are instructed by God maintain an attitude of forgiveness.
