Respect. A seven lettered word. The merriam-webster dictionary says respect is: a feeling of admiring someone or something that is good, valuable, important, etc., which could be a mentor or celebrity. The second definition was: a feeling or understanding that someone or something is important, serious, etc., and should be treated in an appropriate way. Lastly: a particular way of thinking about or looking at something. This means a lot of different things for different people.
Growing up, we are taught in order to get respect, you have to give it, respect your elders or treat others the way you want to be treated. Whichever you were taught, the bottom line is RESPECT. In today’s society, respect is a thing that gets tossed around everyday for a high school student. Anywhere you go, you can see a lack of respect. Either for age, the color of someone’s skin, someone’s profession, a position at work, or

There are many people who still try to ban the book today. One of the first major challenges happened when a teacher was fired from her job for having 11th graders read it for class. “Many people feel that J.D. Salinger’s novel is dangerous because it contains vulgarity, violence, and sexual content “The Catcher in the Rye” helped readers realize the actualities of America during the time the book was written. While propaganda and television made America seem glamorous, the story put a lot in perspective for readers. It has also become a symbol of adolescent angst. “ Literary critics have both hailed and assailed the novel, which broke the mold with its focus on character development rather than plot. Holden Caulfield, the novel’s protagonist, has since become a symbol of adolescent angst. In 1980, 25-year-old Mark David Chapman shot Beatles legend John Lennon in front of his Manhattan home and later gave the book to police as an explanation for why he did
Respect to me is admiring someone for their abilities, qualities, or achievements. I think respect is always earned an can never be given. As soldiers soldiers we should always respect our peers because they have made the same sacrifice as us. But as soldiers we should have a higher level of respect for our NCOs because they have done their time an have earned it. Being respectful is not hard it is simple, just treat others the way we would like to be treated ourselves.
Respect, the qualities, or achievements, somebody admires about a person. Someone with a tremendous amount of respect is known to have power. A person with an excessive amount of money is known to
In the novel, The Catcher in the Rye J. D. Salinger portrays a rebellious teenager who has run away from everything. Throughout the book, he gets himself into trouble several times all while his parents think he is still in the school that he flunked out of. Set aside from running away, Holden makes many mistakes and does things that would never be expected from a 16 year old boy. Many people say that this book encourages teens to rebel against society’s expectations by his actions of drinking, smoking, and breaking the rules, but it is through these actions Holden accomplishes nothing.
Respect is when you give honor or admiration to someone or something. There are many ways to show respect, and to give it to your peers and teachers. One of the most simple things to do is to avoid getting off task. This means not talking about what’s for lunch, but instead working on what you are
Since its publication, the novel, The Catcher in the Rye has been a source of controversy. Holden Caulfield is placed in questionable situations due to his alienation from society and desire to protect the innocent.
Respect is a positive feeling shown towards someone or something considered important, or held in high esteem or regard as it conveys a sense of admiration for good or valuable qualities. This debatable concept of whether respect must be earned or not is explored in “The Fight” by Richard Wright and in “The Confrontation” by Raymond Barrio. Even though some support exists for the struggle for respect being freely given, more evidence supports respect being earned by oneself because it gets one point across and respect cannot be given unless it is earned.
My final point being, not only does respect reflect on your image; it can also influence others in positive ways such as when Flore fixed the clothes for Bernice, Bernice respected Flore. I personally think that when there is respect between two individuals they listen to each other and help each other out, this provides a positive flow in the society. As I said before without respect there would be no humanity, and this world be chaos place. I ask every individual today to try to be respectful and see what he or she can achieve, while being respectful. When you start respecting people you will have more friends, and everyone would love and care for you. Respect also doesn’t come from one individual it has to come from both individuals, so be the bigger person and respect that individual first.
There are different kinds of respect. There is the definition I was taught at school. The first day of 4th grade, the teacher would call on students to add to the class definition of “respect” on the whiteboard. It is treating others the way you want to be treated. It is being nice when others aren’t. It is sharing your pencil sharpener with your partner.
Respect is a positive feeling of strong feeling of pleasure and wonder or respect for a person or other things, and also specific actions and conduct representative of that respect.Respect can be a specific feeling of regard for the actual qualities of the one respected. It can also be conduct in peace with a specific ethic of respect. Respect can be both given and, received. Depending on a person's cultural reference frame, respect can be something that is earned. Respect is often thought of as earned or built over time. Often, continued caring interactions are needed to maintain or increase feelings of respect among people.
As a child growing up in the public school system, and even at home in the family situation I was always taught to be respectful toward my elders and everyone for that matter. However, it appears that respect in schools has died down and an epidemic of disrespect is sweeping across the United States current school- aged generations. The simplicity of the common statement related to respect, “treat others the way you wish to be treated,” no longer has the effect on young minds like it used to. Oxford Dictionaries defines respect as "due regard for the feelings, wishes, or rights of others" and also as “A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievement.” I feel as though these definitions
Respect is defined as a feeling of admiration for someone or something because of their abilities, qualities, or achievements. Self-respect is having pride and confidence in oneself; a feeling that one is behaving with honor and dignity. But the question is: how can I respect other people when I can not respect myself? How can I function without this basis of a social construct? The answer is is that it is easier to admire thing about other people that I do not admire about myself, and I do function, not healthily, but I manage to make every day count.
Respect is needed in a modern world to foster peace and kindness between all people.
Respect is universal, no matter where, what, how or who we are, respect has to be our priority in our daily life. Being respectful with others sometimes is a guarantee of mutual respect. Respect is the action that represents admiration and tolerance to others. I believe we all should respect each other, no matter if we like or don't like the person, we should respect him or her anyways. Definitely, I think we have to respect someone in order to love him or her.
Respect you have to give it to earn it. Everyone has herd of that saying. Respect should be used for day to day basis in everyday life. Many people seem to lack the attribute of respect in their lives every day. Respect should always be given to anyone and anything.
Respect is a very serious topic in teen leadership. It is something that many people value and what everybody should deserve to obtain. Respect means to be observant of the person or group’s beliefs and ideas and not automatically laughing or start talking behind their back. Many people in today’s society struggle with keeping or giving respect to another person and it is a problem. The problem causes many arguments that cause unnecessary arguments and fights. Respect is something that you should give to everybody no matter what they look like or no matter the way they look. One famous quote is by Doctor Suess and it says, “ A person’s a person, no matter how small.” This is a great example of how respect should be given to a person. No
