Ever since I was a young child I have enjoyed catfishing. Catfish are one of the roughest and toughest freshwater fish in the world. The catfish species can be found in just about any river or lake in the US. When a catfish gets irritated and caught on the line it likes to jerk and spin, this makes catching a catfish one of the most adrenaline pumping experiences of a lifetime. Have in mind that catfish can be pretty small in weight maybe a pound or two and can easily grow up to be over 40 pounds. In order to start fishing for catfish you will need a few crucial items. The most important item would be the fishing rod. The ideal fishing rod for catfishing would be a seven to eight-foot rod with a medium heavy action. The next crucial piece …show more content…
of equipment would be the fishing line. The line must be strong enough to catch a large fish. The line that I would recommend would be 30lb test fluorocarbon. The fishing line should be spooled onto the reel with the correct amount of line that is recommended. A few other things that you would need would be weights, hooks (I prefer a size 5 circle hook), a bell, gloves, needle nose plyers, and some bait. The ideal bait would be something fresh which could be chicken liver, shrimp, or fresh cut shad. Once you get all your equipment gathered up you must head out to your favorite lake or place to fish on the river. Once you arrive to your spot you have to set up your rod and reel. Once you put your line through all the eyes you must slip your weight onto the line about 18 inches from the end. From there you will tie on the hook with a strong fisherman’s knot. Then you will clip on the bell to the tip of the pole. Once your knot is tied you are all ready to put the bait on the hook. It will not matter what bait you chose from the couple options available, you will put it on the hook the same way.
Make sure the bait is on the hook nice and sturdy, the worst thing that could happen is watching your bait fly crossed the lake because it was not put on properly. Once the bait is properly put on the hook and is secured you can now get that bait in the water and start fishing. You will want to be as close to the shore as you can get while still remaining safe. Then you will want to get into a nice firm stance and grab your fishing rod. Finally, you will want to grab the rod firmly and tip the pole back behind your back and then press the button and launch it forward, this will propel the bait and soar it into the water. Catfish are really slow at taking the bait so you will have to be very patient. But once the fish takes the bait it will twist and turn underwater which will make the bell ring and the rod bend down towards the water. Start reeling the line in slowly. You will want to exhaust the fish out by pulling it in slowly. Once the fish surfaces you will want to grab it behind the pelvic and pectoral fins because they have stingers on them. From there you should hold up the fish and take a picture if you want and then remove the hook with the plyers that you have brought along. Make sure to release the fish slowly into the water and watch it swim off into the murky
depths. After releasing the fish into the water and watching it swim off you get this shaking in your hands that I cannot describe. The adrenaline rush you get from reeling in a huge catfish is unlike any other feeling. The celebration is even better when you put in the time, money, and preparation spent in order to catch it.
To use the lure effectively, it is necessary to accurately portray what the name implies, a wounded minnow. A fish, like any other creature, is aware that wounded prey is much easier to catch and will find the temptation of an easy meal overwhelming. This means doing away with the standard method of casting a lure and immediately and steadily reeling it back in. To start fishing with a wounded minnow, find the shallow fishing spot you prefer and sit just close enough so that you can cast your lure into the area.
When it comes to bass fishing techniques, there is a plethora of information out there that can be confusing for the beginning angler to sort through. By understanding just a few basic techniques, you can cut through all of the information and get the fundamental knowledge that you need in order to successfully catch your first bass. Then as you gain experience, you will be able to build upon the basics that you have learned to become an expert bass fisherman.
Description – Hardhead catfish have six rounded barbels that stick out from their chins like whiskers. These barbels help the catfish find crabs, fish and shrimp in the muddy bays where they live. The dorsal and pectoral fins each are supported by a sharp, slime-covered barbed spine. The catfish is covered in a mildly toxic slime, that causes severe pain, and swelling, should the catfish cut you. The dorsal spine normally is held erect when the fish is excited and a tennis shoe or even a leather-soled shoe offers little protection. Adults may reach two pounds or more, but the average is about 10 inches and half a pound.
There are two things that should be considered in bass fishing, which are, the bass location on the lake or river and bass catching using different techniques, presentations and baits.
On the first casts with our modified lures, we got bites and set our hooks, but only to the dismaying result of slackened line. Upon retrieval, we fou...
Around noon, my family and I head out to the dock. We each grab a fishing rod,
Since this first encounter I have caught lots of these magnificent fish and as the years go by they seem to keep getting bigger and bigger. I have developed several baits and presentations that help me to catch these fish and I would like to share them with you.
Since the start of time, humans have been catching fish. The sport has, in many ways, evolved hugely, and yet in many aspects has stayed exactly the same. To me fishing is unique and I find it can be anything from relaxing to a very intense experience.
Fishing contains a wide variety of physics. when you cast you are using projectile motion and rotational motion. when you hook a fish it will often use the drag from the current agenst you. Immagine draging a fish through a swift current. You deal with the tention of your line, and the friction of the line through the guides. you also deal with friction when you use a drag.
waters. They have venomous spines that can be very painful. The Red Lionfish can be aggressive
The types of fish that are available will vary with each type of location and conditions and the person manning a small fishing supply can also give you a quick orientation of what you'll need to catch the most common game in the area you expect to spend time at. If I'm traveling between islands, I'll generally stay away from bait rigs as it's just too much of a hassle and prospects are good enough with a simple lure. Depending upon where you are, however, the colors of the lures and the type of action will make a big difference in your ability to get a chase from the fish in the
• Just like human beings, fish need food, oxygen, and shelter. These three basic needs dictate the location of fish in the ice and just realizing this will make winter fishing a lot easier.
There are thousands of different types of baits and angling types, and they are all used for different things. Baits are what the angler chooses to put in the water to attract fish, while the angling type is how the fisherman chooses to present the bait (reeling in or letting it sit). The tactics an angler decides to use is dependent upon what type of fish they are targeting (Pelton 2018).
The use of a boat while fishing and some of the physics applicable to boating will be included in exploring the various ways physics applies to the sport of fishing. Other topics will include the fishing rod, fishing lure, casting, and the fish itself.
2. Fish in moving water. Fish face into the current, so cast in front of them so that they see your bait.
