Society and medical care professionals are inundated with diseases that have caused death 50 or100 years ago. Advancements in science and technology is prolonging life expectancy for people. The National Institute of Aging focuses on health illness in the aging population and how research and studies can provide better quality of life for the extended years of life. The organization is headed by two offices and division that are designed to address specific areas of the aging population.
The Office of the Director and Deputy is segmented into four branches. The Office of special population’s duties involves helping the division focus on health conditions specific genders, ethnicity, race and disabilities. Social areas as well …show more content…

The National Institute on Aging is comprised of a vertical structure. Their main goal is to provide treatment alternatives and guidance for the aging population for quality health care for health issues that are evident in the aging process (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, n.d.). The National Institute on Aging’s’ divisions such as the Division of Biology focuses on research of age related changes in connection with certain medical conditions and diseases on a genetic, biochemical and physiological level. The Division of Behavioral and Social Research emphasis on these genetic changes as a whole in society as related to aging. The, Division of Geriatrics and Clinical Gerontology focuses new approaches to treatment of the aging population through clinical trials and translation of research to produce favorable outcomes of treatment. The Division of Neuroscience studies the neural and behavioral progress in related to the nervous system and aging. The offices of the organization focus on communications, planning, evaluations, ethics, financial and other administrative work that helps the NIA to remain a successful contributor of research in the US and abroad. For example, innovative treatment today has helped patients with cardio and vascular decline to live longer. Family members as stakeholders want their loved ones to have good quality of care and be able to remain independent and safe. Pharmaceutical companies can produce medicine based on clinical studies to help patients with diseases and to achieve a better quality of life. Healthcare providers devise treatment plans for patients with the help of research and clinical studies. Hospitals receive patients that may have illnesses that are difficult to treat. NIA’s research can help hospitals create treatment plans from clinical studies. concurrently, NIA research may be helpful in helping to treat or even diagnose a condition. Advocacy groups can utilize research findings to campaign for positive changes for healthcare for patients and family
