stagnate economy, increased competition from other attractions and looming government regulatory changes the Aquarium must stay relevant, competitive and strategically sound. Our team at the VEKK group have designed and conducted a research project to discover what Vancouver residents over the age of 18 think about the Vancouver Aquarium. Our investigation answers the following questions: 1. The motivation or reason why residents visit the Vancouver Aquarium 2. The level of satisfaction Vancouver residents have towards the Vancouver Aquarium 3. How do residents feel the Vancouver Aquarium could be improve? Although this method is limited when answering specific questions, it is key for background research. Using secondary research, one can determine trends, utilize data from past reports and gather opinions on multiple media platforms. Lastly, the research team used the focus group method. By conducting a focus group, we could receive answers with greater depth to gain more insight from survey responses. The six participants provided valuable responses regarding key areas of motivation, satisfaction and improvement the Aquarium could consider for future research. By using the methods above, our team collected valuable data shown in the following report. By analyzing said data, we provide a list of ten top findings that were discovered during this project and future recommendations that we would advise. This information will be invaluable to the Board of Directors in making strategic decisions for the future of the Vancouver …show more content…
Tourists and locals visit the aquarium for the extensive array of aquatic life including fish, stingrays and penguins. The larger exhibits showcase Dolphins and Beluga Whales, which each have their own featured show every day. With the slowing economy, popular attractions must stay relevant and enjoyable to compete for everyone’s hard earned money. Our Research team will investigate the motivations of and the levels of satisfaction of customers attending the Vancouver Aquarium. What motivates visitors to go to the Vancouver Aquarium? Are they satisfied with what the Vancouver Aquarium offers? How can the Vancouver Aquarium be improved? Purpose and Benefits of Research The purpose of conducting this research is to provide data to the Vancouver Aquarium’s Board of Directors so that they can make informed strategic decisions in the future to keep customer satisfaction high and maintenance and increase attendance. The benefits will be to recognize possible areas of improvement or areas that require additional research to be conducted. Research
Thesis Statement: Closing SeaWorld’s doors would be unjust, however; SeaWorld can repair its image by providing excellent care for its current residents and by shifting the business model from entertainment to rescue, rehabilitate and release at all locations.
Within the assumptions of the structural frame we will use it The first and most notable structural management issue is the goals that were setup by the aquarium. The original goal of the aquarium, as stated in the first mission statement, was, “make known the world of water through education, research, and exhibition.” Since the aquarium wanted to attract a diverse population into the aquarium the mission statement was amended to say a “responsive community resource to attract the broadest possible audience”, and a “culturally diverse staff.” There were many different types of programs to reach the goals of the aquarium, but they...
This paper reviews and analyzes three main issues with the first one being leadership. Other sub-issues involve lack of vision, coercive leadership style, using taxpayer’s money for personal benefit and irresponsible top management. The organizational structure, mixed communication, and no clear indication to who to report to is the second. The third being communication, this paper tackles lack of the ability to speak about the actual problems in fear of being ostracized; if you’re not with us; you’re against us. We suggest a solution based on our SWOT analysis, star bursting, brainstorm, mind map, and rational decision making tool. With the use of these five tools we hope to help solve the problem at hand by making the city zoo a more engaging and dynamic experience for both employees and the public.
According to public relations practitioner, Jill Revelle, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment’s mission is to have the best quality. She states that “[q]uality is strived for in every aspect of the company, including quality of the guest experience, quality of animal care and quality of the rides and attractions. Busch Gardens’ own vision is to add to life’s enjoyment through all of its products, ser...
Family therapy is often needed when families go through transitions such as separations between parents and divorce. According to research, “the power of family therapy derives from bringing parents and children together to transform their interactions” (Nichols, & Davis, p.18), as problems need to be addressed at their source. The children who are the most vulnerable, when parents decide to separate, exhibit symptoms which are exaggerations of their parent’s problems (Nichols, & Davis, p.18). Frank and Walt Berkman are the examples of how children cope and adapt to the stressors of family separations such as marital separations and
Perhaps the most visible and obvious structural issue revolves around the aquarium's mission statement and goals. As noted in the case study, the original mission statement "make known the world of water through education, research, and exhibition" concentrates on its goal to bring sea life to the community. The new mission statement saw the aquarium as a "responsive community resource that attracts the broadest possible audience delivering highest quality experience" and as "a culturally diverse staff."

In response to the question set, I will go into detail of the study, consisting of the background, main hypotheses, as well the aims, procedure and results gathered from the study; explaining the four research methods chosen to investigate, furthering into the three methods actually tested.
When I was six years old, my parents took me to SeaWorld for the first time. I remember clearly watching the Shamu show and sitting in the splash zone ending up soaked in water by the end. But I also distinctly remember wondering how an animal so big and beautiful could ever be happy in such a small tank, so far away from home. The animals could never possibly experience the joy they would out in the wild where they belonged. And even a six year old wasn’t blind to that fact.

For decades SeaWorld has operated and advertised under the guise of being a happy family destination where children can interact and supposedly learn more about sea life and sea creatures. The documentary Blackfish, however, has illuminated the public on the shady practices of this world renowned park and the manner in which they mistreat their animals and endanger their employees. The death of SeaWorld whale trainer, Dawn Brancheau, sent out shockwaves to the public; was this supposedly educational, family-friendly Park not as safe as people thought? SeaWorld scrambled and changed their story multiple times as to how the incident occurred and denied that they were at fault. The world-famous sea park built up such a celebrity status with their main attraction, “Shamu” that they could not possibly let the name be smeared by the death of an employee. What the research gathered hear proposes is that SeaWorld has built such an empire with the “Shamu” moniker and the killer whales’ “celebrity-ism”, that it’s gotten to the point where they are simply exploiting intelligent creatures to line their pockets with money.
Currently, live whale performances have become a main attraction for tourists. When visitors are at SeaWorld, they only see what is right in front of their eyes and do not care or want to know about the complications the whales go through just to make people smile. The documentary “Blackfish” exposes the truth about killer whales, their habits, and why they behave in the manner that they do when in captivity. The inhumane treatment of whales in captivity causes negative effects on the animals which, in turn, affects the humans who care for them.
Today thanks to many people who stood up Ocra capacity is being questioned and hopefully stop once and for all.Now I know many things I didn't know before about how to lend a helping hand.I started encouraging friend and family not to visit any SeaWorld park. Also, I am currently working on a letter directed to the owner of SeaWorld where I'm going to be expressing my feeling toward the park keep such breathtaking creatures in captivity and the terrible impact it has in society.I asked myself, many times how far are you will to go in order to see these majestic creatures free and in the wild. Therefore I asked myself many time and came to the conclusion that I will go as far as I need to go to aid them.

It is often debated on whether or not marine mammals should be in held in captivity. Some say the captivity of these animals is great for educating the public while others say it is destroying the physical and mental health of these creatures. Kelly A. Waples and Nicholas J. Gales have put together an academic journal discussing the health effects captivity has on dolphins. Waples is a member of the Marine Mammal Research Group and attended the Graduate School of the Environment Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Gales is the Chief Scientist for the Australian Antarctic Division. Together they give a large amount of information on the studies done on the negative effects captivity has on dolphins in their journal called Evaluating and Minimising Social Stress in the Care of Captive Bottlenose Dolphins. J. E. Heyning and C. A. Heyning have been studying the anatomy of whales and porpoises for many years now. They currently work at the Natural Museum of Los Angeles and in 1997 they came across a stranded gray calf whale of the coast of California. In Rescue of an Orphaned Gray Whale Calf they explain how they teamed up with the L.A. lifeguards, the police, and SeaWorld to help rescue the calf. It shows how SeaWorld can help marine mammals when they are in distress and need care. The Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS) is an organization founded in 2005 that is dedicated to inspire people to save the ocean. OPS is most famous for the film, The Cove, which won dozens of awards around the world including an Oscar for Best Documentary in 2009. OPS has put together an article about Sea World and the animals held in captivity called Marine Mammal Captivity: The Truth...
