Cape Town also known as the “Mother city”, is home to the Table Mountain National Park, one of the “Seven Natural Wonders” of the world and is a gateway to the South African experience.
Hotel Verde was created by Marco Delicio and his family as a flagship model to show that luxury and sustainability can work as one. Each year, America’s travel and tourism industry generates approximately $1.5 trillion dollars in economic output, or about 2.6% of the country’s gross domestic product (Select USA, 2016). Nearly 20% of this economic activity is directly related to accommodations, which serve the short term lodging needs of pleasure and business travelers. Unlike other American economic sectors, this lodging industry is a highly fragmented, diversified market with an incredible variety of suppliers. Temporary overnight lodging can range from undeveloped campsites, hostels, and capsule hotels all the way up to mansions and incredibly luxurious five store hotels. Price ranges run the gamut from just a few dollars a night to thousands of
This paper will discuss the five environmental factors that influence global and domestic marketing decisions that organizations must make. These five environmental factors are technology, demographics, government, culture and economics. Companies are affected differently by these factors depending on the industry they are in and the size of the organization. I will be using the Washington Plaza Hotel to illustrate how these environmental factors affect the hotel industry's marketing decisions. The Washington Plaza Hotel's major customer base is government, tourist, non-profit organizations, local businesses and some corporate clientele. Let's now take a look at how these environmental factors affect the marketing of the hotel.
Protecting the environment has become an important issue in today’s society. There is no longer any doubt that businesses should consider their social responsibility and the impact of their activities on their stakeholders. In addition, firms are beginning to realize that corporate sustainability can prove to be a win win. There are multiple benefits of sustainability linked to costs, revenues, community relations, and more. The decision to strive for sustainability is obvious, but this process is easier said than done. Developing a sustainability strategy is difficult in itself, but the most challenging factor is the actual implementation. Marc J. Esptein, the author of Making Sustainability Work: Best Practices in Managing and Measuring Corporate Social, Environments, and Economic Impacts, provides companies with tactical methods and approaches, as well as real life examples and personal advice in order to assist in helping companies with achieving corporate sustainability.

In spite of having numerous structures in place to ensure a luxurious guest experience, the Oberoi Vanayvilas (OV) failed to provide a quality service to its hotel guest. To recover from this service failure, we recommend OV to sincerely apologize and ‘offer refund for the third night and a credit for the two nights for a future stay with additional hotel perks tobe used at OV within a year’ to the impacted guest. Main drivers for our recommendation are to convey a message that Oberoi sincerely cares about the customer inconvenience and wants its guest to revisit the hotel to win over the customer by its exemplary quality service.

Travel and tourism makes up a large aspect of the modern economy, especially in first-world countries like the United States - it sets the cornerstone for the service industry and is a huge creator of wealth, both internationally and domestically. Much of the tourism industry is based on unsustainable practices which often have a huge impact on the local environment. With the increase of environmental awareness and activism within the last few decades, this unsustainability has lead to the emergence of an “alternative” form of tourism based on sustainable and eco-friendly practices, also referred to as “green” tourism or ecotourism. Ecotourism lets tourists interact with local communities and people. As a result, ecotourists both see the benefits of preserving natural beauty and the urgency of the situations in communities affected by climate change. The Hotel industry not only plays an important role in the life of people but as well as the economy of the country. I spent an hour of my day relaxing in the lobby at the Fontainebleau resort in Miami, while on vacation with my family visiting from out of state.
