Standing at the starting line of the full marathon I felt anxious and nervous. Not only was I excited to accomplish this goal, but also I was nervous about the difficulty of this task. However, when I crossed the finish line and accomplished this goal, I realized that a new and possibly more difficult goal was about to start. This goal was not only to complete Physician Assistant School but it was to strive to excel in a career as a Physician Assistant in a rural primary care setting. Driven by my intrinsic personal traits of leadership, compassion, and commitment, I am motivated to achieve this goal of excelling in my career as a Physician Assistant.
This case involved a 53 year old man who sustained a significant tear of his rotator cuff while playing baseball. He underwent surgical repair and was given a referral for physical therapy. The referral was to begin passive ROM 3 times per week for 2 weeks then initiate a supervised home program of active exercise for 2 weeks, and elastic resistance exercises for internal and external rotation every other day for a month. 2 weeks after surgery, he had his first PT visit in a sports medicine clinic that was managed by an athletic trainer (ATC).”
The Occupational Therapy Practice Framework defines an occupational profile as “the initial step in the evaluation process that provides an understanding of the client’s occupational history and experience, patterns of daily living, interests, values, and needs (2014).” During this process the client’s problems and concerns about daily occupations are identified then the client’s main concerns are determined (American Occupational Therapy Association, 2014). Occupational Therapists strive to be holistic and client-centered, and the occupational profile is one method to ensure treatment takes on these characteristics. During the occupational profile the clients share their priorities based on what is important to them, and the therapist
Focusing on pursuing a career you like is important because statistics show fifty-two percent of Americans are unhappy going to work every day because they chose a career they didn’t have an interest in. My ideal job is in the medical field because I’ve always had a passion in helping people. I want to specialize in nurse anesthesia because of the important role they have in society. Nurse anesthesia interests me because of the tasks they do, the advanced education path they must take, and the history behind the profession.

The career that I chose to study was a Physical Therapist. I chose to study physical therapy because it is something that I have become interested in. My field of interest once I graduate from WCU is physical therapy. This care specialty uses biomechanics, manual and exercise therapy, electrotherapy, and various other therapy techniques to remediate injuries and impairments, as well as promote mobility. There are several types of physical therapy, including orthopedic, pediatric, geriatric, neurological, pulmonary, and cardiovascular. The field of physical therapy was established in Britain during the late 19th century. Then, in 1921, Mary McMillan established the American Women’s Physical Therapeutic Association, which later became the American Physical Therapist Association.
I have dreamed of becoming a physical therapist since I was a child. A few of my family friends are physical therapists and it was just something that really interested me. Although some would think that a Physical Therapists career is smooth sailing, healthcare professionals challenge a series of regulatory and ethical issues in the modern varying practice settings. I grew up wanting to help people in some type of way, but after researching more about physical therapy I found out that doing what’s best for someone such as a patient is often manipulated and, at times, compromised. Clients are manipulated by other factors, including rules or guidelines linked
If I was the social worker in case 3.3, it would be difficult with me to confront the husband about the information that I heard. Of course, I would want the husband to be honest to me about his extramarital affair, however, I do not want to force him to admitting to such an action. The man might be receiving the help that he needs without me knowing about his extramarital affair. On the other hand, being he is seeing me for counseling regarding his marital concerns, becoming aware of this third party is likely to be beneficial. I would not want to directly tell him that I discovered some things about him, because this will cause a lot of issues that I am not technically a part of. For example, conflict between him and his wife might arise for a variety of reasons. The man might not have known that his wife was also seeking services and once
People across the world participate in recovery programs every day. Dedicated people in professions, such as occupational therapy, work to help each person regain his or her ability to engage in everyday activities. One wishing to pursue a career in occupational therapy would first need to evaluate the career and the significant effects on themselves and the clients.
In the bizarre country we cohabitate, many individuals live with physical disabilities. However, physical abnormalities are not the only thing that constitutes a disability. According to the Social Security Administration (2013), mental disabilities accounted for about 1/3 of the disability claims. One might ask, “What are the odds of interacting with a person that suffers from a mental illness in America these days?” the National Institute of Mental Health (2015) claims that about one out of every five adults suffers from a mental illness, so pretty good odds. Growing up with a mother who suffers from a mental illness, I learned
Nothing will deter me from achieving my goal of becoming an Occupational Therapist. I have
Where I a special education assistant attempting to work with Buddy in the situation described in the case study for this assignment, I would respond as such. If I were just an assistant and could work with Buddy exclusively while the teacher was able to continue on with a lecture and educating the rest of the class, I would tell Buddy he had to follow me outside of the classroom so that we could talk. If he did not respond initially to this entreaty, I would pretend that he was in trouble and that we were going to the principal’s office—simply so I could get him away from the rest of the class and be able to work with him in this situation alone.
Occupational therapy intervention enhances investment in significant parts, undertakings, and exercises. Intervention, including separately choose and reviewed tasks and exercises involves retraining motor, sensory, visual, perceptual, and cognitive skills within the context of functional activities. Interventions may include methods, for example, techniques that may be used to reduce spasticity include stretching and static or dynamic splinting. The occupational therapist may recommend a firm bolster gadget to lessen the danger of shoulder subluxation or avoid facilitated subluxation. Visual and perceptual impairments are minimized by retraining in particular abilities, showing remuneration methods, unimpaired skills, or adjusting the environment.
I believe that from a general sense, all people need and crave social interaction and emotional fulfillment. From the beginning of childhood, human beings thrive off personal contact with others. They learn through these interactions, which begin to help shape who they are and who they want to become. Every human being has a different purpose in his or her own life. Some may seek professional success or social status. They may have the desire to attain a position leadership that perhaps seeks to help others. No matter what the case, most people do have one thing in common: the basic desire to be accepted and love.
