to support family members in any way needed and promote their success (Family Service Agency, n.d., p. 4). o “Senior Services” –services for the elderly such as therapy, information on health, and the like, to increase self-confidence (Family Service Agency, n.d., p. 5). • Most Interesting Facet of Agency o The most interesting facet of Family Service Agency is their community events component in which they host events such as “Cooking for Kids’ Sake,” or a “Senior Pie Auction.” Such events speak volumes about the agency in that they go beyond simply providing services to recognize the humanity of their clients. The controversial issue of whether or not Child Protective Services are doing their jobs properly, has grabbed nationwide attention. Child Protective Services is the name of a government agency in many states of the United States whose mission is to respond to reports of child abuse and neglect. Some of these cases may include physical abuse, sexual abuse, and mental abuse (Wikipedia). The child welfare system is corrupted. The parents and guardians who are accused of abuse are automatically labeled as guilty and will have to prove their innocence; instead of being innocent until proven guilty.
As an intern for DCFS, I have witness the “complicated” relationships that the two systems hold. Some police departments don’t believe it is necessary for a dual investigation; when it is the job of the children social work to investigate the abuse. During an investigation, the police arrived at the home, however, he refused to do his own investigation as he stated “you guys are already here, I don’t need to be here. I just need to make sure everything is okay, and the children are safe.” There can be some improvements in how the police system is involved with the child abuse investigation, in order to allow the child welfare workers to focus on providing services to disadvantaged families. Since caseloads are high, most child welfare workers have limited time span to work and focus on the families’ issues; such as, financial stability, social and emotional
According to the Case Management Society of America, case management is "a collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation, care coordination, evaluation, and advocacy for options and services to meet an individual's and family's comprehensive health needs through communication and available resources to promote quality, cost effective outcomes" (Case Management Society of America [CMSA], 2010). As a method, case management has moved to the forefront of social work practice. The social work profession, along with other fields of study, recognizes the difficulty of locating and accessing comprehensive services to meet needs. Therefore, case managers work with these
This program does not turn down anyone with a substance problem; the only requirement for the services provided is that the person has a desire to seek help to improve his or her life through drug rehabilitation. There are a multitude of services available for the person with the substance abuse and the families. The services provided are counseling, vocational training, education, and housing. This organization gives people a chance to find an environment that is conducive to rehabilitation and reintegration back into main society. This program does this by having dormitories available to people who are suffering addictions. This program also helps by providing vocational training. There is also opportunities to seek out education; this may be everything from gaining a GED to entering into college courses.

Big Brothers Big Sisters provides that mentorship and positive influence to children in order for them to make smart decisions in their lives when they aren’t around that mentor. I have one younger brother, and growing up he used to look up to me in everything we did. I never realized it until I was older, but whatever I did my brother wanted to do the same exact thing, and fortunately I made good decisions as a kid thanks to the positive model our parents had set for us. Big Brother Big Sisters is similar in the fact that their volunteer Bigs provide support, and help shape that child in becoming the future for America. This is for children who cannot receive this type of support within their family for whatever reason, therefore the agency still gives them the opportunity to mature in a positive way despite their
Child abuse in the United States is a growing epidemic. Every year the number of reported cases, and missing children go up. This is caused mostly by lack of education about the different types of child abuse, and the signs that go along with it. Communities need to provide more resources to better educate the public about the types of abuse, and the signs that go along with it. Child abuse and neglect can be lessened by more resources, more education and to reach out to others.
Child Protective Services For 30 years, advocates, program administrators, and politicians have joined forces to encourage even more reports of suspected child abuse and neglect. Their efforts have been successful, with about three million cases of suspected child abuse having been reported in 1993. Large numbers of endangered children still go unreported, but a serious problem has developed: Upon investigation, as many as 65 percent of the reports now being made are determined to be "unsubstantiated", raising serious civil liberties concerns and placing a huge burden on investigative staff. Unreported Cases Most experts agree that reports have increased over the past 30 years because professionals have become more likely to report apparently abusive and neglectful situations. But the question remains: How many more cases still go unreported?
The following proposal will provide and outline the reason there is a need for citylife church to develop, establish, and move forward with a full time counseling center. The purpose of the citylife counseling center is to become a formidable and intentional community minded service provider in the field of counseling not only for church attendees, but likewise with those seeking professional faith- based counseling and lay counseling as prospective counselees within the Tampa Bay area.

This is a community-based mentoring program in which at risk youth are able to have a positive adult role model in their life. The program targets youth that need it most, whether they come from a single parent home, are coping with a parental incarceration, or have seen trauma in the household. Youth come from many different home environments, family structures, neighborhoods, and social-economic levels. Regardless of these factors, each youth is unique and have been identified for having a need of a friendship with a helpful adult. The Big Brother Big Sister programs joined forces in 1970 to become Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Much alike most other mentoring programs, this was designed off of the social control theory. The social control theory utilizes the idea that socialization and social learning builds self-control, reducing the inclination of participating in an act that would be considered anti-social. This derives down from functionalist theory of crime; all in all people’s relationships, values, commitments, and norms encourage them to not stray away from the bonds of
Mentoring programs, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, are used as an opportunity to help lost children find their way back onto the right path. In these programs, an older, more responsible citizens volunteers to take a troubled child under their wing in a fashion that resembles sibling relationships. Programs such as these have been put into place all throughout the country. In 1995, Public/Private Ventures conducted a survey concerning the children of Big Brothers Big Sisters. This survey evaluated both matched and unmatched children, and found that the children matched with Bigs (i.e. Big Brothers or Sisters) were “46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs” (“Big Impact”). Implementing a program such as this would surely benefit the children and teens of Wayne County. If these troubled youths sign up for a local mentoring program and are paired with a Big that will teach them and look out for them, they have a better chance of staying away from harmful substances and bad
