It is vital that as a college student, you set goals for yourself. College is expensive, thus, being efficient and getting your degree in a reasonable amount of time is crucial to saving money. Setting goals will help you stay on track and better prepare you for the future.
Setting goals will also give you something to strive for. In order to be a successful businessman or woman it is important to set goals both short and long term. The most successful peopled in this day and age did not make it to the top because they were unprepared. They implement daily routines and ensure that they remain on the right path to success. For instance, writing your goals on paper. In my case, I have always enjoyed writing my short-term goals and then crossing them out when I complete them. This way, I know I have fulfilled my goal. Writing my goals down is something I do personally, but UNC Charlotte also has a plethora of resources to help achieve your goals.
Just to name a few, we have the University Center for Academic Excellence (UCAE), and the Writing Resources Center (WRC). Each of these resources is here at your disposal. For example, the UCAE has workshops and tutoring throughout the day which can give you some insight into new study tactics. The Writing Resource Center is available to help you identify and understand your strengths and weaknesses in your writing. They are extremely helpful and want to help you succeed.
Also, as undergraduate students, we have career coaches and an advisor to lead us in the right direction. Specifically, as pre-business majors, our advisors are in the Belk College of Business. Each advisor is extremely knowledgeable about the business program and each major inside the college. Along with the Advisors and Career Coaches, we also have our professors who are willing to help if you ask for assistance. Ultimately, you have all the help you need, it is a matter of how you use the resources

Not only does it offer assistance for the perspective individual in career development, but also on SAT/ACT preparation, online study guides, interview strategies and seminars by promoting growth and effective career opportunities.
Taking the time to reflect on one’s career can increase self-awareness and enhance professional development. A career development plan is a confidential and integral document created by an individual which outlines the activities undertaken during their life. Hence, a professional development plan documents goals and skills required to accomplish dreams and aspirations. Moreover, a professional development program is reminiscent of ones’ past experiences and a glance at the future. Having a professional development plan in place is critical for graduate study to keep track of one’s progression. The principal purpose of a developmental plan is to give a description of my educational and professional background as well to explore my personal goals as it relates to my profession growth and development.
Career counselors develop relationships with employers to obtain job, internship, and volunteer opportunities for students. I have always wanted to make good grades but I never really set any goals but, then I realized that setting academic goals are way more important than people realize . I then started to set goals like my sophomore year of high school after I did that it really helped me focus on my future and what I wanted for myself. One Goal I set was to graduate High school with a Core 40 diploma, which I did, so that is one goal down and a bunch more to go. My senior year I started applying to college but my main goal was to make into Saint Mary-of-the Woods and when I received my acceptance letter I was ecstatic. So far, I am still trying to figure out my academic goals for college but, I do know for sure that I want to succeed in every single way that I can so I can make a better future for myself.
