My life experiences thus far bring the best of both worlds to my education and career goals; a student coupled with a variety of life experiences. Being a newly graduated non-traditional student, mother of school-aged children, and experience working with students in the classroom, I bring diversity to your program. Through personal analysis and efforts with other professionals, I have overcome early childhood tragedies. Desiring to make the best use of my experiences by helping others to overcome trauma, and insecure upbringings by conquering these adversities and circumstances positively. Through my example of grit, tenacity, resilience, and perseverance, I hope to offer much to the students in my role as their mentor. Thanks to enrolling in college, I have seen an improvement in my memory abilities as well as having an increased focus on my studies. My goal is to keep learning anew as long as I am able. The spiritual discipline challenges require I stay present in the moment; mindfulness is a good way of explaining this goal. To achieve more with less anxiety in the process of my daily activities. With this comes improved time management, setting goals and pursuing priorities to improve my days. I hope to model this for my children. This goal is an ongoing process requiring much resilience, love and forgiveness. Exercise, including yoga, walking outdoors, and deep breathing for stress management keeps me balanced in my daily obligations. I have always been interested in working with children. Becoming a teacher has always been a potential career path for me; however, I recently discovered the position of a child life specialist which has further broadened my interest for a future career. Although they are not educators in school, they are extremely important since they are the educators for children and their families to help overcome difficult and/or challenging life events. As a child life specialist I will be teaching children and families in hospitals how to cope with their diagnoses, how a surgery day will go, how certain lifestyles will have to change, and much more.

As a teacher, my job is to help prepare students to become strong adults capable of meeting their own basic needs and prepared to participate in, and contribute to, a connected global society. To accomplish this, students need to learn academic content and twenty-first century skills, but just as importantly they need to develop traits and learn behaviors that will enable them to apply their knowledge. By addressing students’ needs while simultaneously developing strengths, teachers can help students develop the courage, confidence, and character necessary to continue to learn, adapt, and grow long after they leave our classrooms.

During this course I learned many stress management techniques. One of the first stress management techniques I learned was creating a list of things to do in order of importance. Before using this technique I left things to do all at once. This technique helped me by equaling out my work load. Another technique for stress I learned was yoga. What is my personal purpose? Is a question that I have never thought to ask myself until recently. Then when I started learning more about a personal purpose I started wondering if I have one and what it was.
