As a freshman going into the Career Fair, I was a little intimidated. I was told to prepare an elevator speech, find a suite to wear, and don’t do anything that will pin you as “that freshman”. To help with this preparation, I attended the Career Fair Prep Class for freshmen and sophomores hosted by Megan Dino. Her class helped me create my thirty second elevator speech and gave me the opportunity to practice it with other students. I also learned what kind of questions to ask the recruiters. I was told to ask questions like, “who is the customer base in?” or “will this role interface with customers or mostly employees in my department?” rather than just asking open ended questions that make the recruiter feel swamped. After the prep class, I went on I-link to research some of the companies offering job shadows. I decided I wanted …show more content…
to talk with Baxter Healthcare Corporation and True Partners Consulting on Wednesday and EY and Baxalta on Thursday. In the first five minutes at the Career Fair, I had a name tag made and was marking on my Career Fair Map where the booths were that I was going to visit.
I went alone, but saw two of my friends as soon as I arrived which helped me feel less nervous. The first company I talked to was True Partners Consulting. I had a really easy conversation with a woman named Katelyn. I got the impression that the employees had a close relationship and it was a very easygoing work environment. At the same time, they’re located in The Loop so they still have that “hustle and bustle” environment. Next, I talked to a recruiter from Baxter. This was a little more formal than True Partners and I stuck to my elevator speech rather than just talking in a conversation. The next day at the Career Fair, I spoke with recruiters from EY and Baxalta. At Baxalta, I was originally in the freshman line, but another recruiter pulled me over when I was free and said I could just talk with her. Her name was Christine and right away I could tell she loved her job. Our conversation was very easy going and we discussed the work environment, traveling, and foreign
languages. All in all, I thought my first Career Fair went well. I spoke to four different recruiters from four different companies. I felt confident in what I was saying and how I was put together. I did not feel stressed or bewildered and I know that definitely showed. All the preparation and research put me in a good position. As a freshman, all I could really hope for was a job shadow opportunity, but in the future I hope to continue with these companies and apply for an internship. For future careers, I hope to talk to more companies and see what else is out there. My goal for Career Fair is to always leave a good impression. The Career Fair can be connected to YPSG because in chapter two the author discussed how it is important to be nice to everyone—ganitor, front desk, and workers. Going into the Career Fair, you pass a handful of people and you never know who they know. You could be passing a recruiter and if they see you being rude to another person, they will surely remember. Also, if you see recruiters in the bathroom or parking lots, you never know what could happen.
I went for the Career Network Event and it was a great learning experience for me. I went there trying to apply everything that I learned from my job search class and it was a success. Because I had the chance to speak to the employer of my interest, and I everything went as planned, I remember my professor in class told us to make sure we have a goal and to know which company that we would like to work for and just go for it. I went in there and I did the exact thing that he told us. I remember before taking this class I used to try to speak to every single one of employer and then I put everything in one folder. Later on when I went to contact the job that I was interested in, I would get all the employers mixed up and because of that, that cost me a lot of jobs that I always wanted in the past.

It means learning all a program has to offer to be able to provide exceptional care to everyone, no matter who they are and what they believe. Doing so will shape my future as a graduate student and a professional who will uphold my career to the highest standard.
In general, contemporary times have made higher education really important as more high school students enroll in universities to earn an undergraduate degree in order to remain competitive in the job market. However, it is also very crucial for undergraduate students to gain skills or information that might aid them in their professional career once they graduate. Knowing about how interviews generally work may help prospective employees (undergraduate students) to get familiar and feel comfortable enough in an interview to effectively market their skills and capabilities to the interviewer, hence; being more competitive and increasing their possibility of being hired?
Ever since I was a little girl, I have always dreamed of having a job where I can help people. After doing research throughout my twelve years of school I stubbled across the occupation of a registered nurse and I realized that is the ideal career for me. While researching registered nurses, I determined that anyone can try and become a registered nurse, but it requires a tremendous amount of hard work. This future job will require me to have a great education, extraordinary communication, listening, and personal management skills. As a registered nurse the pay is more than ideal, and it would provide me with the lifestyle I would want to live. This occupation would also give me the chance to work anywhere I want, such as close to home or somewhere in a different state.
This February, I had the opportunity to chair a Valentine’s cards service project for the nursing home residents in my community. The main purpose behind this was to spread love to those who may need it. While I was in my Medical Assisting program at school, I was able to do my externship at an Internal Medicine office and work with a lot of elderly patients. Many of them garnered so much joy by just being greeted politely and acknowledged, even during a doctor’s visit. With two other members of National Honor Society, we were able to deliver the cards directly to residents during their entertainment. It gave me such a feeling of joy to be able to do something so simple, to bring happiness and love into someone else’s life.
High school has been a very interesting experience for me. It has definitely had its highs and lows and many confusing experiences in between. Overall, I feel like I have been equipped for not only college, but also life as a whole. High school has taught me many things, both academically and emotionally. It has revealed and exposed my true colors, both good and bad, and as a result, has built many aspects of my character. My experiences at Alameda High school and Alameda Community Learning Center have shaped me into the person that I am today.
The internship that I acquired during the summer of 2010 at the Greenwood Sports and Industrial Rehabilitation Center (GSIRC), allowed me to gain an immeasurable amount of experience during my tenure at this facility. Within this period, the exposure to new concepts within the physical therapy industry allowed me to observe and work hands on with patients of all ages and disabilities that exposed me to various treatment plans and programs to restore client’s mobility. The essential Physical Education and Exercise Science (PEES) courses taken at Lander University were beneficial to my academic knowledgebase, which prepared me and developed me for the opportunity within the physical therapy discipline. Working as an intern taught me the responsibility of time management and working within a lean schedule that allow me to further develop my skill set. This reflection paper will illustrate my classroom experience, internship experience, and learning experience.
The task of completing the mock interview was very insightful and yet nerve-wracking. This experience allowed me to learn a lot about how others and prospective employers may perceive me. In addition, I also learned a lot about myself. I took some time in advance to plan for the interview. I considered aspects such as when to arrive, what to wear and preparing a resume. This prior planning helped me to have a successful interview.
This past Tuesday, Howard University had their annual Spring Career Fair which was located in Blackburn Ballroom with over 50 different companies. The career fair at Howard is always an exciting time as students eagerly await the opportunity to earn a job either during summer or after the graduation. What made this Career Fair even more
All college students should partake in career exploration project because it gives structure and direction. The result from an assessment identifies and prioritizes which careers will best suit an individual person or student. It does not necessarily mean they have to pick that particular job or career; it gives them more chooses to choose from. As I reflect and look at my career journey, I realize that I have not really had a career journey. I have held a few jobs; however, I have not had a job I would consider my career yet. Furthermore, I only worked for a couple of months in each of the jobs I had in the past. Currently, I do not have a job yet, and I realize that I am now 24 years of age and should be starting my way to my career. However, I have not looked into jobs in my career field because I feel as though I am not ready yet to start working in my field.
My overall experience was significant and exceedingly meaningful. My initial thought as I sat down in the chair was how nervous I was. I was actually sweating this was a good indication that though this was a practice interview it was crucial that I took it seriously and I did. The interview was hard, but it was an exceptional experience because as the interview began I eventually
Education is man’s most valuable possession: it is the concept through which one’s love for learning stems, and the equipment used to pave an individual’s path to success. Although easily influenced by the opinions of others, education is one of the few concepts that neither internal nor external stress can strip from our being. The future of our society lies in the hands of our educators; the values and morals instilled by such figures govern the actions of the earth’s people.
