Career essay on midwifery The word ‘midwife’ means ‘with woman’ ,Midwives are experts in normal pregnancy and birth as they support a pregnant woman and their babies, their role is to prepare women for the delivery of her new born and support them before and during and after child birth and up to 28 days after the baby has been born.. Midwifes now provide services in a variety of settings in women’s homes, community health centres, local clinics, private obstetrician offices, gp surgeries and also in children centres. The specific requirements, skills and grades The academic requirements for the course a minimum are five GCSE at grade c and above (or equivalent) including maths and English. For a standard entry to year one a minimum of 240 UCAS tariff points from two or three A-levels passes, a science A- level preferred. Other qualifications such as science or health based access courses 120 CATS points accepted, also candidates with Scottish qualifications, CertHE, Irish Leaving Certificate, and BTEC National Diploma in a health-related subject but must be recent within the last 5 years plus 5 GCSE Including maths and English.
