The rating that Career Cruiser gave me for this occupation was an A and I agree with that grade. I do really enjoy having the opportunity to help people and I am very interested in learning more about the human body, or being in the medical field at all. Some qualities that I have that are important for a surgeon are; staying clean and organized, interested in learning more new skills that can become useful, helping people with their emotional and physical problems, doing detailed and precise work, providing others with advice or information, and much more. Another important attribute to have that will help with being a surgeon is to have the ability to deal with uncomfortable or gross situation without stressing out or freaking out, which
the majority of people have a problem with but I don't think that I ever have. The only things that concern me about this occupation is the amount of schooling and the costs of schooling it requires, and the working hours and how scattered the schedules can be. But other than that I think that I would have the abilities, skills, and endurance to do well at this job and also have a fun and educational experience.

Most qualified surgeons started off as litter bearer and would carry men off the battlefield. If any of them showed interest in the medical field, they could become a Steward. A Steward's job was to take care of patients with minor wounds such as, scratches, and bumps. The other duties of a Steward were to pull teeth and take care of medicines for the surgeons. The Steward would also guard the medicinal stores, because often soldiers would try to break into the medicinal stores where the morphine, opium, and whisky were stored. If a Steward completed these duties, then he might be allowed to assist a surgeon in an operation, which could lead to becoming an assistant surgeon. He could then later on become an experienced and qualified surgeon.
Higher paid than most jobs annually. The more the experience the more the pay you will receive. This is profession that is going to be increasing in open positions because of the baby booming population. But there are also disadvantages too. My job contains a great deal of direct patient contact, to say the least. I assist the surgeon in whichever surgery the patient needs. I participate in helping cure, stabilize, comfort, and add to the patients' treatment. In order to be a good surgical tech, you must always be one step ahead of the surgeon, which inquires extensive knowledge of human anatomy and the symptoms that accompany an illness. Identifying anatomical landmarks and the normality of organs are also important qualities to have when assisting in surgery.
In society today, it is not uncommon to be surrounded by gangs in our communities. I have recently learned that in my area, we have a local gang known as the Peckerwoods. The Peckerwoods are an Outlaw Motorcycle Club notorious for their hatred towards minorities and earning their income from a variety of illegal practices. In the beginning, when assigned to write about a local gang, I had no idea there were any gangs in my neighborhood so I found this to be intriguing. For this assignment, I was actually able to meet a member of the motorcycle club that allowed me to ask a few questions, and went by the alias “Eddy”. I tried to limit my questions because I did not want to cross any lines. I decided to conduct this interview because he seemed approachable and looked as though he had been involved with the club for a number of years so I decided to take a shot and ask him. He turned out to be a very friendly gentleman, which in my perspective is what these members aim for when creating an image for the public. Below is a summary of my interview conducted with the member:
Oddly enough, I liked giving obese, old patients bed baths, helping them to the bathroom, and cleaning their bed pans. But, don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t exactly what I loved doing, but I knew it was part of the job, and I willingly did the dirty work. By the end of my junior year, I knew I loved the hospital environment and wanted to eventually work there; however, I just didn’t know in what capacity. Fortunately, during a slow day in my last semester of shadowing, a nurse asked me if I would like to see a surgery being performed. I quickly accepted the offer, and I got to watch a surgeon perform an eye lift procedure. This experience, one of the most interesting I had ever witnessed, made me realize the area of the hospital that interested me most, the operating room. More specifically, I wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon. The path to become an orthopedic surgeon is not a quick nor easy one. To become an orthopedic surgeon, one must first be accepted into medical school, graduate medical school, and then complete post medical school requirements such as residency and

It is one I know I will love and will be much more than just a job. It gives ordinary people the opportunity to be a proponent for every patient especially those who may fall through the cracks of the health care system. With that being said, I established important goals to remain on this path for success. By the end of my career I hope to be ultimately satisfied with my choices and following the realistic and clear career goals I have put out with myself, I hope to acquire the characteristics needed to become a successful perioperative nurse and become not only a healthcare provider, but an advocate for my patients and to have the education needed to give them the care and dedication each patient
