Many individuals are unsure of the career they want in life. Even in college students are unsure of their career path. Nevertheless, this is not the case for me. I knew what I wanted to pursue when I was sophomore in high school. I had always sung, but I was unsure that music was a career I wanted to pursue. I wanted to be an anesthesiologist because they made a respectable amount of money. I grew up pondering that money buys happiness. How could I be happy with a career that I do not adore? I decided to pursue a future career as a Choral Music Educator. I have been a member of the Concert Choir at Rock Hill High School since my sophomore year. Everyone at one point has to make a decision on what they want to be when they grow up. For me, that decision came rather unexpectedly and was a result of a new found interest due to self-discovery. It all began when I was around the age of 8 and I watched a documentary on aircraft. It documented all about planes, how they work and the science behind them. I was immediately captivated and gaining all that information as a young child really hit the spot in terms of a new found passion and interest that I could see myself later using. This passion stuck with me ever since as I have spent tons of spare time studying different types of aircraft and collecting model planes. It ultimately helped me with my answer to the question of what I wanted to be when I grew up as being an aeronautical engineer. It is not a career most would pursue, but it shows how self-discovery impacted me at a very young age and the impact is so log lasting that it has influenced most of the decision I make now in terms of courses I take at school and the extracurricular activities I am a part of. ...join so long ago I never really knew I 'd end up here doing what I do. It seems like the common theme for me is seeing something and saying “I can 't do that” then pursuing it until I can. One of my fondest memories is watching someone at the percussion concert play a marimba solo when I was in sixth grade and just looking over at Justin molder and laughing saying “wow I can 't do that” now I do that all the time. I didn 't think I could ever be the leader of a group like this it seemed like too much for me, but now after watching and being in this program and seeing where it could go and what I can do, I want to help take it there. I feel great about next year no matter what happens but I 'm ready to step up, I 'm ready take on whatever I have to to make this year the best year yet. Finding your calling in life can be one of the hardest things to do, for some it is obvious from a young age on what you want to do. For example, my mom has gone on a spree of jobs in her life and she has only recently found something that she actually wants to do. My dad on the other hand knew from a young age what he wanted to do, he liked to tinker and straight after he got out of highschool he knew that he wanted to be a mechanic, and he has stuck with that career path for more than 30 years now. I am currently undecided on what I want to do for the rest of my life, however one of the careers that I am looking at is a law enforcement officer.
The career I am currently pursuing is Dental Hygiene. I chose this career in senior year of high school. My algebra teacher inspired me to choose this career path. I always visited with her after class, because she was my favorite teacher and I learned a great deal from her. One day while visiting her, she spoke about her husband and her two dogs.
Within school, I have participated in Glee Club/Chorus and Drama Club. I have a strong interest and love of both and hope to continue with them in the future. Last year, I had the privilege of being selected for our school's select choir, North Naturals. The Congregation Sons of Israel in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania honored us with the chance to perform at their annual Holocaust Memorial Service. The Messiah College Women's Choir also invited us to perform as a guest in their annual spring concert, in which I performed a solo, along with some members of the Women's Chorus. As we begin to grow up and come to the end of our high school career we must start to begin to start thinking about what type of career we want to be in. It is very important that a person picks the right type of career for them. Otherwise you will be unhappy with what you are doing and will not enjoy it at all. I am not entirely sure what I want my career to be but I have a pretty good idea as to what type of job it will be. I would like to go into the field of a physical therapist and sports medicine, I fell I will enjoy this more than any other type of career just because I already have a lot of interest in it.
How is a person supposed to decide on a career? How would one know if they would be satisfied with that career for the rest of their life? Carefully analyzing different aspects of a career is a great start. Becoming an elementary school teacher or a dental hygienist are two great options for the work industry. I started seriously thinking about what I wanted to do with my life, concerning my career, in the 11th grade. From my junior year until my first semester in college, I was certain my purpose in life was to teach. However, people I spoke with, including some family, friends, and even schoolteachers, repeatedly crushed this choice: "Why would you want to be a teacher? Don't you know how much they make? Why would you want to deal with bratty kids all day? Don't you know teaching is one of the most stressful jobs you can have?" Being the naïve, 17 year old that I was, I listened, and changed my career choice-3 times! I went through 2 years of computer classes to become an administrative assistant, 1 year studying law for paralegalism and 1 ½ years focusing on business management. Throughout those 4 years of unfulfillment, the idea of teaching still lingered in my head. I started asking myself why I decided teaching was not for me. I discovered that even though teaching did carry a few negative aspects, they could never come close to the positive.
Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions a person has to make in their life. It is so important because that is what we will have to do to support ourselves throughout life. Imagine being stuck in a dead end job and having to go to work every morning and dreading it. That is no spending oneÕs time and life is too short to work 35 years and be unhappy with it. If a person likes the job they do then it is not work, because finding satisfaction out of a job can bring great happiness. My mind is made up on what I want to do in life. My mother tells me that I should become a lawyer or an attorney because I debate and arguing my point across, which is true. But I know that’s not something that going to make me happy or a job I’m going to enjoying for the rest of my life. I want a job that’s going to make me happy as well.
