I chose my past career pharmacy technician. A pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in filling prescriptions for the patient. There are many different settings and positions in this career. My favorite is the inpatient hospital setting. The technicians prepare IVs, patient medicine trays, and sometimes packages them in the pharmacy so the nurse is able to scan the medications. Other settings include, retail pharmacy where one would interact with the customers, and the main job is to fill the prescription bottles, and sometimes mix up creams in the compounding lab.
A Pharmacy Technician career caught my interest after high school. My mother was a nurse at the time, and I was trying to figure out what to do with my life. A career in the medical field sounded great to me, and I love to help people. I had to find a suitable position and working in the pharmacy seemed like the type of career that met that requirement. Pharmacy is a great way to be a part of the medical field without having to see blood or change bandages.

Passing judgement is easy for us to do, and certainly should not be practiced in the workplace. When it comes to pharmacy, technicians are exposed to all sorts of issues of health that our society deals with. For example, we have a drug problem in our country, and many people need help coming off of them. Pharmacies often fill prescriptions that recovering addicts use for treatment. Sometimes the patience become irate, or abuse the medicine given to them. Pharmacy Technicians Despite popular belief, pharmacy technicians are more than laborers; they are special. trained individuals to be successful. Imagine a family member is admitted to the University of South Alabama Hospital with an acute case of pneumonia, which will require oral and intravenous medications. These medications must be precisely prepared and properly delivered. The common perception is that pharmacists prepare medications and technicians simply deliver them.
The majority of the duties of a pharmacy technician are to maintain, dispense, count, package, and carefully label medications for patients.
There are a lot of reasons why I chose to pursue pharmacy as my career and they all point to the most important reason: pharmacy is a great fit for my life and is something I have become increasingly passionate about. It started when I was researching careers with my parents and my dad suggested pharmacy and, simply put, it sparked my interest because at the time it was one of the few things I thought I would not hate doing. A healthcare career has always been where I put myself in the future, mainly because most of my family members are in the healthcare field. However, I have never been one that could directly help the wounded or deal with anything gory, but am very intrigued by the growing science of pharmacy. As I continue exploring pharmacy, the more I enjoy learning about it and feel like I could excel in this career.

When doctors prescribe medication for their patients, a local retail pharmacy is most likely to be utilized to fill the order. However, there is a growing population of older Americans that are no longer able to live independently and must reside in nursing homes or assisted living facilities. Ultimately I decided that a career in Pharmacy was perhaps the best way for me to utilize my talents, while at the same time meet my passionate desire to make the world a better place. If I could have any career I would choose pediatric occupational therapy, as it is a wonderful blend of my interests and passions. Physicians and licensed practitioners that write a written prescription, the pharmacist reviews patient history, health conditions, and interactions with the new medication prescribed. As a pharmacy technician (for six years) I had a somewhat of an overview on what they accomplished in a shift but did not know everything on what I know now from this research. Pharmacy students that are in the process to obtain their doctor of pharmacy (D.Pharm.) go through a series of training, education and internship to become a well-rounded pharmacist.
Since I have always shown interest in helping people, this career will be perfect because I can advise patients on medications to better their health. To become a pharmacist, I first need to pass the first two years of my pre-pharmacy work here at STLCOP. This will allow me to advance to the professional classes. Once I am able to pass my 6-year classes, I must take a license exam to obtain my pharmacy license (about.com). Pharmacists have very good job outlooks because they make a high salary with many benefits.
