In today’s modern society, there are a cluster of drivers on the road which leads to
a plethora amount of car accidents. However, most car accidents are caused by old citizens. Every day, seniors die in a car accident because they don't pay close enough attention to the road. Some elderlies don’t want to give up their keys because their car represents freedom but, they are part of the reason why thousands of people are dead. Seniors citizens are considered a risk on the road because there have been an abundance amount of accidents due to these reasons; the loss of eyesight, the ability to react quickly and the new medication that can cause them to be drowsy.

One of the reasons why the elders get in accidents because as they age, their vision starts to slowly fade away. Before seniors even realize that they are struggling more, they are crashing into other cars or places. In addition, “An older person may test well in the eye doctor's office but could still struggle to focus on the road at night” (Source G). Individuals never appear to have enough time to complete tasks that continually accumulate. It can be difficult to criticize someone that tries to make the most out every minute. Unfortunately, some of today’s drivers show a lack of judgment and trying to perform other tasks, while behind the wheel. People may feel this is best use time while getting to a destination. Occasionally, the small amount of time that people are trying to gain results in a time consuming accident. With modern conveniences that are geared toward an on the go public, individuals appear to be too preoccupied to driving safely.

In order for laws to be changed or added for the purpose of safer roads and highways, lawmakers have to first look at what factors contribute to such unsafe conditions. Growing numbers suggest changing the driving age to eighteen and some even believe that changing it to twenty-one may save even more lives.
