Final Project: Capstone Component 1 & 2 Adam See Professor Mark Piva 7/31/2016 Capstone Component 1: Executive Summary Over the past eight years, Andrews has performed fairly decent. Even though there are areas to improve on, the overall growth is outstanding. When the company first started out, our contribution margin was at 24.7% and at the end of the 8th year we are at 54.1%. When compared to rest of the industry it is almost 20% higher than the closest competitor. Every year, we have had a profit no matter what the sales were for the respective year. Currently our stock price is at $22.59/share; we started out at $16.01. Throughout the years, our stock …show more content…
In order for that to happen, all of the strengths would have to remain and even get better. Also, our stock prices would have to rise. We would raise them by gaining more interest within the industry and gaining more customers and investors. To ensure we can afford to grow the company, we would have to be much better at budgeting the use of TQM and not place so much money into each section at one time. Also, we would not be able to retire stock or pay off debts in such a large a bulk. By doing that, we hindered out capital and lessened out net profit by the end of year 8. We would also have to keep selling the inventory on hand using the FIFO (first in first out) method. This will allow us to get the older products out before placing the new products into inventory. Another big thing we would have to do is make sure we get the attention of both low and high market segments. Rather just focus on one segment over the other, if we can develop a product that is suitable for both our company would grow into massive company and a desired company. They’re going to be many chances for us to bring in future investors which will help us grow in the financial aspect. We will have to take into consideration that the other companies within the industry will be doing the same thing. So in order to set ourselves apart from them, we will have to ensure we follow our plan and out …show more content…
I see that at every level (freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior) it not only gets more in depth but also gives greater insight to what is to come. One thing is for certain, what I learned throughout this course will help me in many ways outside of it. At my current job, I will now be able to look at the decision that are made more closely and understand them a little more (purchasing, marketing, etc.). One final aspect that helped me throughout this course was the peer-to-peer collaboration. The feedback I received after posting my debriefs and my PowerPoint helped me finish the final rounds with a little more confidence, even though I did not do all that
...s are doing well and over the many years have gone up. The company has not lawsuits currently pending which is good. The company as a whole seems to be growing even when the market is down.
There are number of strengths that we posses that will help us to capitalise on a competitive market, these strengths include:
The only reason Andrews seems to be doing well in the current round is because one of the major market player, Ferris, went bankrupt. It was easier to acquire a portion of Ferris’s usual sales and customers, and that has made Andrews more secure in terms of its cash position. However, this relatively profitable position will not be easily sustained.
The stock price is currently 103.31, down from a recent high of 121.50. The P/E ratio is declining at 28 and beta at .67, which is expected to grow closer to 1.0. A recent earnings surprise last December yielded a 15% difference from the lower expectations and the latest earnings reports late last month also surprised investors. Estimates for the 2000 fiscal year are being raised by a large majority of analyst who believe that earnings per share will increase and the stock price will reach close to 150.
Football is very popular sport in America with the hard hitting and major tackles. But when those two factors come into play there's always injuries such as concussions. Concussion is when a human has traumatic force hit to the skull in which the brain swells up in the skull leaving no space causing blackouts and even comas. This brings to the question should there be better padding for the football helmet?
With college right around the corner and taking a college course gave a real sense of how college classes are going to work giving me an edge over all of the other students going to college that didn’t take a dual enrollment course. Dual enrollment was honestly one of the best decisions I made in my academic career because like what I was saying this class taught me the inner workings of how most assignment are going to be turned in, what it means to be self-reliant/ on your own have no help with assignment from your parents, experiencing a course that only a handful of assignment rather than a ton of assignment ends up making up over eighty percent of your grade (getting you to work extra hard so you won’t fail) and finally that you have to actually interact with the professor/teacher if you need help or are having trouble with an
Even though my time in SlS has been only for six weeks I think that this course has truly benefited me because I have learn a great deal from all of the different speakers that have stepped into our classroom along from my professor and peer mentor . They each left me with a new perspective on how I should tackle my goals to be successful. I’ve learned that time management is key in order to get task and assignments done in a reasonable amount of time, proper note taking skills, how to work in groups and do presentations, stress management, financial decisions are also keys things that I have learned. Most importantly what I’ve gained out of this class is networking because its not about who you know its about who knows you. This stood out
Coming into this major I had no idea what to expect and the same went for this course, but I did know that it dealt with leadership, something that I have been steeped in for a good part of my life. So with that, it was hard to really set any goals as to what I would want to improve in with my leadership style but I was able to pin point a few aspects that could use some work through learning about different leadership techniques and methods. By learning about how leaders are formed, different approaches to leading groups and various aspects effecting group dynamics, I could determine an individuals or my own strengths in leadership and the methods necessary to effectively lead various types of groups. Also by observing many others in facilitating the after school program it gave me much more of an opportunity to see what works and what does not, this is an opportunity very few leaders get without being thrust into a role that they are ill prepared for.
Therefore, the organization should take a strategic growth-oriented and reverse type combine. On the one hand, the use of outsourcing and vendor competition to reduce costs in order to compensate for management and manufacturing inefficiencies, pay attention to controlling costs; On the other hand, combined with the advantages of their own technology, innovation, branding and marketing and other aspects of the product 's high school three grades are low pile of competitive products, consumer electronics growth to seize the opportunity to obtain efficient growth performance, and further expand market
At the beginning of the semester my outlook on this course was not so good. I was not looking forward to giving speeches or learning things that seemed like common sense, but as time went on I could tell that I was actually taking things away from it. I have learned that I am not so good at coming up with things to say under pressure and I get extremely nervous when I have to talk in front of people that I don’t know well. Oh wait, I already knew those things. This class has motivated me to strengthen my social skills and has also taught me how to effectively work in a team environment through the team communication consultant project. I will show this by analyzing my teams strategic plan, the cohesiveness of the team, and the productivity of the team.
The case looks at prescriptive strategy as applied to multi-product group of companies. Unilever is based in over a hundred countries where multiple products are being made in each. However, the market is mature which means that growth is stagnant and innovation is almost non-existent. In order to improve on growth and sales, the strategies that are needed look at how to come up with new products that have high profit margins and penetrate new markets. The prescriptive approach was used to come with a strategy to improve growth and profit. In order to improve on innovation, both the prescriptive and emergent strategies can be used since both support innovation. From the case study, not much profit was made when the ‘Path to Growth’ strategy was first implemented (2001-2004). The strategy was initially based on cost cutting. There was a need to also build volumes through existing portfolio of branded products through innovation and marketing. By focusing on increasing sales in developing countries where growth prospects were high and increasing investment in personal care products where profit margins were higher, it was possible to improve the profit portfolio.
...ew it in different perspectives. The outcomes were surprisingly insightful and greatly enhance my contribution towards the development of our business plan. It allows me to look back on what has been done and learned from what did or did not work out. In other words, it helped me to see both the positivity as well as the negativity in our ideas and thus stimulate improvements. This assignment also cultivated a sense of team spirit through teamwork and boost creativity through the development of thinking outside the box. Therefore, this assignment has definitely aid my knowledge in developing skills such as writing up comprehensive critical reflection and evaluating the risks of certain business ideas. Aside from that, I have also managed to deal with people from different cultural background through teamwork and develop unique business ideas and market strategies.
The article raises the issue of revenue growth stalls that affect even the most successful companies. The article focuses on four major causes of the crisis. The first cause is the premium-position captivity that is”the inability of a firm to respond effectively to new, low-cost competitive challenge or to a significant shift in customer valuation of product features” (p.54). The second reason is the innovation management breakdown that is”some chronic problem in managing the internal business process for updating existing product and services and creating new one” (p.56). Third reason is the premature core abandonment that means “the failure to fully exploit growth opportunities in the existing core business” and “acquisitions of growth initiatives in areas relatively distant from existing customers, products, and channels”(p.56). Finally, the fourth cause is the talent bench shortfall that is “a lack of leaders and staff with the skills and capabilities required for strategy execution” (p.58). Authors emphasize that these causes are mainly within management control since they result from “a choice about strategy or organizational design” (p.54).
Could this force the company to continuous innovate to prevent the products from entering a mature market? You have to give the customers reason to upgrade. I think that is why Apple has been so successful – by releasing an updated proprietary product every year (iPhone and iPod). This strategy has allowed them to stay ahead of their competitors, forcing the competitors to chase them and also continuously bring new products to the...
Overall, this has been one of my favorite classes in that I can work at my own pace, make my own deadlines (besides the due dates), and communicate with others in ways I had never done before. I am more of a hands on, face to face, confrontation kind of student,
