For years the question has been asked, why do people kill? What makes someone a serial killer? Years of research and investigation has searched to answer all of these questions. One question still remains, what factors influence cannibalism? Why does a switch go off that causes people to revert back to their primitive roots and eat the flesh of another human? How close are all of us to hitting that breaking point?

Experts say a killer's need to dominate his victim may be a motivation. Devouring a victim is the step beyond taking their life and represents the ultimate conquest and sign of domination to a killer. Cannibalism is rooted in both Ancient Rituals and Warrior Battles. The article Serial killers: II. Development, dynamics, and forensics by Lawrence Miller dives in into the many aspects that encompass the psychological, neurological, and sociocultural elements that underline the average serial murderer. It also discusses the validity and rationality of the insanity defense in prosecuting these extraordinarily vicious offenders. Controlling another’s life and death gives the murderer psychological and sexual pleasure. However, they do not kill simply for sexual gratification such as the hedonist lust type; the sexual gratification is an after result of their primary motivation, to control another. This type of murderer will not kill their victim quickly, usually prolonging torture and often uses a personal weapon such as a knife or their own hands. This is done because in enables them to act out their desires to control and dominate another human making their victim subservient to their command all the way to death. (Holmes, R. M., Holmes, S. T., & Park, H. 2007). This type of killer will often rape their victim as well as it is another form of domination. In addition, in childhood they were either bullied or made to feel powerless through abuse, usually carried out by a family member. Furthermore, this type of killer is generally organized, meaning they will control the crime scene, take steps to hide their victim’s body, and rarely leave behind physical evidence such as a murder weapon. The exception to this is that sexual assault is often a component in their crimes and so biological evidence such as semen will usually be left behind. Control killers can be geographically stable, however most are geographically

Serial killing, although not in the same form, has been around since the beginning of time. Unlike today, in ancient times many killed for power, revenge, or a blood lust. For example, during the middle ages, Gilles de Raid, the original “Bluebeard,” and Elizabeth Bathory, the “Blood Countess,” were believed to be werewolves for their heinous acts upon countless victims. Today, it is more commonly used to satisfy a blood lust or to gain control over another person. Vlad the Impaler, a ruthless ruler known as Dracula, killed...

The expression "serial killer" intends to murder three to four victims through a range of days, weeks, months, or even years with a "cooling period" in the middle of (Castle & Hensley, 2002). The homicides are generally detached, and the executioner is a finished outsider to the casualties. The thought process is mental and comprises of mortifying the casualties. By and large, the executioners are sexual degenerates and play out their sexual dreams with their casualties. They originate from broken homes and have a past filled with being ignored or mishandled as kids. This is the motivation behind why they ask on helpless casualties, for example, kids, young ladies, whores, as well as youths (LaBrode, 2007). ...
'Serial murder'; has long been a term used to describe those human beings that repeatedly commit heinous crimes. It is rare that the average person probes the mind of a serial killer without bias. Mass Murderers and Serial Killers are nothing new to today’s society. These vicious killers are all violent, brutal monsters and have an abnormal urge to kill. What gives people these urges to kill? What motivates them to keep killing? Do these killers get satisfaction from killing? Is there a difference between mass murderers and serial killers or are they the same. How do they choose their victims and what are some of their characteristics? These questions and many more are reasons why I was eager to write my paper on mass murderers and serial killers. However, the most interesting and sought after questions are the ones that have always been controversial. One example is; what goes on inside the mind of a killer? In this paper I will try to develop a better understanding of these driven killers and their motives.

However, no human behavior has baffled researchers more than serial murder. Serial killers are dangerous animals that act upon bizarre influences that have fascinated the human race for thousands of years. Many wonder what could cause a person to take the life of another innocent soul. Do internal factors cause them to do it? Is it their environment? What causes a serial killer to kill?
Since the creation of mankind, we have perfected ourselves into killing machines thanks to our well-developed brains. Thanks to advanced DNA research, scientists have found that a number of North American individuals share some common genetics that dates way back in time when their ancestors were cannibals which further proves that some of us have acquired thousands of years of taste buds for human flesh. “Cannibalism often begins as a fantasy […] but when that person gets a taste for real, the pleasure center of the brain becomes activated and large amounts of dopamine are released – similar to what happens when someone ingests a drug like cocaine,” (Karen Hylen, therapist at Summit Malibu Treatment Center). It is only upon establishing religions that “murder” and “cannibalism” was shunned as it taught men differences between men and animals such as the ability to recognize right from wrong by having a conscience. But that did not prevent people from resorting to that extreme in times of need -Jamestown, North America, winter of 1609-
