John Culhane reports that DraftKings employee Ethan Haskell has taken unfair advantage of the information he receives as an employee. As an employee of DraftKings, Haskell is justly forbidden from participating in DraftKings fantasy contests. However, there is nothing stopping him from entering contests in FanDuel, which functions under a system very similar to DraftKings. On September 27th, Haskell revealed that he had insider information, and that he was the “only one with this data.” With this data, Haskell outscored over 220,000 people in a contest that week and brought home $350,000. Culhane reports that many at DraftKings make more money on FanDuel contests than from their own salary. This is absolute corruption. Hundreds of thousands of people are losing their money to people who should not be allowed to participate in the contests. This calls for more regulation and the banning of employees from playing in their competitor’s contests. Many believe that those who work for one of the companies do not have an unfair unadvantage. Rather, they are just very knowledgeable in fantasy football and, after working with the game constantly, know the smartest way to play the game. This logic, however, is wrong. The evidence of Haskell beating out over 220,000 participants cannot be a coincidence. The corruption of FanDuel and DraftKings employees using insider information is one reason why daily fantasy sports need to be regulated; regulation will secure safety and fairness for all

Benjamin Franklin once said, "by failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail." As a sports bettor, this is one cliché I'm particularly accustomed to. Why? It's simple – I appreciate the veracity. Imagine this scenario: you have taken a plane to Las Vegas, Nevada. Looking down from your window seat as you are about to land, you can see the Venetian, Caesars Palace, and other famous casinos you are hoping to visit during your trip. From the airport, you call a taxi and begin to drive towards your destination. As it is for most people, your first stop in Las Vegas is the strip. As you make your way through the tunnel, the area around you becomes a tourist's version of fantasy: multi-colored jumbo screens, long lines of young adults eagerly awaiting the club's opening, street performers, and bright lights that spread throughout the strip, seemingly forever. "Paradise," you think.

Australia is also known for its warm and sunny climate, unique outback, natural and wild beaches, and Australian are sport obsessed. By obsession, gambling is also one of the activities that Australians obsessed with. As Delfabbro and King (2012) have noted in their journal, gambling is always a feature of Australian life way before the British settlement as under form of playing cards, racing, and lotteries, though many other forms had been formed over the years such as electronic gaming machines, gaming tables, and pokers. Gambling is embedded within Australian society as part of their culture as a form of entertainment that attracts tourist and a source of revenue government and private enterprise. Some might say that gambling is not as bad due to the fact that it promotes the growth of the country, both in foreign investment, foreign budget and taxes. they may go further to explain that gambling increases tourism and globalization.
People have always had an interest in wagering on a game to gain monetarily and for self-pride. One of the biggest contributors to the popularity and rise of gambling was horse racing. Lucio Colortuoni argues the whole sports gambling market was initially created out of a passion for horse racing (282). Horse racing is a perfect forum to gambling on, multiple horses to pick from and there is a lot of races. Horse racing started back in the late 1600’s and although the popularity has declined, some races are still broadcasted to this day. It is also hard to fix a race. Match fixing is when somebody, usually the bookmaker (person who takes the bets) pays a player, coach or referee to favor one side in order to make sure the bookmaker wins money. According to David Forrest “Match fixing appears to be as old as organized sports itself” (157). One of the first major fixing scandals happened in the 1919 World Series. Some of the members of the Chicago White Sox’s were accused of, and admitted to fixing the World Series games (Roske, 463). The history of sport gambling has been plagued with scandals like this. But sports gambling has also brought joy to many people throughout the years or else betting would cease to
Canadian hockey is an important component to Canadian identity and way of life and if hockey had a less prominent place in Canadian society, this would change Canadians in many ways. Hockey impacts Canadians at all levels including youth hockey, minor hockey and professional hockey in the NHL. As hockey is one of Canada’s national sports, it demonstrates how valued the sport is in Canada. Hockey to Canadians is not just a sport, but is also a means of community and unity. It is also one of the most widespread sports across Canada and influences Canadians directly through individual or family participation or indirectly by cheering for local or professional NHL teams or by watching Olympic hockey.
To trace the tracks to the start of mending this problem, we need to go
...ayed a strong role in the increase of soccer participation as 1 in every 5 Canadians now is a visible minority and with soccer being the most played sport worldwide many are bringing this sport culture to Canada. Moreover, the hosting of international events has led to an increase in media exposure that has allowed more Canadians to experience professional soccer either on TV or at a stadium. The expansion of the MLS has given Canadians a chance to enjoy soccer at their front door and with European stars making their way to NA the league has been truly put on the map and has increased in popularity and viewership. As a Canadian, one must wonder what will the Canadian sport culture look like in the future. With immigration rising and soccer gaining popularity with the general public will the “beautiful game” as it is known around the world one day be Canada’s game.
Today in America, Gambling can be a matter of life and death; not just to adults, but to their kids as well. Gambling has been growing since day one and it is still going strong today; and not just through casinos but on the internet as well. People usually turn to gambling because they think it is their one way ticket to being rich or earning some extra cash for themselves, but in reality it could be their one way ticket to the bottom. It may be true that gambling helps the economy, but is helping the economy worth someone’s life. With gambling today, people should know that it is not the answer to any of their problems; it was never the answer to their problems back when it first started in America in the 1600’s, though it may be the answer for the economy now with all of its problems or natural disasters, but it certainly is not the answer to go online and gamble.
One of the largest growing sports across North America, from southern California to the outskirts of Nova Scotia, is the game of hockey. With its’ exhilarating speed and action, hockey is rapidly increasing it’s attention to an already global market. Despite rise in popularity in recent years, long existing bias and stereotypes have prevented potential fans from obtaining an appreciation for the game. In reality, hockey is a team sport than can and has been enjoyed by many for roughly 200 years. Issues such as lack of diversity and low-income players are gradually changing, making the game more accessible. Furthermore, hockey is steadily obtaining relevancy across several continents, ensuring the prestige of the game is maintained for many years to come.
Canada has been receiving a great deal of media attention with respect to its flourishing economy and of its performance even under recessionary conditions. Future prospects for growth have been highlighted with business opportunities expanding as a result of this growth. There has never been a better time for those contemplating emigration to Canada as employment and business prospects continue to develop. Further boosting Canada's economic performance, now and into the foreseeable future, has been the successful tender for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, which is projected to generate large direct and indirect revenue streams and economic development for Canada as a whole and British Columbia in particular. The presence of the Games will
My time spent as a Graduate Assistant Volleyball Coach at St. Catherine University provided me with many opportunities to learn and grow as a coach. I have been challenged in ways I could not have imagined. One experience has inspired me to research more into the development of athlete’s self-efficacy. Since I began as an assistant coach, I have believed in these athletes and want to help them believe in themselves, too. The way the defined their success was strongly based on if they achieved the result they wanted, no matter the effort they put into the task.

There is a major issue to be dealt with, which is spreading with little regulatory oversight and no effective screens against participation by the young and the vulnerable. Internet gambling represents one of the fastest growing segments of online activity with more than seven hundred web sites now providing users the opportunity to wager everything from casino games to sporting events. According to internet research firms, the industry will pull in $1.5 billion in world-wide revenues this year. That figure is expected to hit at least $6 billion by 2006. Also, a survey conducted by the Pew Internet and American Life Project concluded that $4.5 million Americans have gambled online and that 1 million gamble online everyday.
