Canadian Martyrs Catholic Elementary School is situated in West Hamilton. The school was built in 1931, and carried out renovations in 1965, 1972, and 2003 (Canadian Martyrs Catholic Elementary School, 2015). It is located adjacent to Canadian Martyrs Church, and carries an optimistic relationship with the Pastor. The Canadian Martyrs hold a significant place in the lives of the school community; the school celebrates the feast day of the Canadian Martyrs’ on October 19th in a variety of ways over the years (Canadian Martyrs Catholic Elementary School, 2015). Individuals feast days of each of the eight Martyrs are recognized throughout the school year (Canadian Martyrs Catholic Elementary School, 2015). The Canadians Martyrs Catholic Elementary School’s motto is “Courage to do the right thing”, reflects actions of the Martyrs (Canadian Martyrs Catholic Elementary School, 2015).
The Canadian Martyrs Catholic Elementary School carries an appearance similar to those it surrounds, more specifically McMaster University. McMaster University consists of buildings that carry a neo-gothic appearance with chic but very small details on its exterior. Their dedicated staff and numerous volunteer and mentors from St. Mary Catholic Secondary School, McMaster University, and Mohawk College add to the enjoyment environment students experience and also add to the development of spirituality, communally, physically and academically (Canadian Martyrs Catholic Elementary School, 2015).
