Games Played Together Can Be Better. In my opinion I think games should be played with friends or friends online, but most games they dont require us to play with people but I believe its better. People often play games with friends because it make it feel likes its a challenge, they get to meet new people, and they get a physical feel of somebody being in front or beside them. First when playing games with friends it makes it more of a challenge, because we get the feel of their energy when they are beside us. If we are playing somebody online we get to talk to them through a mic and we can still feel their energy if they mad,sad or frustrated because of their tone. For example I like to play cards and I usually play with my friends and when they are winning they have a tone in their voice and they will say “oh yeah i'm about to win” and those words influenced me to think smart and beat them and it will feel like a real challenge between us. …show more content…
If your the type of person like myself that is antisocial and not really good at making friends than playing games online with random people is a good idea ,because we can get the feel on how to make friends in the real world. Even when we are playing new friends online can be a good thing if we don't want to play our real life friends because they get mad if we beat them or if we mess up when playing a game ,and then they blame us and not talk to us if it's somebody radom online they can just quite and never play with us
Some even actively engage using speech as well. Video games are now so completely realistic, that it is hard to tell whether you are witnessing live actions or actually participating in them - the fine line between reality and fantasy has become completely indistinguishable. Countless studies have shown that participating and witnessing this behavior in games corresponds to more aggressive behavior in life and a lack of empathy for the actual suffering of humanity. Participating in video game play may seem real, but like the cave prisoners, this interaction is nothing but an illusion. Video game play is precisely graphic trickery and as Plato writes it “was all a cheat and an illusion.” (paragraph 15)
In pages 20-24 of Reality Is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World, I agree that there are many different video games. For me, I am a fan of single-player games with story modes because I can play by myself and go at a pace that suits me. However, I enjoy playing online multiplayer when I have friends I can play with because it is fun interacting with friends and doing stuff together. I play on a console or my computer, but I have played on my phone and a hand-held device. I have not played a board game or card game in a while, but I would play it if the opportunity presents itself. The video games genres I play are sports, action, and adventure. I agree with Jane McGonigal that video games share four defining traits,
How does playing games affect the mind? Well in general there is so much to talk about games. From the History of games, to the vast variety of games in America! I mean think about it, you have to have played at least some sort of game, but first I need to not get ahead of myself and first get your more informed on the history of gamin in America! How did games come to America? Good question let us start off from the roots, before games even came to America. Dating back at least 2300 B.C Greeks, Japanese, Chinese and even Romans were know to be playing risk games for amusement. Let us review the sort of games these countries played. Greeks and Romans, they both had some sort of coliseum were they pit people against each other to fight to the death. Just like a sport, like present day MMA, Wrestling, Boxing, Karate, Taekwondo, Muay Thai, Aikido, and other physical combat sports. So as you can see games were definitely involved in Greek and Roman culture. Let us move on, what about China and Japan. The ancient Chinese game of “GO” is a strategy game much more in common with Chinese checkers then it is with chess! Yes the earliest report’s of Chinese playing this game is 548 B.C! As you can see games have been involved in Chinese culture! Okay now let us talk about Japanese games! Sumo wrestling dates back to 250-552 A.D. Almost 2000 years ago, obviously Japanese have been playing games for awhile! All these games that we have talked about, Go, Sumo Wrestling, Physical combat sports all are ancient games played by people so long ago so there has to be a reason why they play these games! Well get to that later were still on the history of gaming, so calm down. Let us move on to how gaming came to America! Okay so we know the roots...
Video games have been an activity for people to come together and do something they enjoy. It similar to when people come together to watch football, they bond over the game and their favorite teams, the same goes for when people are playing video games. Video games have now become a social event and people are starting to play in groups and pairs. Henry Jenkins stated that “sixty of frequent gamers plays with friends, thirty five percent play with sibling, and twenty five percent play with spouse and parents “(Jenkins, 451).Video games have become a middle ground for people to come together and enjoy each others company. In our society today video games have brought people together through the internet. Gaming community has developed on chat sites,YouTube, and even Facebook. People are not limited to the place they live, they can meet and connect to people all around the world. One of my friend 's older brother is really into video games and usually plays with people all over the world. By making those connections with people through video games he made a new friend , and went to visit him in London last year. This demonstrates that people use video games to gain friendship and be more social. Video games can help us to to build relationship with people that we might not have developed if not for common interest of games. Video games does a very effective job of bring people together that have the same interest, and giving them a sense of
Video games have positive and negative aspects. Acording to a study, those who spend hours and hours in playing ‘civic games’ were found to take more part in different community services like social work, politics or protests, as compared to those who never took interest in vidoe games. Hence video games are proved to increase one’s social interaction skills. The kind of friendship and ethics that are learnt by the young gamers while playing video games provide evidence that they are not completely harmful to our society. (Heins, 62)
Our engagements at work, school, and sports seem to take precedence over quality family time. In what little free time we have, we just sit alone in separate rooms, staring at our individual screens. Playing board games is one of the few times that we all sit down together as a family and just enjoy each others’ company.
Video games are games that allows interaction with one user playing against the system or two or more players against each other on a video screen such as a TV or computer monitor. Video games are good ways to understand and master skills in the game. When comparing Madden and 2k, the two games are very similar in a way such as, they are both a physical sport. They are both controlled by a person behind an analog stick. The games have some of the similar controls. The games are very effective in our youth lives. This effect could be a good and a bad thing, because the game could keep the youth in the house and out of trouble, or it could cause damage in the long run because of the youth being in front of a Television for a long time.
Although video game interaction is boundless, gaming can't be referred to as the new way of socializing because it revolves around on the game itself. In the video game community, a player is assumed to have a neutral identity. Even though social interactions are present in MMORPG's, these interactions are not about the individual's traits, emotions, memories, or other personal characteristics; it is all about the game and the environment that surrounds it.
Research has shown that gaming, in the right context, can be just as, if not more, effective than traditional e-learning. It improves problem-solving, creativity, risk assessment, and risk taking. Gaming also supports B.F. Skinner’s Behavioral Theory: that behavior is a function of its consequences. As in real life, when most people have a negative consequence to something they do, they don’t do it again. In gaming it’s the same concept: You go through that particular door and fall down an elevator shaft and lose the game…are you going to do that again? Probably not.
First video games are not harmful to the public quite the contrary actually. Many video games encourage social behavior and team work whether that is the two player cooperative shooter game that two brothers play together working as a team inspiring positive feelings overriding the negative ones as stated in the study coauthored by David Ewoldsen. Or a family on game night all playing a game together and having a great time and bonding together because of the experience. And many games today don’t stop there at just play together and have fun. Many games promote teamwork skills through puzzles which can be solved together, or enemies that the players must work together to defeat. These positive social effects are not limited to one’s family but extend into online play, where one can converse and enjoy his time with others, creating entire
Through games we are learning how to master motivation and engagement. Games have the amazing ability to keep people engaged for a long time, build relationships and trust between people, and develop their creative potentials.
Many people believe that video games change people and mislead them to do bad things, such as drugs and alcohol, but it is the opposite. Gaming prevents people from such acts and actually helps to keep them away from the substances. Lots of people, mainly parents, believe that video games harm people so they try to keep their children away from them. In reality, video games make your life better. Video games can provide many benefits to your lifestyle as “numerous academic studies indicate that playing video games has many psychological and even physical benefits” (Guarini). Gaming helps stimulate the brain and advances your problem solving abilities. There are disadvantages to gaming, which is true, but the amount of benefits outweigh them by far.
Yet many people are concerned how this impacts there social skills the everyday face to face contact. When playing video games people limit their self’s to social interaction unless it has to do with the game, a lot of people play online and talk to their friends through a headset. When people have face to face contact they develop skills in learning how to communicate with people and eye to eye contact you don’t get that through a video game. Being in a social environment promotes social skills. A social environment can provide opportunities for one to learn how to behave properly in different situations. When playing video games most of the time the person is alone and confined in room. Meaning there is very little social interaction between the person and the game. When people play video games they play in sessions and they can last a long time even all night. People get so wrapped up in playing these games they blow off their friends and family meaning it’s hard to maintain social relationships.
-In this form of communication, personal relationship is always easy to establish since an assurance of physical actions like facial expressions are portrayed to gather trust as compared to Virtual communication which doesn’t exhibit physical actions.
The advantage of playing online games is that it allows people to communicate with numerous numbers of others from different cultural backgrounds and countries. In the game, a gamer may want to exchange his item with someone else. Therefore, he/she has to negotiate with others. Repetition of this negotiation can develop a gamer’s social skills. The disadvantage of online gaming is that spending most of your free time in front of a monitor will remove teenagers from their friends and society.
